Russia's Olympic team gold is what I've been waiting for since 2010 when I became a Rus Gym stan because of Komova and Mustafina. As someone who lives in reality and not fantasy, I can't relate to people saying US team could send their A, B and C team and could still win the team regardless. Sunisa, Jordan and Grace are legit US heroines of gymnastics and deserve all the credit and respect!
Wow, Kim, thanks for saying that. I did not see that either, I am not blind, I live in reality even if it pains me. I do root for the U.S., but sometimes there are foreign athletes that I root for just as well (i.e., Andrade, Melnikova, Iordache, Mustafina are some of my faves). Anyway, I would have said the team A and B thing back in 2016 for sure, but this time, no way! I kept thinking why are people (even the commentators) saying that? I did think we were going to win gold but by a small margin this time around. Even with 2nd in qualifications, I thought they were going to snap out of it and probably get gold by a few tenths. Once Simone pulled out, I knew it wasn't going to happen. Not that they were not capable w/o her, just that the sudden change of course could rattle even the best of athletes.
I almost cried just by looking at Simone's reaction after her vault. She's disappointed, it's obvious that Simone isn't in the right mindset to compete in her peak level. They should've known. She could've suffered a major injury. Should've withdrew her earlier
@@kimochiyokatta1710 I think they kept her on the team so she could get the medals. Her coaches obviously knew something was wrong before the event started. They should have replaced her with an alternate.
@@mygirldarby that’s exactly what happened. It was TOM. He was so focused on her and knew that if she was healthy it’d be an automatic win. Now look, he should’ve been smarter about the team, I personally think he should’ve chosen Kayla 🤷🏽♂️
It just feel right to see ROC win the gold. After two silver medal in 2012 and 2016, with incredible gymnast like Mustafina or Komova, they finally get it thanks to the new generation. Melnikova just confirm that she is now the rock of the team.
I thought of that too but life took a different direction for Aliya when she had her baby girl. I also don't like they only had 4 members per team in the middle of a pandemic when in 1996 it was 7 members per team.
I will never get over how Angelina Melnikova closes out with her floor routine, just like Cheng Fei and Aly Raisman. And she even threw in a triple l-turn for good measure! Loved Suni Lee and Viktoria Listunova as well for being stars of this final. And how the Russians hit their floor routines after their disastrous beam rotation. And how GB pleasantly surprised everyone! Really sad for China though. Thanks for letting us relive this epic final.
The US team even tho they won silver, in my eyes what they went thru during this meet was awful but they are tough, they are golden to me! Russia got lucky that the US wasn’t at their best !
I love all the US gymnasts but it is really exciting to enter into an era again where results are less predictable. I can't remember being this nervous in a team final since 2008.
LOVE how these commentators handled the whole situation with Simone. Informative without being intrusive. It's also nice to finally see routines from all countries! NBC's coverage is absolutely abysmal. It really has been interesting the last few years seeing countries like Belgium, Italy, The Netherlands popping up in team. They bring back such an elegance to the sport like you saw in the 90's from Ukraine and Romania.
I remember many people saying that they didn't stand a chance at medaling in these OG. I was rooting for Team GB and was actually impressed they did it and I'm so proud they proved people wrong
Netherlands also had a set of twins, the Wevers, but they didn't make the team final. Together with the Averina twins in the rhythmic side, there were 4 sets of twins in this Olympics gymnastics. Love that fun fact.
Imagine if the Downie sisters were on the team along with the Gadirova sisters. That would've been epic. They would've made the team if it wasn't for the untimely death of their brother that shook the girls
I love how the commentators are always open-minded and always never really have a bias towards anybody I like how they explain everything so that you know what gymnast it is explain every move and everything like that and I think that's really good I wish they would do it like that over here and the us but I really enjoy watching them and I enjoy the commentary thank you I love the download can't wait till the next Olympic games bye
@@hannibaljustincase9985 I think they got the team bronze at the last worlds, and they were beyond ecstatic, I wish they could have medaled here too, but I am just as happy for Great Britain.
Congratulations ROC! A well deserved win! They are incredible, elegant AND powerful. Angelina Melnikova is a queen! ROC had the most beautiful leotards for every round of competition.
@@Loadacodswallop I know the commentators kept saying this but it's actually from Sigoa, an Italian brand. Melnikova said so in her Instagram. The leotards she designed are for kids. 😊
Mustafina said before Rio that she will compete under the russian flag or not at all. She would have never started under a neutral flag. Saying that, I wish she would come back as a specialist. But giving her style to all the newcomers as a coach is fine too, I guess.
It seems hard to find actually good commentators, these ones are okay but they made multiple mistakes, for instance calling Lilia's vault a Cheng and not even noticing that Simone only did a 1.5 Yurchenko.
Russia is coming back strong again. Im sensing a 2010-2012 level of dominance from the big 3. Gelya's starting to achieve the Mustafina/Khorkina/Komova level of greatness. I'm sure she'll slay the 2022-2024 quad without injuries or retirement. She already mastered the DTY, she could pull an amanar, plus she already had a cheng. She's becoming great on beam. She even competed with a full in pike dismount 3 years ago. Her bars can outscore their strongest specialist and she's great on floor. Urazova's clearly going places. A future beam and bars champion, the height on her tumbles are high. She could do a Silivas. Listunova will be the first aa champion from Russia since Mustafina. Her flexibility and execution is unmatched, especially her double layout😭 I'm so excited! edit: listunova's execution is just magical on all apparatuses EXCEPT VAULT💀💀
Ummmmm, USA won the Team Final in 2011 and at the Olympics in 2012!! USA also Won the All around in both those years.. I think your timeline of 2010-2012, should only say 2010..
@@davidreign9247 I think they mean the strength of the team and individuals, I don’t think you have to win to be considered dominant. I feel like dominant teams are the ones you always see on the podium. also we’ll start seeing closer margins.
@@davidreign9247 but Aliya went home as the most successful artistic gymnast in 2010 and 2012. Even if Jordyn won the AA in 2011, Komova's still much more remembered and celebrated because of her display from that quad. They also have Afanasyeva, literally one of the best floor workers of all time. Tatiana Nabieva who revolutionized bars with her eponymous skill, and the most beautiful gymnast to ever grace the sport-Anastasia Grishina.
It's as if Russia was destined to win this. Viktoria Listunova was not supposed to compete because of the age requirement. She held the team together on beam and provided a safety net on floor. Well done!
How did the two commentators not realize for like an entire hour than Simone did a 1.5 twist and not an Amanar, and thats why she had a 5.0 difficulty lol?
I had to blink my eyes a few times than usual when I saw Urazova. I thought I was looking at Bella Hadid's missing sister. Anyways, I hope as she matures, she could upgrade her floor and beam, and maybe her bars routine as well. I see a lot of potential in her. Same with Listunova. Talk about her beam mount though. Gives me the 80's or 90's vibe with that.
@@cassieee3499 she worked on many upgrades but was inconsistent on them because of a growth spurt. We will see more difficulty from her in the coming years.
@@cassieee3499 I absolutely adore Vlada. I think if she can get her floor to 5.5D she will be a podium finisher. Her execution on all her FX skills is Chef's kiss. Even her feet stay pointed.
@@chariezwane3981 I would love to see Vlada to stretch it to a 6.0 DS on floor, if possible. I mean if she really wants to be a full AA'er, she has to at least extend it to make her program a podium contender alongside other senior level programs.
@@tineegonzales7365 I think 6.0 might be a lot for now since she is still adjusting to her growth spurt and she is stronger on bars and beam anyway. I think with some clever routine adjustments, a range of 5.4 to 5.6 isn't too bad. 6.0 is a lot, considering the stronger floor workers like Murakami and Gelya are at a 5.9, the Gadirovas are at 5.5, and I think Flavia is at around 5.6. I think she'd still be super competitive at mid 5 since her execution is so good.
@@chariezwane3981 I understand. Still, she has a lot more years to get it done and I'm hoping she can without any injuries, of course. I would like to see her progress as a medal contender AA'er, bc her and Listunova will most likely carry that torch for Russia when Gelya retires.
Wow these announcers! They didn’t catch the 1.5 and then they didn’t even realise that Biles left and came back and then took them ages to realise she was off bars. The Americans were all over this situation
ROC and USA are on another level, but the battle for the bronze, between UK, Italy Japon and France, just show that those countries could pretend to more in days to come and it please to see
Congrats to Russia for the Gold, I was rooting for them to win. They absolutely deserved it, mistakes happen as always, but they were the best team from Qualifications and it was no different in the Team Final. I expected this result but what I didn't expect was the 3.5 advantage, certainly Jordan Chiles's routine on Floor and Simone's absence, regardless of those factors, I still believe Russia had a better team and performance, also, why is nobody talking about TeamGB Bronze?? They made history, it was unexpected, many people had previously said that they couldn't get to the podium without the Downies and they proved those people wrong. I'm so proud of Great Britain and for the first time in a few years the podium positions were really open. It wasn't as tense as the MAG Team Final, maybe, but it was certainly exciting to watch
it is frightening to see that Simone completely loses orientation in the air while jumping. Crazy that she'll finish the jump and not hurt herself. Greatest respect for it.
The last time a country has won both the men’s and women’s gymnastics team gold medals I’m the same year was China, back during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Watching Simone bail out just gives the chills, you could see that she wasn’t mentally fine that day, but she then came back no matter what. Could you also post team all around for rhythmic gymnastics 💛💛
To everyone asking for more uploads, this channel seems to be on a weekly schedule for WAG. So we'll have to wait another week for more. But right now you can watch all the replays on the Olympics website!
The only way to make this watchable is to have this video open in two different tabs, muting the tab you’re watching and syncing the audio of the second tab to the video feed.
I wish GB were included more since they were on the podium. The people in charge of the broadcasting assume that it’s always going to be USA, Russia and China on top. They never show much of any other countries. More fool them.
And how is that fool of them? They don't have time mashine or psychic abilities. All the predictions were about those 3 teams to be on top. And predictions are the only instrument to build broadcasting schedule. They can't include all, the time is limited.
Well, it's because of their order in qualifications: Russia, USA, China. That's why they were assumed to be on the podium. Then France qualified 4th, Italy won bronze at the last worlds, and Japan is the host country. GB winning bronze was a surprise so it's difficult to plan the broadcast around that. Their margins were also close.
And please do not forget that GB didn't have major stars. I know Gadirovu sisters are well known in the UK, but they were not contenders for any individual finals, which the actual results proved. Becky was the only one with the potential to medal and I'm sure they would have shown her bars (and maybe beam).
I think the emphasis on the importance of Biles in the team is overrated. Don't get ne wrong she's an amazing gymnast but her teammates are also amazing as well. Lee was definitely the MVP here but every girl did her best to make her country proud. With or without Biles, this was a wonderful result and they should be proud.
Well said! I don’t think any other 3-person (excluding Biles) US team would have gotten silver the way they did. ROC had a great team for the 4-person format. Unfortunately US needed Biles to hit to get gold.
It's truly mind boggling how these commentators spent over 30 minutes asking why the US wasn't challenging Biles' vault score. Like I get everyone counts twists wrong on occasion, and they don't seem to have gotten a replay. But surely in all that time after seeing the US wasn't challenging the score a light bulb should have went off in their heads
I have always found the notion that a result in sport is a given before it has even happened ridiculous. Before the Olympics I heard people say stuff like: ''Every member of the US womens team is guaranteed a gold medal in the team event''. When will people ever learn that nothing is certain in sports.
It’s no wonder there are a couple sets of twins here, imagine having a competitor share a bedroom with you 😂 I’m sure they’re always pushing each other.
Russia really was the better team in this competition however it is truly sad that we are not gonna get to see them compete for who knows how long with what’s currently going on and that’s unfortunate especially since it’s not even their fault they have been banned
Thanks for posting, I was really hoping this coverage would give us more of the British routines, but I guess they were sitting in 7th most of the competition. Showing Italy and Japan more was nice though, I just feel like Britain's bronze is such a HUGE achievement for them, and it was kind of forgotten in all the Simone drama.

Team GB as such potential!!! Especially as Amelie Morgan and the Gadirova Twins have another Olympics in them!!
yes, and those twins are world class.
The gadirovas can easily to a triple twisting double tuck or even moors as their opening pass
I remember many people saying that they didn't stand a chance at medaling in these OG. I was rooting for Team GB and was actually impressed they did it and I'm so proud they proved people wrong
Kind of crazy that there are two sets of twins in the team finals - Great Britain and Italy.
Netherlands also had a set of twins, the Wevers, but they didn't make the team final. Together with the Averina twins in the rhythmic side, there were 4 sets of twins in this Olympics gymnastics. Love that fun fact.
😄😄
Imagine if the Downie sisters were on the team along with the Gadirova sisters. That would've been epic. They would've made the team if it wasn't for the untimely death of their brother that shook the girls
I love how the commentators are always open-minded and always never really have a bias towards anybody I like how they explain everything so that you know what gymnast it is explain every move and everything like that and I think that's really good I wish they would do it like that over here and the us but I really enjoy watching them and I enjoy the commentary thank you I love the download can't wait till the next Olympic games bye

Team ROC gives such Gold Vibes ❤🌌
I agree with everything. It made me so happy to see Listunova smiling at the end of her floor and Melnikova getting emotional right at the last pose.

Pleaaaase, post the rhythmic gymnastics videos :) I can't wait to watch them.
It's as if Russia was destined to win this. Viktoria Listunova was not supposed to compete because of the age requirement. She held the team together on beam and provided a safety net on floor. Well done!

I was hoping until the very end for italy to win bronze! I also wish Giorgia could have been there 😭😭😭 but i was happy for gb to win a medal
The way they covered gymnastics this time was ridiculous.
And please do not forget that GB didn't have major stars.
I know Gadirovu sisters are well known in the UK, but they were not contenders for any individual finals, which the actual results proved. Becky was the only one with the potential to medal and I'm sure they would have shown her bars (and maybe beam).
