Beautifully and simply presented with clearly defined spaces for different purposes. Accidental or not, a great idea for future adjustment to changing family needs is the placement of the kitchen at right angles to the predominant line of the house corridor. With minimum structural modifications it could be possible to place a corridor-wide door just beyond the stair to close the kitchen off from the front rooms , and another sliding wall on the living room side of the kitchen island that would close the kitchen off from the rear living spaces. This “adjustable at will” isolation of spaces to separate , often quite different functions has become an issue highlighted by the realities of family isolation because of COVID. Also internal pollution of noise, airborne particles of fat, volatile chemicals, lingering smells etc from the kitchens will become a health and lifestyle issue that open plan kitchens currently produce but that are not considered seriously by architects, developers , designers nor occupants. This house redesign has presented a model that should be a consideration for all those planning a renovation or a new build.
My house looks eerily similar to this. With two important and horrible exceptions. I have dark timber floors instead of polished concrete, and a wood balcony instead of those grill grates. This house would be infinitely easier to clean. Genius
