  • Join me today as I take on something a little different. My Neighbour asked me to install a 2" lift kit (40mm) on his Nissan X Trail. I have installed these types of lifts before, But this one was a bit challenging for at home. So...If you don't have the tools required.....You make something to work. Enjoy the video, and hope it helps anyone wanting to tackle this job! Thanks for Watching!

    Pretty Cool way to hold the coil spring without a spring compressor! 👍

    That's when good neighbours become good friends. Appreciate you sharing this project. Well executed, inspite of the tech issues. I may be relocating to West coast Canada and hoping to grab a boxy late model T31 there (circa 2010-2013. Not sure they were released there though. Guessing you won't know much if based in the US 🤔

      Thanks, Glad this video is helping people!! I decided to post it because of the lack of info that I could find on this vehicle. I am based out of Canada "near" the West Coast of Vancouver , so we are really limited on the other models released for sure! A lot of the body and electronics I have seen were the similar between the shared models of other areas, but the engine/drivetrain/suspension definitely could be/were different. When I was sourcing the lift kit for this X Trail, European models had different suspensions which if mixed up would end up in the wrong lift kit ordered.

    Very informative video, thanks.
    Im planning on installing similar lift kits on my 2005 xtrail t30, but still thinking of the risk for the cv joint and related parts, please advise 🙏

    • @builtbybo22
      @builtbybo22  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can get away with the 30mm or 40mm spacers and the suspension/CV axle geometry is still acceptable. Anything more would NOT be beneficial without stepping up into a specialized lift (Big $$ if available) Drop down brackets would be used to lower all the suspension mounting points, in order to keep the geometry correct.

    Put 3 hockey pucks for body lift each corner also

    • @builtbybo22
      @builtbybo22  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This SUV is a Uni-body, vehicle. The body is not separate from the frame, therefore a body lift is not possible. I used hockey pucks once when I was younger, Got pulled over and Vehicle Safety impounded the truck because of the hockey puck Body lift.

    Did you use any camber-adjustment-bolts or is the stance unchanged?
    There are also few lift-kits starting at 40mm for the T30 that do use the original bolts, so no removal of original studs and no welding necessary. Little bit more expensive, but easier to do.

    • @builtbybo22
      @builtbybo22  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The camber 100% changes positive when lifting an independent suspension. Some struts have slotted mounting holes allowing for some camber adjustment, but this application for me did not, and I used the camber adjusting bolts to get the camber back in a better spot. If you don't adjust the camber, then it would still drive but it would wear out the edges of the tires. If you for a found a 40mm kit that is easier to install then thats awesome, I personally have not seen a kit that would use the stock bolts, Hardware etc. Not really sure how they would pull that off, but i'm sure there is some clever way. Share the link here if you want, Im sure it may benefit other people. Thanks for Watching!

    great I'm going to do the same thing but I would like to know what tire size can we put with this system?
    215/70r16 or 215/80r16. ?

    • @builtbybo22
      @builtbybo22  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depending on tire width preference, there are many different options. Definitely a couple sizes bigger then stock. This truck is running a 235/70/16

    If you would like to know how we mod X-trails in Australia check out RuggedLife ,
    he has lots of tips to mod and how to do it too as well as how to drive your T-30/31 off road.
    Also in Aust we would replace the springs with King or Old Man Emu springs that give 40mm lift and a extra
    50kg (110lb) front 100kg (220lb) rear carrying capacity.
    Tyre size and type 215/65R 16 best all round tyre is Yokohama Geolandar A/T GO15 these work in the rain snow or mud and great off road.
    Hope that helps,
    cheers from down under.

    Które lepsze rozwiązanie na tył
    Twoje czy lepiej użyć podkładek pod same sprężyny

    • @builtbybo22
      @builtbybo22  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Podkładki dystansowe, które pokazałem, są znacznie lepsze w użyciu niż zwykłe podkładki! Podkładki nie zapewniałyby wystarczającego pokrycia powierzchni dla mocowania sprężynowego i szybko ulegałyby awarii. #BuiltByBo

    Would i need to do anything extra if i wanna fit some 50mm spacers ? Would you recommend me to use 40mm or 50mm ?

    • @builtbybo22
      @builtbybo22  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      40mm is the most I would personally go with the stock suspension. Anymore height would cause way to much static tension on the geometry of the parts!

    aine and they were broke after 3 months. How's yours now?

    • @builtbybo22

      Hello, Zero problems with the spacers thus far. I've used this type of material in many other builds and never had an issue either.

    Do we need to change the spring coil? While we replace the shock absorber only on this thing.
    I love this video...

    • @builtbybo22
      @builtbybo22  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To replace the shock absorber (Strut) the spring has to come off the strut but does not have to be replaced.

    • @builtbybo22
      @builtbybo22  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The new tie rods were because they were worn out and had play. Nothing to do with the lift kit install.

      I would personally go to a tire shop, and have the mock up a tire for you. I would say a 29” tall tire would be about max.

    I found 50 mm spacers

    • @builtbybo22

      50mm is an awesome find, But the suspension geometry can only take so much spacer before components start to bind.
