    Probably the only time in NHL history when a guy scored his team's 11th goal in a game and it was: 1) an important goal, and 2) worthy of a celebration.

    The leafs would go on to defeat the Blackhawks in 3 straight in the playoffs then lose in 7 in the second round to the blue's, and the blue's would lose to the flames in 7 and the flames would lose the Stanley cup finals to the habs what great memories

    The Oilers in the 80’s had to score a lot of goals because they gave up so many at their end.

      They might have been the only team in history that won Stanley Cups by pretty much only relying on offense.

      @@JeffTheLeafsFan that’s somewhat of a fallacy. They were always at least in the top 10 in least goals allowed. Certainly not near the defensive brilliance of the 76-79 Canadiens or 80-83 Oilers, but they were more than competent. Still, their offense stood out above everything else.

    Man, the goalies in the 80's just sucked.

    • @JeffTheLeafsFan
      @JeffTheLeafsFan  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So much of it was because of the equipment though. The equipment was heavy, especially when it got wet. And it would have less padding in order not to weigh a ton, so it covered less net, and goalies were covered in bruises. It really wasn't until the late 80's and early 90's when equipment got bulkier, lighter, and didn't absorb water because it was made out of synthetics. That's when goalies started covering the bottom part of the net more.

    I remember coming back from a college party to my room. I turn on the TV and our local station would have a running ticker going on all the hockey boxscores that evening. It would literally be typed across the screen. When it began they showed Edmonton - 9 since they were the visiting team and I thought, "Oh of course they did." Then followed with Toronto - 11 and I went "Whaaaaaattt!"

      It was a pretty wild game. Lol. The one star player missing from this game is the greatest Leafs defenceman of all time Borje Salming, he was out with an injury. I would have liked to see him involved in a wild game like this, but then again it might not have gone this way with him in the lineup.

    Love this era of hockey. Goalies were not butterfly sofa wearing generic robots. It was about speed, skating, passion...unpredictable...the rivalries were intense. you didnt get many of those 1-0, 0-0, 2-1 snoozefests like what happened post 1995
