Van Tour | L300 Campervan | 3 Bedroom Campervan |

  • After almost 2 years of painstaking labor on our DIY campervan, we have a van tour update of our still unfinished but highly functional home on wheels. Our 2012 L300 campervan was originally designed for person on a wheelchair, but he died without ever using it. It had been custom-built with a high roof and side door at the box--perfect for a campervan! This was the condition when we bought it.
    Fast forward, it is now a 3 bedroom campervan with most of the comforts of home.

      @@rhodoravalenzuela5405 We mostly camp in campgrounds or resorts that have bathrooms and showers, but we also have a portable collapsible toilet from Naturehike where we can do #1 and if needed, #2 (that has not happened yet). Our collapsible toilet is lined with biodegradable trash bag for easy disposal. We can also add cocopeat to the bag to absorb the odors.We also have a small camping shovel in case we are in a remote area and we have to bury the evidence, hehe. Our DIY outdoor shower is now operational so we can shower anytime basta may tubig (watch out for it in a future video).

    Interior design is so nice. I like that you have managed to use all of the spaces of the van . ❤️

    • @filamstagram
      @filamstagram  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much. We're happy to know that. In such a small living space such as this, every cubic inch has to serve a purpose. Our more recent videos posted after this, we have since added a roof rack, an awning, a gravity-fed water system, and soon a shower--all of which were designed to optimize the use of space.

      Glad you liked it!! It takes so much effort to keep it clean when you have a lot of stuff. At the beach we have to sweep several times a day to keep sand out.

    • @filamstagram
      @filamstagram  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you.😁It's challenging with a messy kid who tends to occupy all the place inside. Beach sand is especially hard to manage so we have sweep sevetal times a day--which isn't so bad since it's such a small floor area.

      Dati ko rin pong pangarap yan. Di ko alam, pangarap din pala ng mister ko. Never namin napag-usapan noon until may malaking trahedyang dumating sa buhay namin. My 2nd pregnancy was super high risk. One day, on bed rest, may nakita akong photos ng vanlife. Pinakita ko sa asawa ko. Dun namin narealize na pareho pala naming pangarap yun. Then we lost our baby. While mourning our loss, habang nakaconfine ako sa ospital, nakakita ulit kami ng vanlife photos. Narealize namin, maikli lang ang buhay, you never know how much more time you have to pursue your dreams. Ito na yung chance namin, and we took it. We built this van in honor of our second daughter.

      Thank you, ka-eltri! These L300s are built to last, and very reliable in transporting cargo for long distances. Then because they are everywhere, you can easily get spare parts and mechanics are familiar with L3 repairs everywhere you go in the Philippines. Those reasons are why we chose to buy an L300 to convert into a campervan. Ours is actually a custom high roof build that used a 2012 cab and chassis. So technically the front is 11 years old, but the body is turning 3 years old.

      @filamstagram  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great to see you enjoyed our video. That would be ideal, in most other vans they have the option to replace the seats in front with swiveling seats that can face backwards when not traveling. However, the L300 FB is basically a driver's cab and the body is structurally a completely separate unit, and the engine is right under the driver's seat and the middle seat. There is also a 3-inch gap between the body and the cab, which will take a lot of material to close off. Besides, we are very tall people who would rather just use the doors for access.

    • @filamstagram
      @filamstagram  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! Vanlife is relatively new here in the Philippines so it is not easy to find actual campsites that have water and electricity hookups, proper sewage disposal, etc. Campsites have sprung up everywhere since the pandemic restrictions had eased up a bit, though most charge a reasonable fee for basic necessities, to more expensive glamping packages. We just search for campsites at Google maps, look for them on Facebook to see what reviews they have, and see if they suit our needs. If they allow car campers (more popular here), they should have no problem accepting campervans. There is also a brand new car camping/vanlife app here created by a local camping enthusiast that helps campers book campsites.

    • @filamstagram
      @filamstagram  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The cargo area is not factory stock because the box was custom fabricated with a higher roof that can allow a 5'8" person like me to stand up inside without ducking. Such a high roof L300 is rare--I have seen only 4 others so far. The cargo area was created by putting a windbreaker on top of the driver's cab and opened up the wall from the box to the windbreaker.

    Question: Is there any Upgrades regarding the Suspensions, undercarriage❓
    Do you have Solar Power Supply❓

    • @filamstagram
      @filamstagram  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello. Very good questions. The original owner we bought the van from had the entire body fabricated and custom built as a PWD vehicle with a very heavy wheelchair ramp we had to remove. The undercarriage looks different (a lot more fortified) from the usual L300, so it seems that there were upgrades even before we bought it. The suspensions have held up for almost 2 years but may need maintenance. Instead of solar, we have a DIY leisure battery system, which is basically a 2nd car battery that charges through the van's alternator when the engine is running. An automatic split charge relay switch allows charging only when the voltage on the main van battery is fully charged, to prevent the 2nd battery from pulling charge from the first battery. The 2nd battery is connected to a 3000W pure sine wave inverter for our electronic devices. The advantages of a leisure battery over solar is that you can park in the shade--with solar you'll have to park in the sun unless your panels are portable. Secondly, it costs half the price of an entire solar setup. You can check out our videos where we explain how the system works and how we installed it.

      Thanks for your question. Right now we use it both as a personal vehicle and travel accommodation. But we have experienced living in it for 5 months in my parents' garage while we paused building--because we needed to figure out the logistics of tiny space living and tweak our design as needed. The plan is to live in it while traveling full time when our build is complete.

      Hello. There are very few full-time vanlifers here. Because it is still a novel concept, there are no laws against it as far as we know. For staying overnight in public places, the issue would be safety. When not at a campsite, many opt to get permission from the local authorities to stay in front of their building overnight (Barangay Hall). Do get in touch with us if you do come here, we can show you around.

      @filamstagram  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent point maam. Weight can be a real issue, that is why planning the build is important. Not only of the structures and furnitures, but also the total weight of passengers. You have to start with a van that is fuel efficient and is built to carry that much weight. This is why we chose the L300-- because it is widely used as a cargo vehicle for businesses hauling goods all over the country because it is economical. Originally custom built as a PWD van with a very heavy wheelchair ramp, ours was specially fabricated with supports underneath. Then the materials should be as lightweight but strong as possible. But in the long run, the extra diesel consumed still pays off considering how much we save having our own accommodations while on the road. We have gone off grid for weeks na food and fuel lang ginastos--you can't do that at hotels or AirBnBs. Campsites also typically cost less than AirBnBs. For us, money spent traveling is a well-spent investment as long as we are able to work online remotely. Most people spend a fortune driving or riding public transport to work and paying rent or mortgage on houses. That's still more than what we spend as vanlifers on a daily basis. Although to be honest, when the diesel was about to hit P100 per liter, umaray din kami.

Pwede naman isara yung curtains for privacy if there are a lot of people around. We have dual aircon but we don't use it because we have thick insulation on our walls, ceiling, and floor that keeps the inside cool even on hot days. We can now wash clothes in our sink and hang it up to dry outdoors or, if we need to drive with the laundry not yet dry, we just hang them inside the van on our curtain rods (they dry more in the wind when we are driving--spin dry! Hehe.) Most of the time though we wash clothes wherever we fill up our water containers because we don't want to use up too much of our supply nor leave the campsite muddy.
