In advance of the concert he took time out to talk to the Bath Royal about getting back on stage after Covid (and his fears that the pandemic is far from finished with us); how he kept himself busy during lockdown by immersing himself in the science of Covid and watching Scandinavian Noir crime dramas; why he does not like poetry; and his feelings about Jethro Tull being perceived as a “Prog Rock” act (a label now embraced by the band in their current ‘Prog Years’ tour).
Jethro Tull have been performing for 54 years and have recorded numerous hit albums including Aqualung, Thick As A Brick, Songs from the Wood, Living in the Past and Stormwatch.
Anderson’s unique songwriting abilities and musical virtuosity have made him a national treasure (even at age 74 he still adopts his trademark one-legged stance while playing the flute on stage).
"Jethro Tull: The Prog Years" at The Forum, Bath, on September 17th. Tickets here: www.bathforum.co.uk

Mr. Anderson, like so many in the entertainment industry, especially musicians, has always displayed that he has a pensive side or nature. Reflected in his lyrics and overall intelligence. In America, we do protect the private health records and status of our citizens, so it is not necessarily feasible or desirable to go about asking another's condition or whether or not they have a compromised immune system. We do maintain and insist that our citizens take the matter up with their personal physicians regarding this worldwide pandemic. It is a slow but rapidly changing process in determining so-called 'hot spots,' so a risk/benefit approach is encouraged. Good to see Mr. Anderson!

In the 2021 documentary _Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain_ , Bourdain and friends are shooting arrows at the LP cover of Stand Up.
Maybe you can forward this to Ian.

I have been a big Tull fan from way back. Had the pleasure of seeing them preform live in Lincoln NE in early 70s. Most of lyrics I don't have a problem with...except Acqua Lung. The phrase "sitting on a park bench watching all the little panties run...hope I have those right..makes me think of a pedophile...not just a dirty old man. Am I wrong? Please comment and let me know. Used to sing along with that song until I thought about the lyrics. I'm still a big Tull fan. Ian is wonderful. I really enjoyed this interview. Thank you.

If only most of the herd really knew about this covid propaganda business, they would be out in the streets protesting along with hip or " in the know" so to speak other protesters. Most people swallow the narrative of the fear mongering corrupt corporate media. This also pertains to the Ukraine issues as well. Outside of that ...much respect for Ian as a well talented musician who also inspired me to pick up the flute.

This pandemic is a terrible time. I hope Ian is very careful because he knows and can express well the risks, and he still needs to get out there and play. I'd say don't do it Ian. Really appreciate the new album.

So as it turns out, Ian Anderson is not quite Eric Clapton-or maybe I should say Eric Clapton is not quite Ian Anderson (informed, reasonable, responsible).

Iain talks a lot of sense in this interview regarding the pandemic yet he continues to tour and in my view puts audiences at a finite risk.

Is HE putting THEM at "risk"? Are people REQUIRED to go to his concert?
Sounds to me like people are willing to accept the extremely minimal "risk" of randomly catching this slightly above harmless virus that only 99%+ of people survive with no problems instead. I feel your accusation is deeply flawed and misplaced.
      God bless.

But that is how he makes his living by touring to promote ticket sales and sell their songs. Must be hard to watch the money disappear when concerts are cancelled.

@@normsky1000 Yes absolutely there is always some risk even travelling to a gig, there is a risk of being involved in a car accident but we always wear a seatbelt to negate the risk. But we always travel to gigs, I could get knocked down on the zebra crossing on the way to the box office to buy tickets beyond my control, but we can all be decent human beings and do what we can get vaccinated and wear a proper mask but at the end of the day life goes on and we can do what we can.

I used to think this man was a genius until I saw his recent interview about Ukraine. He is sorry for this invasion of their sovereign territory. What an idiot. I guess he never knew that Donesk, Lugannsk, Odessa, and Crimea (the so called "separatist" republics were a part of the former USSR and Nikita Kruschev tried to integrate these Russian speaking republics with the western republics under Ukraine decades ago. The so called "separatist" regions still speak Russian, have always considered themselves Russian, and have wanted to rejoin the Russian Federation, especially after the CIA orchestrated a coup and installed a west friendly oligarch and depopulate the region and turn it over to be raped and destroyed by corporate agribusiness. When the neo Nazi government that the US helped install started talking about cleansing Ukraine of Russians, they rebelled and the media has called them "separatist" since. There is actually some truth in that. Having lost at least 30 million people the last time Nazis started threatening them, they chose not to be a part of scum bag Neo Nazis. So the bums and cowards in Ukrainian military thought it was fun to bomb and lob artillery shells into civilian areas. They had been asking Russia to intervene to protect them from this ongoing genocidal carnage and finally Russia obliged. So Ian Anderson calls that an 'invasion" when it would be more accurately described as a rescue and liberation mission, People are fleeing the violence, not their Russian liberators, you dumbasses. Ian Anderson should have known better. Of course, comments are turned off so nobody can enlighten him with a little truth. I am stunned that he proved to be so gullible. After the dust settles, the western republics will remain part of Ukraine, the Russian speaking Eastern republics will be either independent ot under the Russian Federation. Either way, they will never be slaughtered in indiscriminate bombings like the one that occurred in Lugansk in 2014. 8 innocent people filmed dying in the aftermath. 5 women and 3 men. Now if they try a stunt like that an anti aircraft missile from an SA-3 or SA-4 will blow those scumbags out of the sky, or a hypersonic cruise missile will destroy any artillery batallions that the neo Nazi scum like to sneak up on the "separatist" cities and terrorize innocent Russian speaking civilians. They can sleep safely at night now. Be happy for them. Question the corporate mainstream media fairytales, and realize there are 2 sides to every story.
