A like a couple of these specials more than some of the others in your favorites list. The Life and Adventures of Santa Clause - I saw this on TV many moons ago and it always stood out for me. I am a fan of fantasy and while this special takes that concept and wraps it around the story of Christmas I came away really liking it. Would love to see this one re-made by a company like LAIKA. Little Drummer Boy Book II - I liked this more than the original, I thought it was animated better, had better music and still captured the message from the original. Jack Frost - This is a classic for me, great animation, entertaining antagonist & good music. I really like the origin & the fantasy they created with this one. It has a lot of charm. The Stingiest Man in Town - Loved Rankin & Bass animators during this era but this special is slow. My oldest son loves this one so I see it every year. This wouldn't make my list.
I just Love Rankin Bass Christmas Specials, Just Beside Garfield Christmas Special, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and New Kids on the Block Christmas, My Top 20 Favorite Rankin Bass (and Non-Rankin Bass) Christmas Specials are. 20. Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey. 19. Frosty the Snowman. Animated. 18. The Christmas Tree. Animated. 17. Frosty's Winter Wonderland. Animated. 16. Pinocchio's Christmas. 15. The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. Animated. 14. The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. 13. Frosty Returns. Animated. 12. The Little Drummer Boy. 11. For Better or For Worse the Bestest Present. Animated. 10. A Garfield Christmas Special. Animated. 9. The Christmas Toy. (Yes, I'm a Jim Henson Muppets Fan). 8. The Wish that Changed Christmas. Animated. 7. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. 6. The Little Drummer Boy Book 2. 5. Jack Frost. (Rankin Bass). 4. Santa Claus is Coming to Town. 3. For Better or For Worse the Christmas Angel. 2. A Charlie Brown Christmas. 1. The Muppet Christmas Carol. Here's my Honorable Mentions. 1. Rudolph & Frosty's Christmas in July. 2. Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. 3. Rudolph the red nosed reindeer the movie. 4. Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. 5. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys. 6. A Sesame Street Christmas Carol. 7. Elmo Saves Christmas. Etc. Etc.
Have to heavily disagree about Jack Frost, the bittersweet ending was handled fairly well and it is one of my favourite Rankin/Bass specials of all time (also, Pinocchio's Christmas makes a lot more sense in the context of it being a Christmas special to a tv show the studio made)
You missed a special, which was Rudolph/Frosty's Christmas in July. What are your thoughts on it? While I love the special, it's definitely weird and feels like a fanfiction with it crossing over Rudolph, Frosty, and other characters from Rankin Bass movies.
I didn't add it in because it's more of a movie than a special and to me, a special is one that plays once a year and is roughly 30 to 60 minutes. As for what I thought of it, I felt it wasn't a good conclusion for Rankin/Bass in terms of having Rudolph and Frosty in it. But I'm hoping to go over it sometime next year.
Dissenting opinion: as for the First Christmas, the loss of Lucas sheep has a point: show how a good shepherd looks after his flock to save it from the wolf, an analogy to the gospel words in John 10:12-15. Second, Marley is shown more in a pitiful rather in a terrifying way . Third, the Book II of the Little Drummer Boy isn't so bad at all: it has some new memorable characters like the centurion Brutus with his song Money, money and his dim witted sidekick Plato. And one of the kings has more to do in the plot.
@@sullivanbard You are right it is Hard to Find on DVD! But it is here on TH-cam. Maybe if you get around to watching it you could do a Review of it in the Future?
One thing you could've pointed out about Jack Frost is that special is more centered around not a CHRISTMAS background, but just a WINTER one. Still, the way it ended was horrible!
Jack frost is my favorite Christmas Rankin bass special
I loved Jack Frost especially the song by Kubla Kraus
It was kind of sad too. I liked it
The young Santa looks like Link from the legend of Zelda
Pinocchio Christmas is my sister favorite movie

Good Video. But you forgot one Special. Santa Baby from 2001. It was the first Rankin/Bass Special in 16 Years.
I know it exists, but I couldn't find a copy of it to watch since it's so obscure and that most people never heard of it.

How dare you say Jack Frost
I don't know why but I never cared for the Pinocchio one he just doesn't seem to I don't know it's missing something I guess
Dude. You are way to critical. They are all classics.
