These two trips to Georgia and our objective to be the first people ski down mt. Ushba (4694m) in the georgian Caucasus range has probably been the strongest experience in my life as a Freeskier! We failed, but got to experience an amazing country and culture with Alaska like (or better) skiing! Huge thanks to Sam Anthamatten & The North Face for giving me this opportunity, and of course thanks to Guido Perrini, Leo Slemett, Luca Rolli and everyone involved. This is a cut I've made randomly a few years ago for the sake of doing it.

I am a Russian alpinist, skier and mountain guide, and I am well acquainted with this legendary peak and I want to express my respect for your ambitious plan! In 1989, I climbed South Ushba along the North-West Face and then traversed the mountain through the North Summit and then descended the route along which you climbed and planned to descend on skis. I, too, for many years (in the 80s and 90s) was fond of steep skiing and also skied on hard slopes up to 55, of course not at your exceptionally high level, but much slower, in the style of Pierre Tardivelle and other pioneers of steep skiing in the Alps. We went to Ushba at the end of August, and then the whole route was completely blue ice, therefore we rappelled down all the way, so I didn't even have a thought about ever going down there on skis. I wish you the best of luck with your new projects!
