Of all the King Air vids out there, your 3to this resort are the BEST as you narrate your procedures. Would hope you repeat them to a warmer location. Thanks for the vids.
Fantastic series on this trip! Your narrative, detail and explanations are wonderful. I've always wanted to log some time in a King Air and this is the closest I've ever gotten, I could practically smell the Jet-A. I grounded myself a few years ago (minor medical issue and finances) but am about ready to hit the airways again... you made me parched with thirst with these three posts... I don't know how to thank you! In Peace ~ Marc
On the far right are the L&R "condition" levers. there are 3 positions, a) fuel cut off, b) low idle (sometimes called ground idle; and c) high idle (sometimes called flight idle). The middle set of levers are the L&R propeller controls; they control RPM. The left set of levers are the L&R Power and "Beta" controls. None of these levers are connected to the engine. they control inputs to the FADEC(s), full authority digital engine controls for each engine. reverse thrust is beta.
Absolutely LOVE the sound of a Turboprop startup, but as an ATC i still think our job is the best in the world. In Australia at least, telling pilots what to do for near on $200,000 a year is ACE!
@TheErikFasterling from the time you start the engine, (hitting the ignition) to low idle, it is when the turbine percent is ~15 %. It depends on the aircraft. You only need high idle on engine 1 (or the first one you started) to start the 2nd engine. THen it's basically choice in the king air, if you want high or low idle, high idle, you get a bit of a faster response from the engine.
Very impressive and informative, thanks for the video! It's obvious you put some time into this and it was worth it. Trying to work my way up to a King Air.
At least Kingair with PT6A start up goes (simplified):1-Starter on2-Confirm ignition from annunciator light3-Condition lever from cur-off to low idle after N1 rpm has passed 12% (from N1 gauge)4-Confirm fuel flow and oil pressure from gauges 5-Follow ITT needle and confirm peak value within acceptable limits6-Starter off after N1 has passed 50% (self-sustaining burn)7-Generator on Parts 1-6 should take under 30sec
Of course that is not the starting salary, but after about 8 years. A controller with a OJTI(training) qualification can make over 250k with over time. The level one is 90k going up each year by around 20k. overtime is paid on top of that. Its actually one of the big differences between the US and here, for some reason our controllers are paid alot more. Of course wages in general are higher here as well.
I love these cockpit videos, i was lucky to download this one first its really great. The uploaded version seems to be cut down by a lot. Google it, you can find a torrent for the whole video. This is very interesting stuff, i love the king air 350 and this guy seems nice too. And yeah, how about having your office at 25.000 feet flying over those mountains on a sunny day :) Ive flown this route a few times on FSX, got the proper charts and all.
There's one huge reason why you would not want the prop sync on while on the ground. The most obvious one is that no one is going to mind that there's prop beat on the ground (which is the main reason why we have prop sync on these birds), because your at a fairly low power setting, and as you can see in the video, he's staggering the power levers while taxiing, so it's not going to do him much good anyways in the area of passenger comfort.
nice video...you appear a good pilot. Only one question: prop sync seem like was active when you was at the ground. The correct procedure isn't right to make it active only when in flight?
@Mcoov He requested to taxi to the Denver Jet Center. Practically every jet aircraft goes there, so she gets that request dozens of times per day. Just trying to add a little humor.
Excellent video! One engine instrument, #1 eng. above the "Prop" gauge, seemed to really "lag #2", that is until after take-off and power was reduced a bit. It then "aligned" with #2. Seemed only low on low power settings. Just curious as to what system that was. Obviously, not a problem as the run-up, take-off, were conducted normally. Thanks.
@Avantime I think it is resetting itself, because of the high altitude. I don't know. Never seen it happen on the Beech 1900 (which is a lot like the King air). Or any of the Cessna's I've flown.
went flying on saturday... and i saw one of these (king air) though not this model...... dont ask me which one, i think it was a C90A ...... but dammm..... i was more envious than a 30 year old virgin....
@BIMMERKID2 what?!? when I did my multi crew coordination on kingair 350 simulator, prop sync was alway off until cruise, as checklist say. What is the use of prop sync on the ground???
Most procedures actually take you through the procedures. The video however does little to show the steps required, nor does it take you through the checklist. Just saying
What do the main three pairs of levers do that are on the center console shown at 3:20 ? Can somebody tell me what they are called, what they would control and how would you use them during start, taxi, take off, climb, cruise, descend, landing, reverse, backing up...?
tobber08 If you were to be at the beginning of a take off, what would you do with the levers to make the airplane throttle up and take off? Is there a gauge/instrument that shows the pitch of the propellers?
Hi, excellent video, Im from Colombia, and Im a pilot to, and I like much the private aviation, I want to ask you if it has a vacancy for me to be employed at your air company, please help me, tanks....................
CAn someone tell me a little about how the throttles work on a turboprop? Looks like fuel control on the right, prop pitch in the middle, what's on the left? are the left controls like a combination of the two or something?
Are these still master/slave systems? My 350 automatically syncs to whichever one is higher within a certain RPM. The prop sync button is a dusty switch.. never turned off.
You start the first engine using battery or external power. Then the usual procedure is to perform a cross-generator start, where the running engine generator is used to assist the battery during the start of the second generator. Results in a quicker and cooler start.
Master on, beacon and nav lights on, brakes set, 23V min on center bus, right start switch on, ignition annunciater on, fuel pressure light extinguished, prop rotation, right condition lever to low idle above 12% N1, normal fuel flow (under 100 pph), oil pressure rising, ITT rising and below 820C (1000C maximum), start switch off at 50% N1, N1 at 62% or higher, prop RPM at 1050 with prop ground solenoid annunciator illuminated. RH generator reset, then on. Bus tie annunciators extinguished. Press Master Warning for bleed fail lights (the extinguish because the RH bleed valve is unpowered and normally open until the RH gen is brought online) Voltmeter selected to LH gen to check for 28V (current limiter check), RH condition lever high idle, LH start switch on, LH ignition annunciator, LH fuel pressure annunciator extinguished, LH prop rotation, LH fuel conditions lever to low idle at 12% N1, fuel flow below 100 pph, oil pressure annunciator extinguished, ITT rising below 820C, starter off at 50% N1, RH condition lever low idle, recheck current limiters by observing 28V on LH gen bus, LH gen reset, then on. Reset RH gen to check bus tie annunciators remain extinguished, then on. Avionics Master on, cancel Master Caution. There you go.
this sucks! are you people mute? how about fundimental pt 6 start procedures? I don't want to hear the rest of this after 15000 hrs. video waist of time

Can't tell you how much I miss the Mighty Beech. Hearing the clearance to TEX brings a tear to my eye too. Awesome video!

@swtrooper11 it's the propeller throttle. Full forward = minimum pitch for takeoff and landing. full backward = feather (no torque and no drag)
@TheErikFasterling from the time you start the engine, (hitting the ignition) to low idle, it is when the turbine percent is ~15 %. It depends on the aircraft. You only need high idle on engine 1 (or the first one you started) to start the 2nd engine. Where is the audio? Just watching someone rapidly flipping switches and punching buttons doesn't help explain "startup procedures".
The best aviation video i can see on youtube
Very impressive and informative, thanks for the video! It's obvious you put some time into this and it was worth it. Trying to work my way up to a King Air.
Pretty cool video!
OK HOLD ON ! WHY ARE YOU STARTING THINGS WITHOUT EXPLAINING WHAT YOU ARE DOING? YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING SO HERE HERE IS A COOKIE !!
This is silent tutorial.
Feel comfortable mate
I know what hes doing. Ive flown on fsx with the king air 350i in it. I got many hours playing that.
At least Kingair with PT6A start up goes (simplified):1-Starter on2-Confirm ignition from annunciator light3-Condition lever from cur-off to low idle after N1 rpm has passed 12% (from N1 gauge)4-Confirm fuel flow and oil pressure from gauges 5-Follow ITT needle and confirm peak value within acceptable limits6-Starter off after N1 has passed 50% (self-sustaining burn)7-Generator on
Parts 1-6 should take under 30sec
Pure amazing, one of the best fixed wing tutorials I have ever seen!
Sure would like to see more video of this Pilot flying. Does a Great Job !

Awesome video! I just soloed for the first time at APA. Great airport.

@Mcoov He requested to taxi to the Denver Jet Center. Practically every jet aircraft goes there, so she gets that request dozens of times per day. Just trying to add a little humor.
great video, always liked the big King Airs.
He's missing the generator on each side too in his notation but I don't think it's supposed to be exhaustive. Good videos
Excellent video! One engine instrument, #1 eng. above the "Prop" gauge, seemed to really "lag #2", that is until after take-off and power was reduced a bit. It then "aligned" with #2. great video showing all the procedure. i learned a lot.
That is my favorite aircraft behind an F-14.
what did the other pilot request? when the controller said "never had that request...i'd have to check that"
Nice aircraft, exactly what I want one day. How did you interface all intercom tranmissions and recptions to record on a camcorder?
went flying on saturday... and i saw one of these (king air) though not this model...... dont ask me which one, i think it was a C90A ...... but dammm..... i was more envious than a 30 year old virgin....

Sure climbs fast nice to have all that power.
blastman8888 it's the best skydiving plane. 10 mins were up to 15k.

What was the request that the controller got that she said she had never gotten before?
On rotation the fuel condition levers do not seem to be full forward (High idle)?
At rotation the condition levers are still on low idle.?
Great vid. All it needs is a new Garmin glass panel! J R
Great video and awesome editing!
Thanks for sharing :-)
Cool Thanks. I eventually figured that out to a point, but appreciate you confirming it.
CAn someone tell me a little about how the throttles work on a turboprop? Looks like fuel control on the right, prop pitch in the middle, what's on the left? are the left controls like a combination of the two or something?
Thanks for uploading the video!
nice video
I usually leave the prop sync on until I see it "looking" like its not moving anymore and then turn off prop sync before take off.
Are these still master/slave systems? My 350 automatically syncs to whichever one is higher within a certain RPM. The prop sync button is a dusty switch.. never turned off.
Hahaha, love the way you call yourself JB sometimes instead of Juliet Bravo
how dou you start the plane
Great Video! 280 or 260? haha
22echomike why did u take off with the condition levers at Low Idle ?
Oh I see thank you very much tobber08
And the checklist I have for the King Air 200 says not to have the Prop Sync on inflight.
great video i love it
Why is he taking off in low idle?
talk a lot in the radio isn't a distraction while you are taking off and flying?
how old is this thing? Still uses the mechanical computers?
badass pilot.
Were you belted in ? Or flying commando?
This is the kind of pilot you do not fly with, for he will be a statistic!
no mention on take off flaps setting
Zero unless you really need a short takeoff roll then 40% or approach.
Great Video : )
Donizete Braganca pt SP Brasil ✈✈✈✈✈
What is that spinning white propeller at the bottom of the instrument panel?
prop sync. when the props are perfectly synchronized that won't be spinning.
love kingair
You didn't start the left engine with the right engine's generator?
Likely he used the battery to start it
You start the first engine using battery or external power. Then the usual procedure is to perform a cross-generator start, where the running engine generator is used to assist the battery during the start of the second generator. Results in a quicker and cooler start.
Excellent
Way Cool!
@Ke7ch Total Juliet Indigo Zulu Zulu up in this.
not bat i loved the video and thank for it
Wonder what the request was….the world may never know.
00:31 What's up with the altimeter?
NICE.
first king air i see with no generators.........
@GreenFiles ahahah you're just envious because he owns a Kingair 350 and you don't! hahahah
thumbs up
Say for instance after start up,, maybe the props are out of sync
Prop sync can ONLY be used on the ground...
@swtrooper11 yes right
I work at DJC and know this plane.
+A.KAMALA KANNAN Hell yeah.... :D How do start it...??? I mean,, step by step.... LoL..!
literally what you saw, flip batt switch and hit the start button, afterwards check generators online and turn on avionics ...
I paid for this video from Flight Video productions....
Change title to startup and takeoff
we paid $7 million new for our 2002 350
@10dthompson60 that is disgusting.... thanks for sharing :)
04:00 *lol* - it's a pity that I can't understand what the guy is requesting.
a lot of switchs for everithing Ooouuuuuu!!!!
no one can explain king air start-up; too much for pilot to handle
Master on, beacon and nav lights on, brakes set, 23V min on center bus, right start switch on, ignition annunciater on, fuel pressure light extinguished, prop rotation, right condition lever to low idle above 12% N1, normal fuel flow (under 100 pph), oil pressure rising, ITT rising and below 820C (1000C maximum), start switch off at 50% N1, N1 at 62% or higher, prop RPM at 1050 with prop ground solenoid annunciator illuminated. Press Master Warning for bleed fail lights (the extinguish because the RH bleed valve is unpowered and normally open until the RH gen is brought online) Voltmeter selected to LH gen to check for 28V (current limiter check), RH condition lever high idle, LH start switch on, LH ignition annunciator, LH fuel pressure annunciator extinguished, LH prop rotation, LH fuel conditions lever to low idle at 12% N1, fuel flow below 100 pph, oil pressure annunciator extinguished, ITT rising below 820C, starter off at 50% N1, RH condition lever low idle, recheck current limiters by observing 28V on LH gen bus, LH gen reset, then on. Reset RH gen to check bus tie annunciators remain extinguished, then on. Avionics Master on, cancel Master Caution. There you go.
This is a "splendid" video. =p
Useless video without explanation. Is the pilot too nervous to talk? LOL
Oh god this is hot
This video is not even real is it. Someone needs a reality check, and it's not me.
What is this video supposed to be good for? No explanation, nothing. Stopped watching after 2 minutes.
God forbid anyone explain anything.
The 80's called and they want their tech back.
this sucks!
are you people mute?
how about fundimental pt 6 start procedures?
I don't want to hear the rest of this after 15000 hrs.
video waist of time
Pretty much sucks.
Worthless
Why take off in low idle?
