    What is your choice of goggle for swimming in open water?

      I have a set of tyr mirrored goggles for sunny days, a set of tyr goggles with transition lenses that adapt from clear to smoke depending on the amount of sunlight, and a set of tyr goggles with smoke lenses.

      Arena Cobra Ultra or Speed Socket 2.0.
      No large frame goggles or masks. 1. They are hideous.
      2. More surface area for another swimmer to kick.

    Don't forget prescription goggles, I am blind as a bat, but with -7.5 goggles, I can actually see pretty well, a must for sighting. Cheers

      Ha! I just ordered my first pair! SO glad to hear positive feedback. At $55/pair, it's still cheaper than spending $20/pair on goggles that keep not fitting...

    I've been swimming for more than 20 yrs. I like the smaller goggles. I fact my favorite goggles is also over 20 yrs old. I just change the rubber strap.

    • @Alex-kr7zr

      @@brianfosterkinsale4403 they probably don't have one. There are some tricks to get antifog when the coating is gone. I'm experimenting with toothpaste at the moment (works, but the toothpaste residue gets caught up in the sharp corners of the goggles). Might try baby shampoo next.

      For me, the Speedo Vanquishers have been awesome. I've also been trying out some "TYR corrective optical" with a little bit larger eye cups, and they've been great. Both need good anti-fog spray, but work great.

    Looking on here as not been windsurfing in bad shore break and got hammered with very short wave sets yesterday and salt water in eyes resulting in me clearing water off face every 10 seconds and so ended up with sore sunburnt nose after 4 hours , nose skin as all peeled off day after, hoping goggles will help 🤓

    I like clear in pools and open water. I’d rather have a little glare but still get lots of light than have things tinted.

    • @Alex-kr7zr
      @Alex-kr7zr ปีที่แล้ว

      +1 for clear in the pool and for cloudy days. However, in the summer at noon you'd really destroy your eyes quickly. So dark tinted ones for bright sunny days.

    Agree with all advice given - spot on. I use Huub aphotic for races but they are expensive so use something else for training- as you say it’s what fits that counts. Wonder if shops are allowing try before buy in the current situation?

    Have a question: slim and small goggles - are they less likely to be ripped off by other swimmers in triathlon (accidentally, of course) than big and bulky ones?
    Should I switch for a smaller model for a race specifically because of that reason? Or goggles accidents are rare?

  • @tonypapandrea1360

    I have purchased some expensive goggles for racing that are supposedly anti fog only to have them fog up on me during OWS. I proceeded to use a little Spit anti fog to prevent the fogging, but it seems that the Spit may have caused the goggles to become permanently clouded. Do you know if using an anti fog spray has the potential to damage the coating on “anti fog” goggles? Do so called “anti fog “ goggles actually work? They haven’t for me! Thank you!

    • @simedinson984
      @simedinson984 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't basically all have a anti fog and most likely the antifog compound is a hydrophobic coating/surface and thereby making water condensation less favourable. this should not be affected by spit alone but with some rubbing or the wrong kind of antifog you might ruin that coating/surface

    • @univision1489

      In my long experience with swimming, goggles fog a certain time during the session but you have to patient and they will be clear again in few seconds , 1 minute at most

      I bet you have them now and therefore an opinion of your own. Mine broke though, the sidepiece came of at the glued joint. Luckily while entering the water and not out on the open sea.. The manufacturer were great at sending me a new pair though but those ended up staying in the drawer. Maybe I'll use them in the pool one day.

      I absolutely loved Swedish goggles when I swam competitively. I am nervous to use them in open water as I do get hit across the face (especially at the start) and they have 0 padding. You do not have issues with them open water?

    • @nicholasdargus401
      @nicholasdargus401 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ETP eh. From my competitive swimming years, it’s not so bad if you get hit in the face. I think it would feel about the same even with padded ones. And I had one instance where one swimmer went out of his way to kick me directly in the face because I was trying to pass him and he was being a jerk.
