- How to stop auto backup of Google Photos? In this tutorial, I show you how to disable Google Photos sync and stop Google Photos from backing up pictures and videos on iPhone or Android. Follow the steps below to disable Google Photos auto backup sync:
1. Open the Google Photos app on your iPhone or Android phone.
2. Select your profile picture in the top right of the Google Photos app.
3. Select Backup. It might say Backup complete or Backing up.
4. Once in Backup, select the 3 vertical dots in the top right of the app.
5. Select Backup settings.
6. Toggle off Backup & sync.

Doesn't work. Google still syncs even though it is turned off. (Update: I simply disabled Google photos and stopped using the app, life is better now). To disable, go to settings/general/apps/photos and then click disable.

How do i turn on auto backup even if i dont go on the app
I have the same issue. It's disabled but google photo's still keeps synching with my phone. I'm tearing my hair out trying to get it to stop.

I have turned off sync and new pictures still show up in Google photos....
It seems like a way to force you to upgrade your account by saving all of your pictures to Google photos. Once your account is full from pictures, you can no longer receive emails...
And notice NOBODY WILL ANSWER THIS. I've watched at least 40 videos and every person with the same issue gets no answer.

Go the google photos app info and turn off the promission to have access to the storge

I just denied permission for this app.
All my downloaded pictures are in my gallery still. Hopefully it stays that way and I hope it helps

It is important to know and I've never met this on TH-cam: if you add some pictures to an album in Google Photos, the app will upload that regardless of the backup & sync is off.
How do you turn that shit off? My hoes keep sending nudes and they keep popping in there. How do i stop. Please this is a matter of life and death

I did turn off backup and sync option, after few days, Google Photo was still automatically backing up my photos and video. Why? Am I missing on something?
Google is doing it to force you to buy extra storage. They even make any option to stop synch difficult to find.

When your in Back Up Setting...just switch it OFF that it!

Go to that Google account & turn off backup. That way, you can remove pics from that account but not your other Google accounts.
I turned off back up and my photos and videos are still backing up
FYI Once you have disabled it, google will still put them in google photos ONLY ON THAT DEVICE. If you delete them from your gallery they will be deleted on google. If you go on your pc they wont be there.
So it means... If we optout the backup option but picture still shows in google option.. But it's not taking the space in google drive?
this is so dumbbbb. my phone has way more space than 15gb and when I delete photos from my Google it deletes them from my fucking phone

Doesnt work. Every article on the interrnet says to do this, but my backup and sych is OFF in GP for sure and photos taken on iOS decices still drop immediatedly to GP. Help!
So shutting off B & S does stop GP from loading phone pics into the GP cloud, ie. visible on OTHER devices. But it continues to manage local photos.
if u turn backuo of it will show photos from ur device on th app but wont backup so check from a laptop or other device the photos wont show up on it

This method doesnt work but if you go to the app icon hold it and turn off its permissions it will no longer save your photos but until you give it permission again you also cant see your past photos though they will be there

On my Android Pixel 6. Phone: Google photos- settings- backup, I turned its switch off. I took a photo and, I got a duplicate.
I restarted my phone, took a photo and, the backup feature is now off.
Doesn't work i did turn off but the tiktok video is still there whenever i deleted tiktok video in google backup it also deleted in gallery so it doesnt work
It doesn't work at all I did this months ago, and Google is still backing up photos from my phone.
For some reason, when I delete photos off my Google account, those same photos I deleted are also deleted out of my phone gallery. Which is weird

Does anyone know how to move/copy all my google photos to an SD card ON MY ANDROID PHONE? OR my computer HARD DRIVE PLEASE???.XX
I did try this on my Iphone 12 and iPad, it did not stop syncing. Anytime, I take a picture on the iPhone. It shows up on google photo.
Once I click on the image icon I can’t click on my account in the upper right corner. It isn’t there
I also tried turning off backup but without success. Photos still show up in Google Photos and I need to free up space so my email works.
If I delete the Google Photos it also deletes them from my phone. I also cannot download them to my phone.
My life was much easier when I had everything on my phone and could just once in a while put them on an external.
Now I'm just stuck!
Go to settings on your phone, then apps , click on photos, go to permissions and disable all permissions. The directions in the video doesn't work probably because the app has been updated, if your doing it through the app you're just going to Turn Off Back Up, as there is no back up/sync option only Back Up now, which basically does both. Google diliberately makes things more complicated than it needs to be, probably so they can Sell You more stoage space/sell you something you don't need. After disabling permissions I then deleted the app in case permissions get turned back on some how

Hey man!! I dont even have back up turned on and its still putting the photos into google photo. How do you stop it from uploading to google photos 😕
I just tried this method and everyone is right..does NOT work. I took a photo to test and sure enough it shows right up in google photos when it is turned off. I can see where you can just remove the entire app on the phone...sad to lose nice features but I can't risk more emails not working. This entire issue just seems like a way to get you to buy more storage. Bad Google ...BAD
Update: so I had to DELETE the "photos" app off my phone to get them to stop backing it up...then I had to manually delete all the duplicated "backup" files to let me have back the storage space for drive and emails.

Hi there! Whenever I add a non backed up photo to a particular album, the photo gets backed up even when the back up option is turned off. What is the solution?
It will automatically back up when we add the photo in a album.. We can't create an album without back up..
It still send my pics there.

Honestly, I thought it was a bad feature. But after my pixel 5a catastrophically failed today, I regret turning the feature off because I lost a lot of photos and videos.

Nope. to do it for Iphone you have to go into the iphone settings (settings icon with the gear) go to the google photos app, then change to DO NOT ALLOW ACCESS.

I hate Google, I get an email in my gmail today saying my gmail is full or so I thought, So I went to my gmail deleting stuff I didn't really need and it didn't making a fucking dent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, It was all because of googles photo's app was backing up the photo's on my phone, All I had to do was un sync or Stop Allowing Back Up of photos on my phone to google photo's app and presto I suddenly have tons of storage in my gmail. To bad I didn't know this before I deleted emails. If it was stated in the email I received that all I had to do was un sync google phots's from my phone and I would have had tons of storage, But thats to easy, these tech companies deliberately make thing hard, probably because they want sell you stuff you don't need!!!!!!!! I also deleted the app so permissions don't get turned back on some how

Okay..... but does it get rid of what is has backed up already like dropbox or no? Seems like a pretty obvious question you'd have answered in this video as it follows logically from it and is absolutely relevant, but oh well, garbage channel.
Also Google backing up photos/video etc fills up SPACE FILES in our Hoogle account which then Google can disable your account including email accounts UNTIL you either delete your photos/Videos after Transfering them to a MEMORY SD CARD of course. OR you will have to PAY Google monthly as I find myself doing right now untill I transfer my photos again to my memory card and not forget to delete my Google back ups. Which isnt easy especially if you have 10s of Thousands files
