How did bohemian Rhapsody get nominated for best picture and not this?

Can't believe some of the comments I'm seeing about Moonlight, it is an incredible piece of cinema that looks at masculinity in men and specifically Black men, sometbing that doesn't get talked about enough. It shows how people can lose who they are and the struggles they go through being black and gay, and not just about being gay but the expectations of what men should be, not only that but it's just absolutely beautifully shot

I loved this film! So many moments where it felt like time just stopped completely. And that score!

in response to some observations about the lack of change in the characters of this film- I say it’s more powerful that many become complacent with their condition but instead approach their poor environment and poor conditions with love. that’s powerful and far more honest than the characters all having a perfect arch. that’s life, and it’s their life which we’re invested in.

You know when watching a Barry Jenkins film, it is nothing like anything else out there. Some don’t like it, I love it!

Just saw this movie with my family. Absolutely beautiful. Similar to Moonlight in many ways, but different at the same time.

I remember watching it back then and finding it quite longer than it needed to be and it dragged... this review made me want to revisit it. Maybe it was just me

I'm looking forward to Dave Franco's scene (in all seriousness, I've heard he's actually good in it)

Really wanted to enjoy this film, walked out, terrible acoustics at The Picture House in Shaftesbury Ave.
Will attempt to watch it again when they have sorted the sound out.

I am not a fan of this film. Everything is immaculately well made but after the scene which was shown here as a clip ends (incidentally the best scene in the film) it seems as though any concern for telling a compelling story gets thrown out the window and we are treated to a bunch of gorgeous repetitive scenes that never allude to the possibility of anything changing in the lives of any of our characters. At first you don't notice because the beginning is so strong but by the end if you haven't fallen asleep you're just left wondering why we didn't get to see the great film that was clearly going on just to the right or left of what was being shown. It feels like the editor accidentally clicked on the outtakes folder instead of the actual cut when they went to render.

The elephant in the room about this film is that the main character of Tish is not very interesting besides the fact that she is very beautiful. Show me a scene where she says something that surprises you or that is original or unconventional. She can't defend herself in fromt on Faunie's parents. Its her Mom & sister that have to come to her defence. I don't find her inspiring and she is suppose to carry this film. As much as Moonlight was such an original script this one is full of conventional moments sprinkled with a couple great scenes such as when they get the loft from the Jewish landlord or the announcement of the new baby. Jenkins does do enough to make me luv his main character.

I always feel like I'm missing something when I hear critics talk about Moonlight. Maybe it was because I've heard so many great things about it, that it never could've possibly lived up to what I imagined. But I really don't understand the high praise this movie got. It was like three thirds taken from three potentially interesting movies put together in what was, to me, and unsatisfying experience.

I can’t comprehend how Regina King's performance is award worthy

Just seen it. It was too long, and the ending was changed. The director had enough power to show what he wanted to show. And he showed too much. I seldom look at my watch in cinema, but this time I did.

I really wanted to like this movie but... I feel like it was poorly edited and badly acted. It bored me to tears. Usually I enjoy films of this nature but this one bored me to absolute tears. I just couldn’t get through it.

When watching this film I didn't know it was from the same guy that created Moonlight, but I suspected as such. The films share many attributes, including being slow, ponderous and boring. I only feel off to sleep once this time around though, so that's an improvement, although when I came to the same conversation in the same scene was still going on. I guess they're just not my style.

Regina just seems like she plays the same character from all those years ago in Enemy of the State - no range

the trailers suggest a load of overwrought, woefully earnest nonsense cunningly disguised as 'epic' cinema.
