Since the centrifuge that filters the donated fish oil is run on free turbine power, all you're paying for is the small amount of fuel thinner plus the diesel consumed starting up the beast each time. It's genius, sir! You've built yourself a self-deploying emergency power station that runs for next to nothing. 👍🏼

Watching you use that jointer, so casually, reminded me of a job interview 50 years ago, for the position of a wood machinist. The MD welcomed me, sat me down and asked me to put my hands on the table! Having complied with this simple request he stated that you've got the job. Start Monday 😅! As I was leaving, having only performed this ritual, I tried to him quizzically and with temerity asked! "Hands on the table! No questions"! How does that work. His reply was brilliant 🤣 "Simple", he replied, if you've got all your fingers, you're no wood machinist and if you've lost more than one, you're unemployable. 6 months later I joined the board as a director and used the same ploy! Memories are funny aren't they! Love watching your Heath Robinson approach and all that you achieve Marty! 👍👌

In general I really like this kind of Restoration/Upcycling/Repairing content. Also interesting how there is a pretty big spectrum between making it work and some channels going the extra miles of making it look like it was never touched. Very different mindsets that all have their place!
I often think that some 3D printed parts would make some things a lot "nicer" until I realize that this is just the Nerd/Visual part in me speaking and it probably wouldn't do much for the functionality, especially with the effort of measuring and modeling.

Well done Marty. My personal recods on veg oil were running my '97 VW van at 160kph/100mph at -25C on straight waste veg oil on the Munich ringroad. I also managed a 4000mile road trip while using only 15 litres of diesel, having left home with all my fuel for the trip!. It was one of 5 vehicles I've run on veg over the years. It had a 120 litre aux tank heated by the engines coolant, a heat exchanger and heated filter system. Automated thermostatic switch over valves. Only thing you had to do was press a button 1km before the end of your journey to run the purge cycle. Unfortunatley due to French bueracracy, Brexit, modern fuell injection systems (possible on veg but a PITA) and one too many questions form Customs officiers I no longer run Veg in any vehicles :(

Marty, you could build an alternator welder for your tractor, and still be able to use the 5k output of the generator. The modified alternator could run on the second sheave of the pulley, and depending on the alternator output, could weld very nicely. 160-180 amps would definitely give you nice welds, particularly if you have a need away from the farm. Of course, you could mount this under the bonnet of your ute, as well.

Thanks again Mart for another scintillating video, i'm watching you from the Philippines, where it is extremely warm every day. Never mind, i'll crack another cold one, LoL. Back on July 2. Bob..

Marty, how about a wood gas generator since you are surrounded by trees? You can also use the heat produced for hot water or space heating!

couple brush covers and a bigger vege tank/fuel valve switchover and you'll have a sweet self contained mobile genny..maybe make the big diesel tank vege and the small vege tank for diesel?

Would also be awesome to have a 2HP+ steam engine with wood fired boiler...this would be a truly off the grid apocalypse rig.

Well done Marty. I did notice the difference in belt tensions-compressor vs the generator. Wonder if there's a bit of loss there? Just an observation. God bless.
At this pace Genesis, Mercury and Meridian Energy are going to have a newly recognized competitor-at least a sub station for half the island: *"M.T. Power"*

I believe another pulley on a lever with a spring to provide tension on the slack side of the belt would address that nicely.

Good project - I kept thinking that some type of cover over what doesn't look like an outdoor RCD or socket might be a good idea. Maybe cut up a plastic or metal oil container and wedge it over the top or just extend out the flat section above. Maybe a hinged flap that folds out over the socket for the occasional shower not to cause any problems.

Marty, your video is brilliant, you had me cringing at one stage! Never put your thumb behind timber over the surface plainer it's so dangerous, I have seen a lot happen that way use a push stick, my son in my workshop lost all his finger prints when a the wood was propelled backwards off the plainer and his hand drops, lucky for him just the finger prints were removed. Be safe! John

Ouch, yes I'm always petty careful not to lean on the wood when planing

Man, you cannot beat a deal like that, free fuel, generator, and a dedicated power source to run the generator. Very nice job of bringing the generator back to life, it has some good service years left as well as the tractor. Fun video to watch, thanks for taking the time to post it.
