    There is a drawback of this Puppet Stayman when the responder has 4-4 major suits and the bidding goes like 1NT-2♣-2♦-2♥-2NT-3♥, the 1NT opener will be the dummy.
    What about the version I'm using? After 1NT-2♣-2♦(either minimal or maximum), the responder bids:
    2♥ shows a 4-card spade suit; then the opener bids 2♠(minimal), 3♠(maximum) with 4-card spade support;
    2♠ shows a 4-card heart suit; then the opener bids 3♥(minimal), 4♥(maximum) with 4-card heart support;
    3♦ shows 4-4 major suits;
    3♥/3♠ is Smolen convention showing 5-4 or 4-5 major suit, game forcing.

      Hi, yes there are many different conventions and garbage stayman is also another one that players use. This is one example to learn the puppet stayman bidding sequence. It is up to players to decide which alternatives they prefer and as you have explained very well - others are used. Good luck with your bridge.

      But what's wrong with responder being declarer? Obviously playing strong nt this may be of some importance - however playing acol declarer's and dummy's are likely of equal value. Similarly the use of transfers is of no real benefit playing the acol system.

    Hello Jane!
    Do you have a bebinners’ cheat sheet for 5. card major? I really liked the one for ACOL on NZBridge site.

      No, but there is a preset system card for Nesting Pairs. You will find them on the Cambridge Bridge Club website www.cambridge.bridge-club.org/ If you go under the Education links to the right of the home page - choose nesting pairs - and there are two system cards to view and amend/use at the end of that introductory page. One is where the strong 2D options only are used, and the other for when the full Multi 2D is used and Muiderberg 2s.
