I know! There is nothing that could have convinced me to get up for a 5 am start before going to a full day of school and then another activity after school. Add in time to do homework and I would have been falling asleep in class every day.

I feel like Dorian Grey is a book where you finish it and just go ‘damn’. It’s so perfect and you’ll think about it all the time. But it’s not necessarily something you want to rave about.

I studied Dorian Gray in a gender and sexuality class. Let me tell you how much that books changes when you view it under the lens of repressed homosexuality. Also, reading the footnotes about the original text changes the meaning of the book so much. The penguin black spine classic has the original lines which I think are integral to the theme.
Dorian Gray is one of my all time favorite books!! i genuinely didn’t know there were people that read it without seeing the blatant repressed homosexuality. So crazy! i bet that class was so interesting!

No matter how often I watch Gilmore Girls, my favorite character is always Paris. I love her character as is, but also her character progression is done so well.

2) I read Dorian Gray earlier this year and the vibes are immaculate.
Yay for Liam!!! My older brother played ice hockey here in California and his primary practice was Friday night from 10:00-midnight. Then they did other ice time and conditioning. I would just sit in the parking lot with the other siblings and cause mischief. I love that his team hangs together. That is the cutest!!!
i think i personally love the picture of dorian gray so much not only for the themes and ideas that the book brings up, but also how beautifully everything was written. most likely because oscar wilde was known as the father of the aesthetic movement- making art simply for the sake of it being/ looking pretty and i love that idea so much. every description of the flowers, clothing, expensive items, painting, even when it was long winded, was so enjoyable for me to read and felt like i was in the room with the characters. so so glad you read this book!!
Commenting after the closet scramble: The Woman in the White is the ultimate thriller. It kept me on my heels! Definitely a must read. And then The Island of Doctor Moreau is the creepiest perfect fall read. And I just read Dracula and it was gripping. A creepy October classics video would these on your TBR pile would do very well I think and you'd enjoy the reads immensely.
I felt like the September House was a fantastic allegory for domestic abuse. Housing it from others until it gets out of hand, treating it almost like a friend, acknowledging the cycle, and just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I loved it.

I stumbled across a paperback of The Pumpkin Spice Cafe this afternoon after watching this video. I took it as a sign and started reading it!
I was surprised to find it without looking after Kayla had a hard time finding anything other than the Ebook.
I am totally buying the Pumpkin Spice Cafe on my Kobo! It looks so adorable. I wish I could have a physical copy just as decor on my shelves though lol
hearing you talk about how you tipically enjoy when characters don't react how you'd normally react when horrifying things happen in books makes me wonder if you'd like Yorgos Lanthimos's movies

If you want a better version of Pumpkin Spice Cafe, try Pumpkin Everything. Small town vibes, fall in New England, reconnected lovers, family vibes, low stakes, and just so wholesome. Hallmark made it into a movie too! (Oh and no sex scenes)
Not gonna lie you broke my heart when you said you weren't into Luke and Lorelai as a couple for all of Gilmore Girls 😂 But totally agree that the Jackson stuff was bad and it should be talked about more in the fandom!

I love that for Liam! When I was his age, I got up with exactly zero extra minutes for anything except breakfast and throwing myself together because I despised mornings. Even in my 30s, I yearn to be that morning girlie who is productive, but instead I just sit and stare at my phone for at least an hour until I feel human haha

i just finished 'every exquisite thing' by laura steven - which is a sapphic YA dorian gray retelling that just came out. *mind you i am NOT a YA girlie or a retelling girlie, like at all*. absolutely loved it. would highly recommend !!

I love the designs for those Penguin classics editions (cloth bound and paperback), the designer Coralie Bickford Smith reads the book and picks an element of the story for the cover. The Dracula one is cool, the pattern is garlic flowers!

Hey! Im very excited for Liam and don't want to rain on your parade, but be cautious and pay attention to how Liam is treated by his teammates and coaches. I played hockey at a AAA level and it got very very toxic. So toxic that it has had a lasting impact on my self-esteem and made me withdraw from the Olympic path.
Just pay attention to how much he gets played vs. how much the other kids get played (especially the coache's kids). Also be aware that a lot of the times there's a lot of bs politics going on within the parent/coach circle that can get some kids benched by no fault of their own.
Im really sorry that that was so grim, but I don't want Liam to go through the same thing I did!

I grew up watching Gilmore Girls, and I have very similar thoughts and feelings as you. As a teenager I was "team Rory," but as an adult I realized... she kinda sucks haha. A slight rewind though, I stopped watching GG as it was originally airing I think some time in season 6 or 7, because I just wasn't enjoying it as much. Sure I own all 7 seasons of GG on DVD, but I honestly only ever rewatch seasons 1-3. Sometimes I'll skip around in season 4, but that's kinda it.
Ohhhh I know EXACTLY what you're talking about with Jackson, and. I having nothing nice to say about him or that messed up storyline. I'll also throw in that I never really liked where they took Lanes storyline, especially with Zack.

Oh my gosh! We have the same pop socket, except I broken mine recently and I couldn’t find the same one again 😫. Also, suggestion for reading when it’s darker, switch the kindle app to dark mode. It’s much better for reading when it’s darker which I do all the time lol

It's funny because I also just started my first rewatch of Gilmore Girls the other day after not having watched it for like 5+ years. I watched it for the first time with my Mom the year I graduated high school and it feels so weird to me because I'm probably the age Rory is towards the end of the series now.
I tried to get Pumpkin Spice Cafe and Blackwell had it for $11.24 (shipped to US and it came in 12 days) (Now Amazon has it for around $20.) I had to get 5 other books from them because I can't read ebooks eye/headache problems. Happy Reading! 📚📚

I did think the same thing about Luke and Lorelai when you first mentioned Gilmore Girls so when you said Luke was all different and their vibes got weird I felt very seen. I haven't watched since the new season came out, which was very awful and I like to pretend it doesn't exist, so I don't remember how Jackson behaves but I think I'm ready to rewatch the original seasons again soon.

The original Dorian Gray was made for a magazine and was shorter, Wilde added to it for the book publication. Sadly both the magazine and book were censored; I recommend reading The Uncensored Picture of Dorian Gray!

I read it Last spooky season after years of being intimidated by it (which is weird because I generally enjoy classics) and I LOVED it. It’s much more accessible to a modern audience than it may seem…in case you were looking for another classic to read any time soon. 😁
