Capt Dan, I am enjoying your video and commentary, certainly your humor. I will do the PCT in 2016. I am hanging on each and everyone of your video and sulk when you miss a day. . . An FYI (I am from California) or two is the Feather River System is principal to a Aqueduct and pumping stations that began in the 60s and feeds the canal/aqueduct that i believe winds south and branches in Tehachapi west to the LA basin and East terminating at Lake Perris west of San Gorgonio Peak. So you transitioned it near Hiker Town and hiked north out of Hiker Town. The "Bamboo" is a fern called Horsetail Fern. Keep the posts coming. . .
Oddly enough, Beldon Resort gets 4.5 stars on a Google Map review link. Still, it looks better than Panamint Springs "Resort" in Death Valley NP - a place I visit yearly.
Whoever is the bartender in the downstairs bar is the do - everything person (bartender, waiter, busboy, store clerk and checks in guests as the hotel front desk person)... the evening guy and the morning guy were both great. It's just that the promised (and paid for) amenities were not what was advertised.
ncognit02 the reviews on yelp and other sites are terrible, and the photos of the place look not so good BUT- for people who go to festivals there- mostly rave type electronic music parties, one of my buddies was there must have been a week or so after you for one.. those people love it, and it is a really excellent place for that sort of thing, rooms dont matter much then. Looked pretty bad to me and their site says free wifi, while you got none.. It's a great place, but run down accommodations is what im gathering. Thanks for giving us a look at it
The resort's bread-n-butter are the summer musical festivals it hosts. I don't know if that crowd of people care about Yelp reviews, they're just there for the music and to party. It's not a tourist destination. Not having wifi was a bummer, and no TV sucked as well. It was only for one night, I got my resupply package the next morning and moved on.
FYI my Verizon phone & data works and there is direct TV in our cabin that works. Maybe the difference in cabin vs. room. The food is awesome and service is very good.
Verizon is the best carrier all along the PCT. I think my issue was the cable didn't work that night, or maybe the little TV was crap. Loved the food and the staff. I'd like to see the place when it's rocking with a music festival.
Also called equisetum (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equisetum_hyemale). Not related to bamboo. Often considered an invasive weed. Great videos Dan, you are an inspiration to us all!
Belden Resort looks SO sweet. A real destination. I wonder if the inability to retrieve your resupply generates a good deal of resort income? Maybe they have it down to a science? You handled it far better than would have I. Kudos to your calm....
The Belden post office closed a few years ago and the resort doesn't accept PCT packages, so you're only recourse here is to have your resupply box sent to the the local trail angels- the Braatens, who live a couple miles down the road. They just happen to be not in when I arrived so me and the other hikers had to wait a day to pick up our packages before moving on. The main function of the resort appears to be the various music festivals they host throughout the year.
OooOoo love those berries. Funny you should say it brings back memories of your childhood. Here too - my grandfather used to grow them alongside a dirt road in the back half of his property...just set up a few trellises and planted a bunch. I remember picking them for him and eating probably half of the harvest. lol Great video once again. Oh - in my planning for my thru hike in 2019, I was considering taking a zero day at Belden. Is it worth it in your opinion or should I just keep on keepin on?
Thanks Capt Dan. I also will attempt the PCT in 2016. Your videos are a significant part of my preparation. Love your impressions of the "amenities".
+Six P Thanks! And good luck in 2016. You'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the info Rick and good luck with the preparation for your hike. The number one thing I can tell you about this is that it's hard.

Interesting. Thanks!
