    This is a very lucky moment for America. The French actually beating the British at sea and landing an army at Yorktown was amazing

    By early 1781 the War Ministry in London admitted that the prolongation of War in the Thirteen Colonies was untenable, when they had to divert forces to other theatre's. The Dutch were paralyzed by 1781 by Admiral Parker defeating their fleet at Dogger Bank in Oct 1781, after the engagement the Dutch Navy never left port for the remainder of the war. After the Surrender at Yorktown in Sep 1781, the French suffered a Naval defeat at the Battle of Ushant in Dec 1781, a reversal against a Navy that ill afford the losses. In April 1782 when Admiral Rodney engaged Admiral De Grasse at the Battle of the Saintes the Franco-Spanish Naval supremacy was broken in the Americas. The Great Siege of Gibraltar 1783 was a foregone conclusion, the continuation of the war was fruitless.

    In the UK the Revolutionary War is the war fought with France from 1792-1802 or the War of the First, Second and Third Coalition. The war from 1775-1783 is called the American War of Independence.

    Ce qui est formidable avec les anglais c'est qu'ils trouvent toujours des excuses pour une défaite et des circonstances glorieuses pour une victoire;
    Je fais remarquer à ce"spécialiste"que les troupes britanniques ont évité SOIGNEUSEMENT d'affronter la grande armée de Napoléon pendant presque toute son épopée sauf en peu un Espagne puis à Waterloo face à des troupes françaises désormais désorganisées et avec l'appui des prussiens auxquels d'ailleurs ils n'ont même pas laissé un peu de reconnaissance!!!!!!!!!

      Oui d'ailleurs l'Angleterre a aussi gagné la seconde guerre Mondiale à elle toute seule? Si si, Tu ne le savais pas? Et bien je te l'apprends, en tout cas lorsque tu les entends parler, c'est ce que l'on pourrais penser.
      Evidement ils ont le chics pour s'approprié les victoire des autres, Waterloo est la victoire d'une coalition et non pas une victoire Anglaise seulement.

      Bigger doesn't mean stronger. You have a more powerful military, but not a more powerful navy. Also, we're close behind each other in both. This still doesn't say who would win if we went to war, but most experts say Britain.

      The Royal Navy has more tonnage than nearly all of Europe combined.
      France has two horizon frigates whereas the Royal Navy has six Type 45 destroyers. The Royal Navy has two carriers whereas the French only have one. UK always has an aircraft carrier available but France will get attacked when its only carrier is in refit.

    Spain and France were working together building a strong navy even before the revolutionary war to defeat Britain. So these ships were the result of that alliance.

    • @SergioRPerez

      @Michael Cristian That is correct. Spain is not mentioned even though Spain invested a lot of money trying to get control of the Golf of Mexico and make weak Britain.

    the French had the best ships by far but the French didn't have the money to build as man ships see England paid pirates to take Spanish and other ships and so the English didn't have to spend money to get money they just layed back and gathered money but the French had the better ships it was just England had more ships and a better crew who were very disabled

    No, the French Navy was not better, this was one victory. British ships adopted copper plating, meaning they grew no weed and were far more manoeuvrable, and the men were well fed and practised gunnery to the point they could fire much faster than the French and Spanish navies:
    " the British rate of fire and endurance surprised them at Trafalgar.
    Lieutenant Gicquel des Touches of Intrèpide wrote of broadsides which ‘succeeded each other without relaxation’, and prisoners told the crew of the Victory that ‘the Devil loaded the guns for it was impossible for men to load and fire as quick as we did’.2"

      @@zzebowa bruh the French revolution literally decapitated the French navy, their officers were killed by the revolutionaries or fled and after that almost all resources were diverted to the army for 15 years straight before the battle of Trafalgar even happened. The navy Napoleon build for that battle was just one last desperate attempt to dislodge the British, there was nothing special about beating it lol.
      The French navy that fought at Chesapeake and the one at Trafalgar were literally incomparable.
