Pere Marquette 1225 - The North Polar Express

Everyone knows the holiday traditions for Christmas Eve. Elves make their final preparations, Santa delivers toys to the children of the world, and the Polar Express makes its rounds. A slice of this Christmas magic can be found right in the small town of Ashley, Michigan. Ashley completely transforms their downtown into their own imitation North Pole, complete with Santa, elves, and plenty of delicious food! And of course, those who wish to travel to the North Pole by train can board the North Pole Express in Owosso, Michigan, where they will be fittingly transported to Ashley to spend a several hour layover in the town's Christmas event. The train is pulled by the one and only Pere Marquette 1225 - inspiration for and the closest surviving example of the locomotive in the 2004 "Polar Express" film! - so this is THE authentic Polar Express experience (of course under the name North Pole Express due to copyright ;) )
Coming home from college in Pennsylvania for the holidays, I just had to make a detour to come see 1225 pulling the North Pole Express. I lucked out too, as the area was faced with some of the only snow I've seen all year at the very same time. So dim the lights, grab a glass of hot chocolate, and enjoy my footage of Pere Marquette 1225 pulling the Polar Express- er, North Pole Express!
