I really have to say, watching this series has made me so happy that we ended up getting the Doki Doki Panic reskin as Super Mario Bros. 2 instead of this game. Between these cruel warp points that punish exploration and some of the incredibly stupid level designs, this game really does not seem very good at all. At times, it seems like I was watching a poorly-made ROM hack of SMB1 rather than an officially released game.
Yeah, I think I've been letting my feelings about this game come to the surface for the last few videos now. Nintendo made mistakes back in 1986 that a lot of other fledgling hackers have made since by not understanding the difference between genuine and artificial difficulty. W5 and W6 are when the game is at its most enjoyable for me. I wanted more of that when I was playing this.
Well I mean, the Lost Levels are fun and all - but I agree with you that it's not quite worthy of being called "Super Mario Bros. 2", mostly because it's a rehash, and also because it can be so unfair.
I'm not sure I agree with all that. I think the idea was that the Japanese are better at these sorts of games, so this game was for those who were bored with the ease of the first game.
I noticed for some of these SNES Mario videos from more than 10 years ago, parts of the sounds like the pipe sound and the power up sounds would only be partial.
That's on me. Nowadays, I know to raise the audio bit rate up to at least 192 kbps when recording. In these older ones, I'm pretty sure it's only at 64 kbps, and that causes some audio oddities.
Depends if you use S+Q (All-Stars exclusive) or not in which case use the one in A-3, then Save and Quit in World C, next go back 1 lvl. to B-4 (you'll have to slow down near the flag-pole so that you don't get sprite overload) Edit: I think Save and Quit (S+Q) works the same way on the Deluxe/GBC/1999 version
1:45 Actually, if you do it right, I think Super Mario (or Super Luigi), can run and duck under without falling in the lava. To make sure, I think you'd have to break bricks first.
Honestly I think this works better because you don’t just get complete choice of skipping 1-4 worlds, you have to work to get the further warps. Bigger risk, bigger reward.
You don't necessarily have to be small to reach the World 4 Warp Zone. You can run and duck through the gaps to reach the other side. I've actually done it many times myself.

Undoubtedly Lost Levels is a quite hard game,but I’ve always prefer to play all levels,to have the chance once finished the game to replay randomly every level whenever I want.

In the original version, Worlds A through D were played on their own run separate from Worlds 1 through 8, accessible by holding A when starting a new game, so a D-4 to 1-1 warp wouldn't make sense. D-4 to A-1 (Or 8-4 to 1-1) would be more accurate.
It's a case of sprite overload. It can happen on the SNES cartridge or disc if you're playing the Wii version. Thankfully, most of those springboard glitches were fixed from the original Famicom version, but some still made it through like A-3's did here.
I gave it a quick look after you published it, yes. World 9's gone if you take the warps, but it looks like you're trying to just beat the game, so good luck in World 8. It's rough.

Reaching a bad warp zone is the reason I use save states whilst playing the lost levels

That's correct. I recorded that last part after beating the game, and it locks you out of W9 from the file.

Otherwise, the warpzone can take you to Minus World.
I'm surprised there's no Warp Zone in Worlds B, C, or D that take you back to World A.

Every guide I've seen lists the eleven that were all covered here. But if you know the specific example that's missing, let me know!

You forgot the backwarp from World 6 to World 3
Can't show what doesn't exist. There is a split path in 6-1, but both lead to the goal. The rest of the stages are straightforward.
