Duncan and Robinson didnt turn to be the best duo simply because David was already old (he retired that year) and had some injured problems since 97. But he had at least 10 amazing seasons with 1 MVP, #2 (behind Jordan) or #3 places at MVP voting for like 4 times in a row. He was a beast and carried a mediocre Spurs to playoffs over and over again. Cant imagine what that Robinson with a new Duncan could do against Lakers who end up getting Shaq and Kobe still young and at their best.

+Konphetty Yes, his first 7 years in the league in that era is very underrated. Spurs were not very good at all, except for his rookie year, and he made them a very good team, yet took criticism for not going to finals. Please...Second best player from 89-96 behind Jordan. You can argue Olajuwon was second, but Robinson was better during this stretch.

And let's face it, their offense was choppy in the regular season and Parker and Ginobili were still very young. They also struggled against Phoenix in the first round. However, these guys got hot at the right time and their chemistry really clicked in this round. Very special seeing the Lakers dethroned that year.

Perfect intangibles as a leader and winner.

Yeah. People are actually saying that about TD and Nash now because of their age. And yet Duncan is playing very solid in the best team in the NBA right now and Nash's possible departure from phoenix and signing with a contender is all the talk in the NBA. They are winners and their IQ is a testament of that given that they were never really very athletic to begin with. Young people these day only appreciate all the flashy things. They say Spurs are boring but they play BEAUTIFUL basketball.

Duncan was so accurate. Thats whats so amazing about him. I use to always look at his stats and he would be like 12-18, 12-19, 16-24. etc. Some people dont realize how accurate he was. He hardly took a bad shot. He took some tough shots but he made a lot of them. Its crazy to think i watched Tim his whole career and say hes the best power forward i ever watched. I watched some great ones like Malone and Barkley. Didnt watch them in thier early years so i cant judge on that. Even older people who've watched basketball since the 60s and 70a say hes the best power forward ever. Either way. You gotta put him up there with one of the best at his position if not the best ✌

2001 NBA Playoffs: Spurs get swept by the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals
2002 NBA Playoffs: Spurs lose to the Lakers in the Western Conference Semi-Finals in 5 Games
Did Duncan join the Lakers in the 2002 off-season like how Kevin Durant joined the Warriors in the 2016 off-season after blowing a 3-1 lead against them in the Western Conference Finals??
No. Instead Duncan sought for revenge and got it in 2003 after having this phenomenal performance in this video which ultimately lead to him winning an NBA championship and a Finals MVP that year. That's what true NBA superstars and legends do. They do not take the easy route to win like KD did, and they instead have great performances to beat the best instead of joining them. Duncan is definitely a top 10 player of all time and it's a shame how people overlook his greatness because he wasn't "exciting" smh

As for the 04 Finals, there was no beating Detroit. I'm not accusing you of this, but I love it when fans have the temerity to claim that Ben Wallace dominated Shaq. Shaq scored 36 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in game 4 of the 04 Finals, yet the Lakers still lost. Shaq was the most dominant and most efficient player that series, but unfortunately for LA, Detroit was the best defensive team Kobe has ever faced.

+AnimeFan 2016 For 3 straight titles, Shaq owned Duncan and wiped his a** with him. The unfortunate part about Shaq's career is that if you take his best 10 years, he blows Tim Duncan out of the water, but when Shaq faded, he really faded and Tim has remained a very solid player for years beyond his prime. Duncan gets the nod for the entire career, but if you take players just in their primes, it's no contest, Shaq wins.

+Johnny 34 Prime Shaq+Kobe are tough to beat. But Duncan did it twice. 99 and 2003. Doesn't that tell you how good Duncan was?

+Jeewantha Bandara That's why I hate when they say thr Kings and Lakers were a better rivalry, the Kings never truly beat them. The Spurs were they're true rivals.

LA doubles Duncan and still can't stop him. San Antonio with single coverage on Shaq and just living with the results. They'd rather let just one guy try (and fail) to beat them rather than the whole team.

WHEN SHAQ WAS MOTIVATED, NOBODY COULD STOP HIM, NOT EVEN DUNCAN. THAT SAID THE DUDE JUST DIDN'T BLEED BASKETBALL. DIDN'T CARE A LOT OF THE TIME.
