This is the single most important interview of Hubbard. I bargained for a copy from the Granada TV archives in 1987. Over the decades, I've played it to many former members and watched as their perception of Hubbard changed - he had a first and a third wife, but 'no second wife'. He had no bank accounts in Switzerland, but one bank account in Switzerland. He pauses when asked about his belief in reincarnation, but readily admits that his followers believe. When I first spoke to the documentary's maker, Charlie Nairn, some years ago, he told me that before the camera rolled, Hubbard candidly admitted that Scientology is a scam. Asked why he'd created it, he said he liked to be able to tell his wife at the end of every day that they'd made another ten thousand dollars, but that most of all he like to catch the clever ones and reel them in. Like any malevolent ten-year-old. This documentary has probably done more good than any other piece of work on Scientology (including my own) and Charlie Nairn deserves plaudits, medals and prizes for filming it. My gratitude to Mark Bunker for making it more accessible in this sparkling new form. Thanks!
Of course scam artist supreme Old Mother Hubbard denied it but people heard him say "You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion."
@@jonatack7693 thanks so much, Jon! I’ve been thrilled to be able to present this online for the past 25 years and now technology has brought some new life into it.
Top one's look ok but not the bottom arch for sure. All that $ and you cant see a fricken dentist once a year or so? Probably scared a dentist would tell of his whereabouts as he was always running from the law & process servers.
This is the only doc or newsreel where Hubbard actually plays along & talks to the media. See, he hated courts and taxes of any kind so he lived life on a boat & set up a religion based on a book he wrote but it was all an exercise in tax evasion. It's clever but he grew mad in the end & ultimately was the victim of his own demise. He was the ultimate confidence man. Looks wise, he's a cross between Walter Matthau & LBJ. Very much in need of a lower arch dental cleaning but I speculate he was very sus of dentists giving out his whereabouts. He did have the $ though to bring one onto the ship, so....? Don't know.
I think that right underneath the Cult leader is always an inner circle that's in on the scam that perpetuates it on more victims, how much they are brainwashed vs. In 'control', has always been my question....fascinating topic overall.

Mr. Hubbard was no fan of the dentist it seems.
As a former lifelong member of Jehovah's Witnesses, I am constantly amazed at the many similarities between these two cults.
amazing thank you Mark
Great job!
Thank u Mark
We can see his rotten teeth in full detail now! 😂

Such great work, Mark! I had only seen bits and pieces of this. Thanks so much!
I love this narrator. Excellent takedown of this criminal organization 😂
His teeth are awesome
Great piece!! Keep ‘em coming. 💖💖
Loving these restorations Mark! Thank you.
My first wife's dead.....creepy smile
Excellent. Hubbard comes across like a bit like a calmer, more devious-obsessed Trump.
And smarter too, which is scary to think about.
@@blackanarchicreacts Maybe - Trump's pretty darn smart too.
This is SO interesting! What a master chef of word salad!!!

Did he say he’s been married twice and the next sentence say “he didn’t have a second wife”?? lol 😂 he got caught up lying about his wives
No, you just misunderstand, you just don't have the truth of the matter. 😂
The Master

@blackanarchicreacts yes! Resident evil 4 for ps2 was the best!
He must have never seen a dentist, past his navy years.
I love you so much
How is it that l Ron can constantly lie and members cover up, ignore etc. all of it. Such lost souls.

Mark do we have any idea who some of the Sea Org members are in this piece?
