The best thing about these videos/trips is that they feel real. Not 5mins of "built that, burned down that, were there" etc. I love how you show all the bits and pieces regarding all the potential issues and time losses.
Greetings from Latvia!
Lets see a dirty D22 thrown into the mix. Id love to see a proper p-plater spec edition
Love this one, now put 35's on both of them and do it again
Jocko can finally reach 100 KMs an hour now in the Luxy
Nice, German Point Rd camp spot. that is a great location.
In 10 business days 😂😂
Where did you camp at?
Looked good?
@@user-zo8cv2wi4n ???
I gotta say, with the content all round and variety of places, camping and hard 4wding. Really bringing this channel to another level.
Love seeing the caravans and cooking, then next these two bouncing the banta back and forth.
Really look forward to every ep.
Reduction gears are definitely the way to go. I wheel a 1973 Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer, and it tops a meek 90 bhp, but the low range gears make it hugely capable.
Don’t forget to include the outtakes guys makes for golden material always keeps ya watching till the end. Jocko always does the best ones, maybe Graeme’s close 2nd
Wouldn’t be a Jocko trip without a window smash😂
So awesome to see Carl from boosted and built garage!! What a legend for helping out
The look on your face Jock, feel for you mate, lucky you have bloody good mates there helping out
Great episode, love seeing Daryl and the Pony out on the tracks again. I'm a little bit confused about the turbo setup. I was thinking turbos require ecu upgrades to work don't they? Then I thought oh it's a diesel and I have no clue at that point how it works. Still good to see the luxy finally have more power then a Toyota 1.3L Yaris. Must be so much better on the highway.
Was wondering the same.. more fuel to match the air?
There are no computers in that hilux, just a few relays. It has a mechanical injection pump and just needs a slight adjustment on the fuel screw. And while it has similar HP to a yaris its got a bit more torque
Another fun ep with B1 and B2 keep it up boys !!
Jessie's sly dig about the reduction gears
"I put them in because you don't like the way I drive"
keep up the great content guys. it's refreshing to watch something positive in a time like this, thanks boys 😃
35:50 I've never actually seen Jocko look this frustrated before LOL.
You should get a boost compensating pump to get the most out of that turbo setup Jocko
I'd say its necessary to get any power gains out of it
33's look so small on Darrell after seeing 35's it's kinda comical 😂 awesome video looking forward to the next
You know, for the amount of electrical fires you've had on the show, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a battery disconnect switches like they use in racing. And do an episode showing how to install it. That way it's a easy as popping the hood or open a door and turn the knob and it's all done.
That stainless steal washer was on no.1, you could see the sealing contact surface on the nozzle(the clean ring), if you didn't look, it would still be in tye head
My favourite episode in a while. Great work guys
That is why you have fuses. Fuses tell you something is wrong. Love your shows. Keep up the good work!!!
Out of all the things I've done to various vehicles, what's made the biggest difference was reduction gears. I have a 20 year old truck with an engine that's never been opened or replaced, and I'm getting 300+ miles per tank (not counting the 5.5 gallons of reserve). Not the best, but 4.56 reduction gears with 33s going thru the mountains in my area, 300 miles isn't bad
Jocko and Jesse, you guys are great together... I wish my wife and I had chemistry like you two!
Gotta love Amayama for the parts diagrams and information, let alone parts. Such a great site.
Jock and Jesse needs to attend Motor Trend's Ultimate Adventure. Would also love to see Fred Williams and Dave Chapelle do the Tele Track.
Isolator on the ground circuit to battery and a positive battery main fuse setup will sort you our after this my man. 250a for starter and 30a and 50a for accessories etc. Anything pulls over she blows. Isolator on ground circuit for the added convenience. Looks like you sorted it out though but. Let's go !
As long as the radio still works, your golden. Lol. I'm glad everyone is safe.
Thanks for giving me inspiration to work on my rig! 👍 another great video boys!
Love seeing Daryl and the pony together. And keen to see how the turbo goes.
Excellent adventure, thanks! The hilux seems like it is not spooling that hard, did you fit an injector pump with a boost compensator? The factory non-electronic 2.4 turbo (2LT) pumps have a compensator that ramps up the fuel proportional to boost, similar to the 80 series system. Turning up the fuel on a non turbo pump, and/or adding bigger injectors may not be as effective as a proper compensator to get maximum boost power. If it has throttle blades then best to remove them and epoxy over the shaft holes so that it gets full air all the time. Some of them had blades in the throttle body to help with emissions, and that contributed to head overheating and cracking problems
Yeah I also was wondering what they would do about fueling. Without more fuel power gains from the turbo are slim to none. But I didn't hear a single word about it
Most aftermarket kit instructions say to wind the fuel screw in half a turn. They only run 6-7psi.
I have a 2nd gen 4runner with the 2lt (I think "II" engine) - what's the easiest way to find out if it has throttle blades?
What about the boost compensator on the injection pump? You are going to run an NA pump on a turbo application? Your fueling will be all over the place, too rich down low, not enough up top. You need a compensated pump to match those new injectors!
Big win with the electrical. Had my BMW e30 melt down from some ac wires almost caught fire. What a bummer. But at least you guys got it back on the track. Always gotta watch putting big fuses on a fuse that keeps popping. There's always a reason. Love Ya guys keep it up.
awesome content as always.thanks for sharing and taking us along.
Haven't finished watching obviously, but I bet you forgot to put the isolator ring on the glowplug lead that bolts on the intake manifold. So its basically shorting straight to the block soon as u turn the key.
Edit: yep.. ah well, you live and learn. Also Jocko, make sure you put a flexy joint on the exhaust where it goes behind the transfer, thank me later.
X2 on the flex joint you will be constantly cracking the exhaust.
Jesse is great for this show 👍. Paint the GU the same as Daryl🤙😁
Yes jayden my local 4wd singing champion what a legend
I could smell that electrical burn, crazy, quick thinking, well done.
Awesome vid, thanks for the share 🕶🤙👍
Would definitely choose Daryl with the reduction gears but love the work
Pony and Darryl should hit the cape
So bummed with the 33s on the gq, should have went 35s on the lux ! And go 37s on the gq show us how to do some guard chopping 😆💪🏻
That's why I have an isolation switch on my battery, I suggest you do the same
I’ve been watching you for 3 years
Those trucks can't ever retire. Lol. What awesome builds.
Maybe some bar work around those 1/4 windows 🤣
Hey from Canada boys great job and ya, Darrel has got to be one of the best trucks ever built for it to hold up to Jesse's driving but I will say jockos Toyota is looking nice
GQs are weapon of 4wds all times.
No broken studs geez I live in the wrong climate. We celebrate if one comes out. Got to love the rust belt
Wow Jessy sure knows how to drive!!
My brothers' Hilux had the same issue when he bought it, the previous owner had a 'mate' that changed his glow plugs out, and then proceeded to put the hot rail back on the powers the glow plugs, he inadvertantly pushed the hot rail on the glow plugs on to the top cover of the engine. It melted the whole loom from the relay to the glow plugs. Almost caused a fire too.
We pulled the hot rail out of the way and replaced the wire with some new wire and an external relay and fixed it up. Started first pop.
Jockos got a fair bit of tail to fool with lol you casanova
I was just at the Wattos a while ago there is a tower of rocks on the tree on the look out, no one better top ‘em over
Right, jocko, in a weeks time I’ll ask you if you fixed the fitting for the air compressor, you said you’d get it done mate 🤣
I thought the pony had auto lokka from 4wdsystems front and back
Adding a turbo without a modified fuelling system ie a turbo'd vehicle's pump is a bit counter productive. The more air weakens the mixture so the fuelling is off, As diesels work on more fuel to the same air (as a NA (Normally Aspirated) as the engine was) the pump now needs to supply extra fuel to allow for the additional air. Unless this has been done, the engine will sag on higher revs. Also as a note, to drive properly, you don't use high revs so the turbo is actually a lot of use unless the engine is designed for a turbo. Most low power NA engines aren't suitable for turbocharging either as don't have all the necessary cooling jets and extra oil ports that turbo engiens have. So, just adding a turbo will normally kill the NA engine if it's not designed to accomodate a turbo. Better off tweaking the pump and leaving NA.
Toyota did turbo this engine! The hiace 4wd vans came with a factory turbo in some models
i'm gunna have to invest in pony tail light stock... good drivin' guys, looks fun
Jeez Jock and Jess that’s probably the best place that wiring issue could have happened.
You too remind me of when I was younger and me. And my friends used to do this to our daily drivers.
Great stuff
Those Kuhmo MT71 tyres are great on the tracks. Highly recommend them. Great video guys.
Compound twin turbo is the go!
Mods and tough tracks. Perfect video.
Good to see Jesse getting more comfortable behind the camera
Put them both on 35s and try again 😂
I had the same thing happen with my 92 hilux surf, was so sketchy but it burned into the cab, took weeks to fix
Your puppy is sooooo cute :)
Know exactly happened! Had the same thing happen to my Hilux, the rail for the glow plugs is touching and caused the wiring to burn.
"New South Waleszehzehs tracks" 😂😂
Good old Joof MacDonald
So jock you’ve had the tail apart to do injectors just curious did you put the little insulator back in in the buzz bar the right way ?
“Best 4wd I’ve ever droven.” 😂 Best thing. Good gear.
Love to my local area.
Great episode
The pony's electrical issue is the perfect example of why you shouldn't buy used old cars if you can afford not to. You never know what the previous owner(s) did or fitted to that vehicle before you. Even if you inspect it properly before buying, there is always the chance that you miss something such that's not so easy to spot with a simple inspection. If that electrical issue occurred while the bonnet was down and with no tools nearby, it would probably have burnt out the vehicle and possibly endangered your life, the life of bystanders or cause serious damage to property.
Also a good example of why you should have your aftermarket accessories fitted by a trusted professional if it involves messing with any of your factory wiring. If it doesn't come with a pre-made loom, then get a qualified auto electrician to hook it up for you.
9:27 just keep an eye on that, a mate of mine had a issue with a silicon pipe like that, what would happen is when it warmed up and heat soaked when you gave it the berries the pipe would suck itself closed and starve the engine of air.
Ah yes another candidate for some Lucus replacement wiring harness smoke!
With you doing ab on your heifers are you going to need to get that many replacements out of your m/a cows? Having a surplus of grass is a good thing. Growth is pretty sluggish here in mid Canterbury
put some Maxxis Big horn MT 308 tires got em on my old patrol, real weapons off road
4:00 Holy shit, that was an unexpected crossover.
I didn't know Jockco knew Carl, from Boosted built garage (BBG)
I'm curious if the turbo was oiled up before the first startup.
The Doughnut (presumably from Donut media) sticker on the dash in the hilux is also unexpected.
donut and 4wd 24/7 did a video together its on donut media's channel
Jocko should be nicknamed "The Hulk" because he smashes everything... 🤪
P.s. In my best Samuel L Jackson voice "Say What Again"! lol
wow very interesting experience friend
You have a secondary problem with your wiring. A fuse should blow before the insulation fails. Either the wrong size fuse is in use or no fuse in use. When a fuse blows, never install a larger fuse. Fix the problem causing the fuse to blow.
Always a good day when a vid comes out
Fire extinguishers are always a great safety feature. However, unless you rip that positive terminal off, it ain't stopping an electrical fire! 😢
the turbo is an awesome mod on the pony, I might need some reduction gears in my GQ now....
Oh, what I'd have is a 300tdi Defender with EDC, auto box and ABS/TC, oh, hang on, it's all on the vehicel or on the bench ready to fit...
Boys it's time to piss the swags off and get yourselves into a stretcher tent. You've just fitted tyres to your steelies because we don't run wooden wheels anymore. Embrace the future 😂
Those Khumos are very gripy . I run the MT51 👍
At least it happened in the shed that’s rare that shit always happens out on the track so that’s a positive joko
Waiting for the n70 build update !
Holy smokes Batman that’s some black oil😂
The GQ indoor garden 😂. Usually they have a garden in the gutters
You might want to consider a battery isolator switch in the cab and one in the engine bay. Imagine that electrical fire started when you were on the trails and all your tools were packed away
Probably not a bad idea, however he said he kept blowing fuses but didn't sort out the root cause and just kept replacing them. Likely, the wires have had insulation damage and been burning for some time.
@@gus1332 that’s true. I watched that part 10 hours ago now so I might be remembering wrong, but it sounded like he said he started using a bigger fuse which isn’t a safe long term fix
this shows how good daryl is better then the pony... tb42 does not need glow plugs, nor a turbo to beat the pony... turbos are nice, simplicity is better.
Sorry to see that happen... 😮😮😮😮😮that must shake your balls bro .. once everyone is safe that's most important 💯
You gotta keep the smoke inside the wires
JEEZ JOCK I BET YOUR GLAD THAT GRAHAM AN SHAUNO AREN'T ON THAT TRIP THE SHIT THEY WOULDA GIVEN YA OVER BOTH WINDOWS AN THE TAIL LIGHT JUST ON ONE TRACK DAM NOW WISH THEY WERE BOTH THERE NOW LMAO
May be the isolator on the glow circuit insulator
I actually avoid turbo charged at all costs. The added horsepower is not worth the added maintenance.
With your dirty bag. Can it go on a rear tyre with a cowling? (Prado)
Nice driving there Jess
Jesse is the goat
Jacko cheated this competition with putting 33s on instead of 35s, and Jessie still out drove him!
Mighty GQ 🤙
