this is the scene where you see why Matt Reeves casted Pattinson. He instantly flips, and you see a tiny bit of Bruce Wayne rise to the surface, "I never thought i'd feel fear like that again". Its so subtle.

This was the moment that sealed the deal for me.
That Robert Pattinson wasn't just a great Batman, but a phenomenal Bruce Wayne.
That vulnerability, that scared child that hid behind a mask, the man who could only share his true self with Alfred.
Probably the best scene in the film.

This scene spoke volumes to me. After Bruce confronts Alfred over Thomas Wayne’s “mistake” that got him and Martha killed, when Alfred admits that though he wasn’t equipped for it, he tried to be the father Bruce needed. And Bruce emotionally breaking from the fear he was feeling since his parents’ death, to lose Alfred who was the only family he had left. The performances of Robert Pattinson and Andy Serkis as well as Michael Giacchino’s music score was so powerful that it left me feeling emotional. And when they held hands, I knew this was the starting point of their trusting father-son relationship as it is in the comics. I hope to see more of that develop in sequels.

There’s even a similarity between “The Batman” and “Batman: Arkham Origins.” Both stories showcased a Batman early in their career who believed their crusade of vengeance against the criminal element of Gotham was the one priority and that opening up was a sign of weakness, but it took almost losing Alfred for Bruce to finally understand that letting people is what’ll benefit him into becoming the Dark Knight.

I wasn't feeling 100% the first time I saw this, so some of the emotional scenes didn't hit the way they should've.
However, I've seen it twice since then, and you can totally buy Alfred's heartbreak. You know he feels like he let Bruce down I some capacities.
Same thing at the end of his first scene, when he looks at the scared little boy through the lens cam.
I felt all he saw was young Bruce, and he understands where that kind of pain can lead to... anger, vengeance, a lost young man.

Oddly, I also found on my second viewing many scenes especially this one had so much more weight to it. Hearing Bruce so vulnerable in this scene and opening up to Alfred was acted out so well by them. I'm watching it for the 4th time tomorrow night. No shame, getting my Batman theater fill as much as I can.

    • @jimbodiced5979
      @jimbodiced5979 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

I love how Bruce literally has to develope a "bedside manner" in this film.
Even in his crime fighting. Yes, he still saves people, but he never gets too close.
Even the guy he saves from the gang at the beginning. Batman just looks at him after... doesn't bother to ask if he's ok, or give him a helping hand up off the wet ground.
Same with his interactions with Alfred: Zero bedside manner.
The second the poor man wakes up, Bruce is dumping on him for withholding truths about his parents.
He is truly blinded, and he can't see beyond his own pain.
But we see that transformation at the end, and it was well done.

“I don’t get it. It’s just a bunch of chords. There’s no theme.”
What were you expecting - A Wonder woman theme or a Van Halen type solo? Orchestral music is definitely gonna have chords lol. And there’s literally a lot of leitmotifs scattered all around the soundtrack.

@@sagniksengupta3212 that's a lame point. Haven't you ever disliked a song or a movie? Have you done that after having composed a better song or filmed a better movie? No. There's a little thing called critical thinking. Try it.

@@jamescorriveau7267 I'm not preventing anyone from enjoying it. I'm just asking. Plus, writing a chord progression requires literally zero skills, and minimum music theory, but that is not the point.
Can you film a better movie than Whedon's JL? I doubt it, but that doesn't prevent you from realizing it's trash.

Choosing Andy Serkis as Alfred is a terrible miscast, but not as bad as hiring Michael Giacchino to write a Batman score.
