This temple is one of my favorites. Many memories getting lost and confused. The music takes me back in time. Watching blind playthroughs like this makes me feel like im reliving the experience through another. Loving this series, Mapo. I hope you continue with other Zelda titles.
What’s cool is the boss arena is actually 2 different rooms. 1 tiny and 1 giant with the boss’s position doubled in both. This being the reason it’s limited to this one place. So even with cheats to use the giant mask anywhere the game will lock or crash because the mask is programming smoke and mirrors rather than actually making Link giant.
It is, however, only the process of putting the mask on that causes the game to hang. By using cheats to get out of the animation you can observe how the illusion is achieved (the altered camera behavior and footstep sound effect). In addition you can see the Happy Mask Salesman's response to showing him the Giant's Mask.
Remember that Stone mask he called a useless "nothing" mask well it sure is helpful in that reflection room in keeping those respawning Boe's off your back while you're trying to work.

this temple is definitely my favorite in Zelda. it's a good challenge, but still perfectly doable. the mechanic of the whole temple flipping upside down is super cool. it's got some fun minibosses, and the trippy alternate music for the flipped version is the cherry on top also, when the temple is flipped it's really cool and a little terrifying to see just the empty sky below you. when i play though it, the idea of falling into the sky forever is always subtly gnawing at me and creeps me out. but in a weird way i love it because of that haha
Yeah. Especially when considering the thing he kept mentioning that he wanted to do but never got around to doing throughout this episode. He’ll be able to look at but will not be able to touch the reward for completing that particular side quest unless he completes a particular spider house first. But as long as he completes the Bomber’s Notebook / collects all the masks I am completely fine with whatever route he takes. To me, he can miss heart pieces and some of the other upgrades, but the game is incomplete unless you collect all the masks and help solve everyone’s problems.
I somehow binged all your Zelda vids and was devastated when I saw that you hadn't completed this one yet and I would have to wait 😢😂. So here I am. Thanks for posting! 😊

The thumbnail for this episode is perfect 😂 with the bunny ears it perfectly captures how weird this game is. Great job with the mirror room where the small black balls spawn in. Makes me lose my mind still, but you got the timing right immediately. Never knew that the hand in the flooded room threw you up, I always had Zora link do a dolphin jump on top of the walkway and it's a pain to pull off 😅
Big congrats on knocking out the temple and Strays all in one go. The first time I played MM in 2000 I barely made it through Stone Tower, let alone getting all the fairies! I never knew what the reward was until a few years ago when I replayed the game. I'm a lil sad this game will be over soon, but it's been great watching you. See you next episode!
The 3DS version of this boss fight was very interesting 😆, worth checking out for the hecc of it. Also my favorite dungeon in this game, each room is so well thought-out!
The N64 version allows a lot more fucking around in boss fights and playing it the way you want to without gimmicks, and exploration is shockingly better. Every change 3DS made that wasn’t QoL made the experience worse
When they say forgive your friend theire actually talking about Navi, a big theme in this game is forgiving Navi for leaving you at the end of oot (you were looking for her at the start of the game)
1:34:18 WELL DONE! Whenever I fought Twinmold, I ALWAYS picked up a bottle of Chateau Romani beforehand. The fact that you did this in one go, without even picking up a potion from the broken stone monoliths is crazy!
The boss fight here is actually pretty drastically different in the 3DS version You kill the blue one using light arrows, and that is what gives you the mask, and then when you grow giant you use your fists, hurl boulders, and suplex the red one
All the boss fights in the 3DS version are different because of some weird obsession on the part of the remake devs to add eyes you have to hit to every boss. Frankly I think it made all of them worse.
@Tustin2121 the boss fights felt significantly worse in the remake. Between that and the altering of how the Zora swimming went I was kinda disappointed. I felt like the game in general was dumbed down to appeal to people too impatient to actually play the game how it was originally
@@Tustin2121 I found gyorg and this boss more fun in the remake, goht didnt really feel any different to me, I can see how people find the first one worse though
@@kevinc62 eh, other than the first one I disagree. Like, yea the target is overly visualized, but as far as the mechanics of the fights I dont think theyre much less open ended. Goht is still “ram into it as a goron continuously”, this boss is still “turn giant and wail on them” except done in a way that makes the giant mask different from just swinging your sword like normal. Like I said I like gyorg more just because halfway through youre forced to fight entirely in the water, but before that its not any different other than “when it flops over now it has an eye”. The first boss does suffer though just from how much it overly shows the way youre designed to beat it, and it feels like they summon way less stuff to
The fight as giant Link is VERY different in the 3DS version. Instead of his sword and shield, Link uses his bare fists to attack and you can even use wrestling moves on Twinmold for extra damage. I love that in concept, but actually landing your hits is WAY harder in the 3DS version. It's actually pretty frustrating.
You can hold down the button assigned to the bow and arrow to knock an arrow without firing it. Seeing where the arrow is pointing makes it a lot easier to aim. The game actually tells you this when you obtain them. Items like the hookshot, boomerang/Zora fin attack, and slingshot from OoT can also be prepped without firing by holding down the buttons.

Stone Tower Temple's theme is iconic to me. It's a comforting melody, despite its musical complexity. I know the development cycle for MM was very small, but I think Stone Tower suffered the most from the time crunch. I feel like maybe two more months of development time, and the Deku Mask elegy statue could have been better utilized. Perhaps a smaller pressure switch somewhere else in the temple could have been held down by the smallest statue, but that opens up a whole other half of the dungeon, just by that one hidden switch. Just my thought, though..
The stone mask would've so helpful here instead of having to dodge all those Death Armos and "gun powder rip-off gorons", but I'm just impressed he didn't panic and get himself killed. 👍👍👍
2:13 Oh just you wait. It'll be *fun*. 6:15 Ah... using random crates to solve a switch puzzle strikes again. I winced XD 24:30 You figured it out eventually, but I was surprised the first time you were testing the mirror you didn't realize it was holding a charge. 51:58 And here comes the fun part! And by fun, I mean single-handedly *the most* vertigo-inducing thing I have ever played, falling into the sky are real nightmares that I have had, and inverting the temple is cool but this is so, so awful. 1:01:56 I just realized this but I think the reason you're struggling flying with Deku Link is because you're holding down the Z button, which is causing you to Strafe rather than fly naturally. I noticed the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, which only show up when holding down Z. The Z button can change where the camera is looking, but don't forget that it affects how you move too. 1:11:00 ... I'm so mad I played this on a TV with weak stereo so I never noticed the audio cue indicates his location. Would have made this fight a lot easier for young me. XD 1:34:17 Good job one-cycling Twinmold! Sometimes bad luck means running out of magic and having to either find pots to regain magic or continuing the fight as a smol. It's a shame the devs ran out of time to solve the programming issues with the Giant's Mask, because it would've been fun being able to turn into a giant anywhere you wanted without crashing the game. 1:41:01 Honestly, coolest looking sword in the whole series.
fun fact , the 3ds made elegy more bearable as it skip the whole animation after the first time. you can also play the songs while the music list is open. sometimes its easy to forget the QOL the 3ds version bringed since it did so much wrong too..
I just want to say... I've never gotten to the stone tower in any playthrough of Majora's mask. but i clocked the mirror charging up with teh light... because that's what the mirror sheild did with energies in oot.
iirc the Great Fairy Sword is twice as powerful as the Gilded Sword. I believe each sword upgrade is 2x stronger than the previous. Kokiri Sword 1x Razor Sword 2x Gilded Sword 4x Great Fairy Sword 8x
In the 3DS you use fists, yep your freaking FISTS to beat the boss when giant, i hated it so bad, its much harder for reach and range, it utterly sucked😢
I've always found the room around 00:33 really annoying without the stone mask, but you seemed to have no problems. This is my favorite dungeon btw. Except hunting the stray fairies is a bit annoying. And I have to thank you for playing my favorite game and being so thorough with it. I've even seen some completely new things for myself on this playthrough. The ending will be epic!
Dunno how everyone enjoys this crapshoot of a dungeon so much, I'd rather switch my boots in the OoT water temple a billion times than play the song enough times to finish this dungeon once. Great Bay is without a shadow of a doubt the best dungeon in this game hands down. Stone tower has a great concept, the idea of stone tower is very nice, but the reality is unbelievably bad and annoying. It does have one of the best themes, though.
You only need to play the song about 4 times inside the temple itself, so it's not that bad But if you count the climb to the temple than yes that part is quite boring
Fun Fact: The game designers actually DID want the player to have the ability to use the Giant's Mask ANYWHERE within the game, but they were having technical issues figuring out how to do so and with having ONLY a 1 year development time (most games at the time were given 2 to 4 years development time) to make Majora's Mask, they didn't have enough time to crack the code. Because of this, they were forced to restrict the Giant's Mask ONLY to work within the Twinmold Boss Room because that's the only place they were able to figure out how to get it to work, while using it anywhere else would glitch out and crash the game. The 1 year development time was said to have been a nightmare for the game designers, which resulted in several ideas either being scrapped and/or replaced. It's also one of the main reasons as to why Majora's Mask has the time limit to begin with: because the game designers themselves were on a serious time crunch to meet their deadline and they wanted the game to mirror that sense of dread and urgency they were experiencing during development. In fact, the game was also originally supposed to have a 7 day cycle, but it was cut down to 3 days simply because again, they didn't have enough time to create more content to fill in for a 7 day cycle.
@@udgeyjudge4289- Was about to say this too. The modders apparently had to completely reprogram how the mask worked from the ground up in order for it to function anywhere.
When I was young and replayed Majora's Mask, I always connected doing Stone Tower with Kafei's Quest, so I had the Chateau Romani in the fight with Twinmold, which gives you unlimited magic for the rest of the cycle.

1:32:19 well this was certainly a "big" surprise :D
The ledge zora link can't climb IIRC you can dolphin dive and jump onto it, though it's tricky.
I just want to say... I've never gotten to the stone tower in any playthrough of Majora's mask. but i clocked the mirror charging up with teh light...
because that's what the mirror sheild did with energies in oot.
Now that he's close to the end of the game (kinda, still a lot of masks to get), I wonder if he'll do the other 3D Zelda games.
looking forward to him getting all the masks now :) I hope you manage it mapo! its not nearly as bad as the skulltulas or heart pieces
It's crazy how easy the boss is with the Giant's Mask. Kind of wish it was a bit more challenging, or at least as challenging as the midboss.
@@Lexyvil calling Gomess or Garo Master challenging in any capacity has to be a meme lol. They're both just as easy as Twinmold
iirc the Great Fairy Sword is twice as powerful as the Gilded Sword. I believe each sword upgrade is 2x stronger than the previous.
Kokiri Sword 1x
Razor Sword 2x
Gilded Sword 4x
Great Fairy Sword 8x

Good one... 👍
Because Majora's Mask is more of an effort than the simpler Ocarina of Time, I do still enjoy MMs temples, but they are a fair slog sometimes.
In the 3DS you use fists, yep your freaking FISTS to beat the boss when giant, i hated it so bad, its much harder for reach and range, it utterly sucked😢
Two molds
Hey Mapo, I think a fun video idea would be for you to react to an OOT or MM speedrun/ randomizer. I know I would love to see that!
you dont have to defeat all four of them all in the same cycle it would be a needless waste of your time
Please don't do a Boss Rush. It's not necessary. Unless you really want to of course.
1:31:47 wow I never realized that Shadow of the Colossus boss was a reference to Zelda.
37:58 “Scrubs on the lava floor we are, some times it blows my mind”
I've always found the room around 00:33 really annoying without the stone mask, but you seemed to have no problems. This is my favorite dungeon btw. Except hunting the stray fairies is a bit annoying.
And I have to thank you for playing my favorite game and being so thorough with it. I've even seen some completely new things for myself on this playthrough. The ending will be epic!
1:26:33 you can also use the water to propulse yourself upwards and reach above the surface
You're insane.

@@Xeno_Solarus and you're out of your mind if you think this is the best dungeon in all of zelda. Totk fire temple is more enjoyable.
@@BusinessSkrub They are both quite cool, yeah.
You only need to play the song about 4 times inside the temple itself, so it's not that bad
But if you count the climb to the temple than yes that part is quite boring
And everything you listed (excluding maybe the thing about the Giant's Mask) has made the game better.
Imagine if they remade MM with all these original ideas included, a properly fleshed out 7 day cycle would be crazy.
@@stefanosg1432 I find the idea of a remake throwing in bonus content for "before The First Day" to be pretty amusing.
and fun fact: mods (often used in randomisers) have put the universal Giant's Mask functionality back in! it's quite wonky but it works
@@udgeyjudge4289- Was about to say this too. The modders apparently had to completely reprogram how the mask worked from the ground up in order for it to function anywhere.
"I'm gonna go back to Clock Town because I'm gonna try to stop the bomb bag theft..." sksksksksk
When I was young and replayed Majora's Mask, I always connected doing Stone Tower with Kafei's Quest, so I had the Chateau Romani in the fight with Twinmold, which gives you unlimited magic for the rest of the cycle.
Playing through the second best Zelda, might as well play the best next and do a Link to the past playthrough
Stone tower is a cool place, I wanna know more about it's history. Love the song too 😊
