I made my first ever flight with Mark as a cadet - WD390 Chipmunk at RAF Finningley in the early 90s (9 AEF). It was the beginning of a passion and flying career, and I shall forever be grateful to Mark for lighting that fire... I remember that flight as if it were yesterday..

I saw 2 Strikemasters just last weekend at the Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow in New Zealand. Had never seen them in the air, one was ex RNZAF, the other ex Saudi air force.

Many AA systems are set up for aerial targets with a higher delivery speed range. The STRIKEMASTERs had a slower speed when laying down iron bombs or CBUs and many users of the BAC 167 got home because the bad guys were expecting something much faster.

I was down the Falklands at Port Stanley ( 23 Sqn ) with this gent and his navigator Flt Lt Poisdon who I believe died some time later. You don't seem to have the moustache anymore or the blond hair !! I still remember the last 23 Sqn flight of this gent .... Wow !!

I remember spending a whole week on nights for a cadet camp late 70s Church Fenton on the flight line! Awesome, and best camp ever. Strapping pilots in, attaching external power units. marshaling out onto taxiway.

At about 23:00 Rolls Royce: We knew the engine might flame out if flown inverted!
Nice... His friend would have liked to have known that!
It's little technical information like that, that flight crews really like to know about before attempting acrobatics with airplanes!

Top work Mike, you need to butter Mark up and see if he'll take you for a spin or crowdfund the cost of your seat? That'd be a brilliant video, ride along with commentary/questions. Hopefully Mark will display at RIAT this year

That would be awesome but I am sure there are a few people ahead of me for that! One day I hope to manage a fast jet trip:)

I would have asked him if he had ever seen the Cdn Snowbirds and how he compares his aircraft and routine with the Tutors. Would have been interesting to hear what he thinks about pilots in a similar plane.

Did my Air Maintenance training on the Strike.
At 10:34 over his left shoulder you can see a panel with a white round circle on it - I had to get my upper
body in there - then turn 180 degrees around and do the cables which were right in front of your eyes - then not drop
your tools. I had trouble getting in there , but we had a guy who was a body builder and for him it was truly a nightmare. For me my hassle was trying to
get down on the cockpit floor to do maintenance on the rudder pedals...arrgh. Although that was somewhat alleviated by the lovely female
avionics tech doing her checks at the same time. Saw another guy absolutely drill himself in the forehead by walking into the elevator trailing edge.
Some of the guys could crawl up the exhaust pipe - I didn't try that cause I knew I would get stuck.
Oh yeah - you couldn't eject out of it if it was inverted -which one of our maintenance instructors found out on a check flight - the pilot apparently
kissed the ground when they got back. The Blunty fleet was eventually all retired because of cracks in the wing spars.

There are some in the US; one is in western Texas and is further east in Texas at a RAF memorial training base that was used to train RAF flying personnel in US-made combat aircraft and trainers. I think the US registration code on one Jet Provost was N707X, IIRC.

Were these just trainers? I remember the Strikemasters flying around all through the 80s and a bit in the early nineties? Also remember the ex RNZAF Skyhawks, which by the way are still kicking F-16s, F-18s, and now F-15 ass as part of Draken Internationals adversary squadrons training up and coming USAF pilots... Helen Clark your a mutt!!! Thanks for making us defenceless...🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿

The Strikemaster is basically an armed Jet Provest trainer, intended for light attack/ close air support roles. Was exported to many countries around the world, particularly Oman, Saudi Arabia and New Zealand.

Defence? From what? Where’s the threat? Good on you Helen Clark for dumping that useless waste of money. Maritime patrol SAR is what they need, not a strike wing,

@@Fartsmucker1The A-4KAHU was an excellent choice for the RNZAF. The electronics was was perfect with the APG-66 giving the A-4 KAHU SKYHAWK good A-A and A-G with good antishipping capabilities. Excellent navaids as well. Wired for guided weapons, especially EO and laser-guided weapons.
