    I am really looking forward to seeing your adventures with your awesome R1T! I love your videos. But please do kW for charging going forward instead of miles/hour or minute. kW is what matters. How the driver decides to burn that energy is irrelevant as it varies so much. How many miles you can drive on say 10% charge is very different if its done off-road in mud, doing 70mph with a strong headwind in snowfall in winter or doing 50mph in 80 degrees on a calm day while slowly descending. Energy in kW (over time) is what matters when charging. And energy out in miles/kWh is what matters when driving. And off course, how many kWh can you fill that battery with, and is the battery % scale linear. (I'll be coming over to the US for the eclipse too. Possibly Texas but not sure where to yet...) Looking forward to your next video with your R1T MaxPack

    Excellent presentation. Thank you. It is funny how for decades we have been able to easily and with no drama fill our vehicles with the equivalent of 330+ killowatts of energy *per-minute* into virtually every vehicle made from the cheapest to the most expensive at every single dispensary. Today folks are getting all excited about getting even *less* than that in a freaking hour *and* only at unicorn dispensaries with perfect conditions, when a dispensary is free and not broken.

    Great data. Instead of miles per hour for charge speed, do you have the kw? Kw is really the metric used to determine charging speed. I believe tapping the miles per hour icon changes to kw. If you redo this without AC on please show kw.

    great stuff. Just configured the maxpack R1s after a big gulp when clicking the $10K cost of it. I am wondering whether you think the efficiency differences between the dual motor and the quad could affect your mile/min charge calculations ie. how much of the advantage of the max pack is because you were comparing to the less efficient (my assumption) quad motor config that state of charge and out of spec used.

    • @MotorsportUnplugged
      @MotorsportUnplugged  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely...the Rivian configurator says the AT Large Pack Quad is only 274 miles with a full charge, while the Dual Motor with the same config is 307 miles. How that actually compares in the real world is kinda unknown, info out there for the DM with Large or Max packs seems very rare at this point.

    I love math and you hit it on the head. I have the R1T performance Max pack and absolutely love it. Granted I’m an original reservation holder so I paid $7000 more for the max pack, and it is totally worth the wait and cost to me. Zero range anxiety. More charger anxiety than anything else. The truck is absolutely amazing …

    Problem is on your gained mile comparison you are comparing a dual motor to a quad. Apples oranges

      Agree, you can't use the Rivian overestimated range numbers and compare miles added. You bias everything in favor of max pack... Kyle is doing this right, max is still not worth the additional cost. Maybe at 180kwh pack size it would have been.

      Yep, watched that as well. I think people with the Max pack are really struggling why they paid 7-10k more for 10-20miles extra range and less performance. Mark my words, less than a year from now that will be the standard "large" pack. I wager Samsung will switch to the better chemistry for production and won't want to run an older line if they can eek out a little more performance from a minor chemistry change. Whether or not Rivian will charge more for this is still TBD.
      Personally I'm waiting to see what they announce about this new battery/wiring redesign. Maybe they'll include NACS with the wiring redo as well. I really despise wiring adapters - both for safety and for sheer annoyance. If NACS is standard, stop making CCS and move on... don't live on old tech.

    So it took just under 2 hours to charge from about 100 to 369 of range - about 269 miles of range added to the truck? So roughly 2 hours charging to get 4 hours of highway range? I understand that if you only charge to 80% the charge time is less but you will have more time with getting off/on the highway and to the dispensary with more charges. Most reviewers tend to omit the off/on time of getting off the highway, to the charger and then back on the highway where they started which can easily be 10-15-20 minutes not including the time at the charger.

    • @MotorsportUnplugged
      @MotorsportUnplugged  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From 100 miles of range to Full, it's more like 1.5 hours. But really, nobody but a fool would actually do that (and yes, there are many fools out there lol), like the 99th percent literally would take 1/3rd of that time span. Also a 100 mile reserve, roughly 30%, is quite large and would significantly hurt one's charging speed because lower down is where it charges faster. I can understand the temptation to start with such a significant safety buffer, but I'm sure pretty quickly any EV owner would learn what chargers to trust and how far away a backup option might be and start shaving that down a lot. All that being said, maybe your constituion is better than mine but my bladder just wouldn't last 4 hours :-P, 2-3 hours between brief 15-20m stops sounds more like it.

    • @markmonroe7330
      @markmonroe7330 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MotorsportUnplugged It would take longer than 15-20 minutes just to get off the freeway to the station and then back onto the freeway. You then add the actual charging time. So the actual time off-highway, charge and then literally back onto the highway where you left off would be 40-60 minutes for 2-3 hours of drive time assuming you get a good powerful fast charger.

    The larger pack must stay cooler during fast charging than the smaller battery pack.

    Mileage, especially alleged charging-MPH, is not as useful as kw info because I drive too fast for all these Dad-spec Rivian range tests.
