Beautiful sailing!! You should unreef the main to give her a real sailing experience!! Haha! That's insane about the lost anchor. Wow! You took all the precautions and are still gone. It sucks that a simple cotter pin holding the pin on the swivel can cause this. I've had cotter pins snap. Unfortunately, you can't tell when a stainless steel cotter pin will break because it always looks good on the outside. An awesome cautionary tale. Keep it up!!
I've seen it happen before to other sailing channels losing an an anchor on passage. I tie a line from the roll bar of the anchor to the pullpit while under way so I can't lose my anchor.
While fishing up in Puget Sound a few years back, we had issues with seals eating our fish as we reeled them in, so it is not always a shark that takes your catch. ;)
Lauren, I really loved this one, what's new right? I love them all. I do have a connection to this episode. I too have lost an anchor while fishing in Northern Ontario, and lost half a Permit to a shark, while filming a fishing show in the Keys. Behond that, great scenery, outstanding sailing shots, and beautiful young ladies having fun, who could ask for more? I especially love the segments where you put in the teaching clips of breathing training and sailing instructions in the last few episodes. Nice touch keeping us engaged in some of the lesser known parts of your adventure. Some good news for you perhaps, TH-cam started popping up some of your older episodes on my phone this last week. I would fathom out how long your anchor line is and get that replaced. I know you already know🙂. Remember to always have reserve in fuel tanks by checking with a meter stick and flash light. Great video rocna original anchors i have used a lot on all kinds of the best anchors . Do not use a swivel make up like to break the ears off on the end or the bolt goes through I have seen this a few times had one come right to the top of the anchor pulpit broke off and anchor fell to the bottom and the swivel was only a month old you’re better off using two stainless steel shackles.defender has these anchors. It really sucks not having a working windlass.. BTW, I have the same anchor swivel… noticed it could just get loose.. Apply loctite to that bolt so it won’t come loose again..
perhaps a mooring camera is in order? pointed at the bow just in case.. sabotage isn't unheard of nor is THEFT. . . someone may have felt they needed said anchor more than yourself? it appears as if it was disassembled in place? dunno did it have a cotter key in place? if not get one, no way that nut and bolt can separate in the shackle

Great video...sorry about the anchor, that stinks. Are your toe rails, natural teak that you just let get silver? I ask as they look smooth and mine if I don't varnish will get to a silver grey, but will be very rough looking. Yours looks nice and smooth still. Anyway have a great one!! That was an excellent sail, my favorite. What was the wind mph? How many knots were you going? I see you got the main up, was it fully up? OMG the anchor! Definitely new anchor.
Lauren, are your winch stripper arms set correctly?...seem to me they keep the sheets jamming as you winch them....easy fix, you can dial them to the left as you face them. Anchor swivels...use thread locker, spot weld the bolt, drill and wire lock the bolt, hammer and rivet bolts threaded end...do any of them on the new anchor tackle. Also, does voltage drop below 11V AT THE WINCH ITSELF as you use it? It looks pretty new...maybe it is a voltage drop issue as I have seen you work it slowly. Nice waters athere lways. Enjoy 🥰🥰
If it isn't the engine, it's the anchor...Did the pin on the shackle back out, or shear altogether? Stainless Steel can be a bit fickle at times and gives little warning before failure. If it backed out due to vibration, its security wiring may have failed. At least it didn't take a chunk out of the bow :/ Crossing my fingers for a benevolent sponsor to help you with a fancy new anchor \m/ Silver lining to all of this is that you'll be super secure now, and a bit of bling on the bow will look nice. Shame about the anchor. Always make the anchor fast to the boat, not the chain. Also, I saw no wire on the shackles. A coil of monel wire to mouse shackles and such is essential .
I did mention a few videos back ..be very carefull when handling the chain and anchor .it doesn't bare thinking about if one of you get your hand trapped between the bow roller and the chain..especially if its choppy....try and get that windlass fixed asp...also be very careful where you buy your new expensive chain and anchor from .......lot of counterfeits around that look the real deal ....anyhow your little monster is adorable can I buy him ..I have a brand new 55kg rocna I will swap for him ....🐈...
Have you modified your exhaust system yet? You should never have to close the seacock ever time you start and stop the engine.. the exhaust elbow is below the water line..should be changed to a dry elbow above the waterline with the water injected after the 180 degree

Try a hacksaw blade on fishing line wrapped around a shaft. Also, please keep hands well away from the windlass roller! Great show but I cringe seeing the girls fingers so close to it while running! :)
The hardest lessons are learning from things we lose unfortunately, aside the cost and replacement stress how are you feeling truly? Little things add up and can crush a person if left unattended. Make sure you give yourself time daily to recenter yourself. Do you have a specific way that you find most helpful to you?
Hi Lauren! So, there are only about a dozen tools I bring with me on deliveries... one is a "Safety Wire Plier". Why? Because people don't seem to safety wire their shackles anymore... Check it out - as with everything, pay more than you think you can afford - $70-100 on eBay I'd bet... They're just magic.
Hair, makeup on a sailboat is like crying in baseball. Not permitted. Can't believe your swivel pin broke on the anchor. That totally sucks. Looks like y'all having loads of fun can't wait till I retire and join y'all. My wife and I will be the crazy old people. LOL
That is the WORST kind of swivel you can use on an anchor!!! More anchors are lost on that type of swivel. Never mind what sailing magazines say. Few days of testing an outcome does not determine!!! Don't you set a GPS position fix when you anchor? A new anchor from the US to the Bahamas in NOT going to be cheap. Upward of $1800-2000. Try to find the lost anchor!
I left a comment about two months ago regarding your anchor retaining stuff. You want to make sure your anchor is clipped in with an all metal attachment. I have a Mantus M1 with a roll bar. I put a clevis pin type shackle on the roll bar attached to a short length of chain. I haven't lost the anchor yet. Also that rope clip you have looks like it is just gonna snap. Replace the rope with some light chain or something else, that is your next point of failure. Additionally order yourself the Mantus anchor swivel as that one you have is utter garbage. I can't tell you how many of those swivels you have that I find diving attached to missing anchors. They break and disconnect sooooooo often. The Mantus swivel retains the pin that holds the chain and anchor pretty much 100 percent of the time, the "screw which is actually a pin" never comes out. So replace that rope on the clip with a longer light chain and clip directly onto the anchor somehow. The Mantus M1 is great in the sandy Bahamian waters, and is cheaper than a similar Rocna for sure because they are imported. Though in mud your secondary Danforth is a real holder and will typically outperform all other anchors by a factor of three at a similar weight.
I did get the mantus swivel (now) and I will be replacing that safety line.. I have been putting a line on my new anchor directly to the boat now😅 Thank you for all of your insight 🙏🏼
I second the Mantus anchor swivel. Make sure you FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS (they have a video) about using the seizing wire that comes with the swivel. Don’t just use a pin, or loctite.

The trick is to secure your anchor to the roller then you do not have tension on your windless.
Yeah.. unfortunately I’ve always been taught to secure chain to boat versus anchor itself to boat. Lesson learned 😅

That is the WORST kind of swivel you can use on an anchor!!! More anchors are lost on that type of swivel. Never mind what sailing magazines say. Few days of testing an outcome does not determine!!! Don't you set a GPS position fix when you anchor? A new anchor from the US to the Bahamas in NOT going to be cheap. Upward of $1800-2000. Try to find the lost anchor!

I left a comment about two months ago regarding your anchor retaining stuff. You want to make sure your anchor is clipped in with an all metal attachment. I have a Mantus M1 with a roll bar. I put a clevis pin type shackle on the roll bar attached to a short length of chain. I haven't lost the anchor yet. Also that rope clip you have looks like it is just gonna snap. Replace the rope with some light chain or something else, that is your next point of failure. Additionally order yourself the Mantus anchor swivel as that one you have is utter garbage. I can't tell you how many of those swivels you have that I find diving attached to missing anchors. They break and disconnect sooooooo often. The Mantus swivel retains the pin that holds the chain and anchor pretty much 100 percent of the time, the "screw which is actually a pin" never comes out. So replace that rope on the clip with a longer light chain and clip directly onto the anchor somehow. The Mantus M1 is great in the sandy Bahamian waters, and is cheaper than a similar Rocna for sure because they are imported. Though in mud your secondary Danforth is a real holder and will typically outperform all other anchors by a factor of three at a similar weight.
I did get the mantus swivel (now) and I will be replacing that safety line.. I have been putting a line on my new anchor directly to the boat now😅

I second the Mantus anchor swivel. Make sure you FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS (they have a video) about using the seizing wire that comes with the swivel. Don’t just use a pin, or loctite.

Try and find a Mantus anchor swivel. Then the chance of loosing your anchor again will be zero

@@laurenlanders Expedition Evans have a similar style and form as your videos, no nudity just swimsuits they actually own and wear normally. Well they found that many of their videos were also being restricted, and after a lot of back and forth with YT, it turns out that that someone/s were intentionally reporting them for violating community guidelines like some demented karens
