Mount Maunganui, widely known as 'The Mount', is located across the harbour from Tauranga.
Mount Maunganui surf beach on one side is popular with surfers and swimmers with local surf life saving nz patrols during the busy summer months. On the other side of The Mount is Pilot Bay, a sheltered harbour that is also popular with swimmers.
Mauao the mountain stands proudly overlooking Mount Maunganui. Standing 232m above sea level Mauao means ‘caught be the dawn’.
