My mum told me, cooking is like plucking! Some people love the act of actually plucking their eyebrows, some people want it done quickly with wax, others just want to be told when it's all over and enjoy the results!
Molly... I am a 57 year old man, so when I say "I Love You", I hope you know it is a paternal feeling. I love to cook, but I am also fully sighted - I watched this video twice trying to better understand what you were feeling and doing... I still can't comprehend your life!! Thank you so much for attempting to educate me!!!
Tip for cutting onions: place a wet towel or paper towel in front of (or next to) the onion on the counter top and the onion will seek out the closest wet object (usually your eyes) which is now this wet towel right next to it. Prevents watery eyes and stinging!
It should also be noted that meal kits are incredible when you're feeling overwhelmed and anxious. Literally the only reason I get three decent dinners in my body during the week!
Molly, don’t beat yourself up. I’m legally blind and terrified to cook. I usually am my mom’s sous chef. You should collab with Christina Ha once the pandemic is gone.
The beautiful way your Mum gently encourages and supports you through the difficult parts and celebrates your successes is incredible. I'm a new Mum so a baby with retinopathy of prematurity and I hope I can support my son in that way too💙
Aw Molly, you breaking down in tears broke my heart. You are amazing, we support and love you. You’re also capable of ANYTHING you set your mind to, you’re probably one of the strongest women on the Internet. Love you Molly ❤️
About the apron: you can raise the waistline by folding the fabric and creating like a little poutch. Also, you can bring the ties around your waist and make a bow in the front instead of the back. 🤗
i tried to describe this in a different comment and did really poorly so i'm glad i found your comment that is much more helpful!! Great minds think alike and one is able to describe their thoughts haha
I'm a sighted 33 year old woman and I hate cooking with a passion. Kudos to you for doing something outside your comfort zone! Cooking is hard for a lot of people, even with sight!
I feel you so much on the living up to expectations as a woman. I'm disabled physically. I am lucky that I am able to walk but I'm in pain constantly. I have grip issues. I have joint issues. I get injured easily. I struggle really badly with keeping the house clean. It takes me 4x longer than normal people. I get tired easily and have to stop. I have found myself sitting on the floor crying many times because I feel like I should be able to go the laundry and clean the house on the same day without having to stop to lay down or take medicine. It can really destroy your confidence. I do my best. Thank you for sharing your struggle. It helps me to not feel so alone. Though I hate that anyone has to go through it.
Oh Molly, seeing you so frustrated and crying made me cry! You deserve to never feel bad, but the source of your frustration is completely valid, and your point about how we have to face our hardships for growth is such great advice. Love you so much, girl!!!💜💜💜
"A WEEK!" Had me absolutely rolling. Sometimes cooking reduces me to tears too even though I'm sighted, I rage quit and had to take an angry nap after I messed up making a tarte a few years ago.
When you started crying, it really resonated with me. I have very severe anxiety to the point where I get panic attacks and become overwhelmed with everyday tasks. I'm 23 and I've just started to practice driving because I'm so afraid of it. When I drove a few days ago, I started to cry 3 separate times because it just feels so difficult for me when I think it should feel normal to other people. It's hard to see everyone else just be able to do things I can't and to be able to do them so easily.
I am so happy you shared this experience with us. The struggle of doing something you don’t like it hard enough without the extra challenge you have. Thank you for being honest and real with us.
I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability. I’m not blind, but I’m physically disabled, and I understand how it is to get upset from feeling like you can’t do something because of your disability. I hate when the disabled try to put on this front like it’s all good, and they just “overcome their disability.”
I am so proud of you for trying to do this. You are not afraid to try anything. There are plenty of women who aren't blind that can't cook. You are amazing!!! Big hugs and blessings.
When she cried i sobbed Molly please don't do things that make you feel more disabled or bad about yourself Do things that make you feel empowered!!! You are a beautiful, kind, STRONG, INDEPENDANT woman who's running her own business and just so happens to be blind. I'm a sightie and I am not NEARLY as amazing as you nor will I ever be. WE LOVE YOU!!
I think it's important to push ourselves to do things that make us uncomfortable, it's how we grow and learn! As I said, I don't subscribe to gender roles and I STILL feel the societal pressure to cook. I think this video is important to show other people that if they also dont like to or can't cook, it's okay and they aren't alone, disabled or not!
i began crying seeing how upset you were, let me tell you i have perfect eyesight and i can’t cook AT ALL. i order food or go out to eat almost every night because i don’t know my way around the kitchen whatsoever. please never feel about yourself, you’ve accomplished so much in your life and have given so many people hope and inspiration! you are AMAZING ❤️
It would be so amazing if Hello Fresh came out with an APP for the blind or anyone really so they could look and listen to the directions on there instead of only sending the written out cards. That would be a game changer. But also Molly, you did so good! And you didn't give up. Soon you're going to basically be a chef cookin up a storm! You can do it! And even if cooking isn't your thing, that's okay too. You're so good at so many other things. You're a badass! I also saw someone mention using a food processor to cut up onions and other veggies and I I can't believe I didn't think of doing that. I've been struggling with onions this whole time and crying and risking my fingers FOR NOTHING?! lol I'm going to have to try that out too.
You’re such a breath of fresh air. I don’t cry much but I cried along with you in this video. Thank you for being brave enough to show the good, bad and the sad!!
I think it's amazing how you are showing us your most vulnerable Molly 💜 but your doing it in an empowering way, if you know what I mean. I'm not blind, but I really resonated with what you said about something being "small" or "easy", being incredibly hard, challenging or just to much. You reminded me that that's okay 💜
I admire that you found a way in your life where you know what you like and what you don't and choose what you actually do accordingly. That's such a huge step and achievement to know these things about yourself. If cooking is not one of these things and you doing a way around it, then that's amazing.
We ALL have things that we wish we could do, that we think everyone else can do. My 9-year old quadriplegic daughter literally can do nearly nothing. Yet she inspires me and hundreds of others, reminding us of the joy and hope we always have. God bless you! You're an inspiration to over 2 million people!!!
Don't worry Molly, I'm 33 and sighted and cooking, sewing and all domestic tasks overall still make me feel this way! Some have a knack for it and some don't, we've just got to focus on the things we do well!
Whenever i see molly cry i just feel her. I am not blind so i sure can't even imagine how hard it is but i can understand the struggle of not being able to do sth because it happens to me a lot on other things. So molly you are already trying more than you believe you can so that matters more. You are great and you have proved that if you want you can do many things well. But nobody is good at everything. And You can do other things well that not many people can . I just needed to say something positive cause when i see people cry on matters that i have too it is tough and i wanted to give some of my positive energy.
I love you Molly! You are so real, way better than all those "instagram girls doing thing with food". You are honest, transparent and not afraid of showing emotions. Thank you for that, I'm so honored to be on this journey with you.
I haven't even watched the whole video yet and I can't say this enough..... You are a QUEEN. So proud of you for pushing through and doing your best. You gave such an inspiring message at the beginning. Loved it.
I highly recommend a food processor! It makes chopping things super fast and probably much safer if you can't see your sharp tools (or if your sharp tools are dull and require a lot of force to use). They're a pain to clean though so it probably would help to have someone sighted around to check that there's no food stuck anywhere after it's been washed. Also, I would try bread! It's hard to get perfect but also hard to ruin, and it's very tactile! The trickiest part of bread is patience, because it needs to be left for a long time without touching it. As for what kind, I recommend pizza dough, which you can then turn into homemade pizza (which is a fun thing to share both with the process of cooking and with eating)! It's the sort of thing that seems super fancy but is surprisingly simple
For a second (Scrolling through) I thought this was Rosanna Pansino and I was like... "How can you not cook your own meals??" Then I realized it was Molly 😂😂
Molly, you are so inspirational! All that you’ve accomplished and do, while, being blind. You are what helps keep me positive and hopeful in ALL areas of life for my daughter who was born blind. You are NOT defined by being blind and this is your journey. So thank you for making videos and taking us all on the many journey’s in your life. 💕
I understand feeling disabled when you cook. I’m blind and have other problems and cooking always makes me feel more disabled. I’m only 19 but have been cooking since I was 6 so I’m really lucky. It was easy for me to learn accomodations for cooking. Don’t be too hard on yourself molly. It can take years to feel comfortable cooking. You did so well. My eyes are super sensitive to eye makeup. I can’t wear it for the full day.
Wish I could give you a big hug, Molly! You are SO STRONG to cross this road that you know you struggle with and you're filming it for us to see. This is just the beginning, not the end. I know if you really want to be able to do something, you can and you will, and we're all here to support you on your journey! Love you!
14:20 So relatable. You are not alone Molly. I am not blind, however I face this same feeling with my disabilities. It can feel so discouraging like you fail and you are alone in this, but nothing is less true. We all face struggles but we are in this together and we can face our challenges!
When you explained how you feel - I feel just the same with my learning disability for a specific subject. I feel that people that don’t have disabilities will never fully understand. I can comprehend what you are going through Molly. 💜
Also... frozen chopped onions are my go to. (But that might be because I’m not super into cooking, maybe there is a taste issue or something, but they are so easy! (And chopping onions hurts my hands).)
@@louiseglasgow You beat me to it. I do the same. I am sighted but I have super sensitive eyes due to my SPD, so my partner cuts a few onions at the start of every week so I can just grab and use them whenever I need them.
Don't beat yourself up! I know plenty of sighted people who are the worst at making food, so bad that the food has to thrown to the trashbin. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Even tho I can cook, I just can't do makeup. Be gentle to yourself, you are absolutely amazing! ❤️
My fully sighted, former firefighter grandpa almost destroyed their kitchen by throwing raw cucumbers into sizzling oil 😂 and he managed to burn noodles (all the cooking water evaporated)
Awww cute Molly, you're not alone. A huge chunk of the mental health community is soooooo with you. We can't even keep our houses clean....Everyone is doing what they can, that is absolutely fine.
Molly I just have to say that your videos and vulnerability mean so much to me. I'm a blind girl too. I was diagnosed with Stargardt's disease when I was 12 (I'm 26 now) and I felt so alone going through the specific challenges of being young and blind. Before you, I had never seen my story or experiences represented in media. I'm crying along with you because I have felt exactly the feeling you were feeling while trying to cook. It is so painful to navigate life in a body that limits us in some ways and people who don't have any of those limitations can never fully understand the pain of bumping up against those limitations on a daily basis. It becomes such a painful reminder of the giant "no" that the world is constantly telling us, and it requires so much effort and strength to figure out how to turn that "no" into a "yes". Thank you so much for giving me, for the first time in my life, content to watch that represents me.
As a woman, the thing I can relate to is feeling like I can't do something that others can. You are fantastic at makeup and styling and that is something I honestly have no clue where to even start. I wear T-shirts and shorts EVERY single day, not because it is my style, but because I don't know how to put an outfit together. We all have our own personal struggles and it is comforting to know that none of us have every aspect of life figured out.
Do you like to cook? :)

hahaha you're putting to much faith into me, I think!!
Or Nailed It!!
WHATTTT, thank you for this! Trying ASAP
What? 👀 testing this out ASAP. My eyes always sting when cutting them
I always put my onions in the fridge or freezer before I cut them. A cold onion releases less of the chemicals that make you cry.
Cutting them next to the sink while it's running also works! (While filling up a soapy pot or a cleaning bin, not just wasting the water ofc)
Also if you have time peel and freeze for 5 minutes it does help.
It should also be noted that meal kits are incredible when you're feeling overwhelmed and anxious. Literally the only reason I get three decent dinners in my body during the week!
Cue all the Finnish subscribers commenting on her Marimekko apron 🤭❤️ Nice choice, Niamh ✨
Molly, don’t beat yourself up. I’m legally blind and terrified to cook. I usually am my mom’s sous chef. You should collab with Christina Ha once the pandemic is gone.
It was the onion that made her cry
As a Finn I can appreciate the Marimekko apron 😍
And the napkins also at the end 😍🥰
@@elinakatarii yes oh perfect 😍
Yes!!!
And the Arabia Moomin mug in earlier videos! Molly the true devotee of Finnish design 🙏
Yesss! Love to see Finnish design going popular globally 🙌🏻
The beautiful way your Mum gently encourages and supports you through the difficult parts and celebrates your successes is incredible. I'm a new Mum so a baby with retinopathy of prematurity and I hope I can support my son in that way too💙
These are my favorite kind of videos. I love that you show us that even if you are blind you can still do things that everyone else can do❤❤❤
Aw Molly, you breaking down in tears broke my heart.
Thats the only way i wear an apron! All the aprons at my work are one size so i have to tie it real tight
i tried to describe this in a different comment and did really poorly so i'm glad i found your comment that is much more helpful!!
Okay super side note: molly looks so damn cute in this outfit and her hair and makeup. Like everything is on point!!!
Marimekko apron!!! Made my Finnish heart happy
Same 😭❤
Oh Molly, seeing you so frustrated and crying made me cry! You deserve to never feel bad, but the source of your frustration is completely valid, and your point about how we have to face our hardships for growth is such great advice. Love you so much, girl!!!💜💜💜
The aunt flow part had me 😂 if cooking doesn’t work out, stand up comedy is your thing 😀
haha me too i was dying 🤣🤣
If "cocking" doesn't work she can always try cooking again.
It’s always so sad when cocking doesn’t work. At least it cooking goes wrong you can just order a pizza.
@@JB-ez2jz I see what I did there lol
@@inainoslo 🤣🤪😂
"A WEEK!" Had me absolutely rolling. Sometimes cooking reduces me to tears too even though I'm sighted, I rage quit and had to take an angry nap after I messed up making a tarte a few years ago.
Awww please don't cry we love you
When you started crying, it really resonated with me.
Molly: "I'm not a mom"
Lavender: Hey! Wut about me :(
(Edit: Thanks for the likes!👀)
lol
also Lavender : am i a joke to you
Last time I tried to cook, I tried cooking rice, and it was a disaster. 🤣🤣🤣
@@BlueMolly2024 rice cooker my dude
@@BlueMolly2024 i didn't add enough water was a bit dry and maybe raw lol
When she cried i sobbed
Molly please don't do things that make you feel more disabled or bad about yourself
Do things that make you feel empowered!!!
Omg Lavender meowing when Molly explained how cooking was a bit much for her schedule, lmao!!
Yeah she was like " you're welcome! I give you an excuse not to cook!"
YES TO A COLLAB WITH CHRISTINE!! I"ve been a fan of hers since day one!
I'm 26 years old and just learned how magical it is to WEAR GOGGLES while cutting onions. Wish I knew this years ago. Love you Molly!
you can also just put down a wet paper towel!
Thank you for the reminder of challenging yourself and getting outside of the comfort zone.
i’ve been dealing with vision loss and this is very inspirational to me!! thank you molly!
I've never been interested in videos about people cooking from meal kits, but this one actually is interesting!
My name is Robin. I literally jumped out of my chair. 😂😂😂
Not me waiting for “Aunt Flo” to come into the camera view 😂😂😂😂
i was so confused at first but I got it an hour later XD
@@llamawalrushybrid yes you are XD
Your mom talking you through while you were getting emotional was such a sweet moment 🥺
I love how she says Aunt Flo instead of the actual word that it's know by, I was so confused but I thought it was soo cute!
i was so confused at first but I got it an hour later XD
I love you Molly! You are so real, way better than all those "instagram girls doing thing with food". You are honest, transparent and not afraid of showing emotions. Thank you for that, I'm so honored to be on this journey with you.
I love the marimekko apron!! 😍😍
I haven't even watched the whole video yet and I can't say this enough..... You are a QUEEN. So proud of you for pushing through and doing your best. You gave such an inspiring message at the beginning. Loved it.
Molly in such a Queen. We all know we STAN her💗🐝🐝🐝👑👑👑
Molly creeping back into frame after greeting Aunt Flo is an absolute mood and I am more than here for it
I literally do not understand how anyone could grate an onion without like a scuba mask on or something. I think i'd die of dehydration from crying.
ikr i always wear my dad's prescription goggles while cutting onions
I've found wearing contacts I don't cry. If I happen to cut up without contacts (almost never these days) I'm like - why am I crying!
This looks like something I might want to try as a sighted person.
I'm not blind and besides wearing glasses my eyes are ok, but onions are my cryptonite 😆 I cry like 30 minutes after the onion is gone 😆
Chewing gum while chopping onions helps, for some weird reason. I’ve also worn swimming goggles.
If you have contacts, wear them while cooking. For some reason the eyes do not burn at all with contacts in 👀
@@denia1594 that sounds like a great tip, unfortunately contacts make me cry too 👀😆😆 but I'm sure it could be very helpful for some else 👌
You could just put the onion in the multi and let it do all the job.
Same!
Wish I could give you a big hug, Molly! You are SO STRONG to cross this road that you know you struggle with and you're filming it for us to see. This is just the beginning, not the end. I know if you really want to be able to do something, you can and you will, and we're all here to support you on your journey! Love you!
Finally I get to watch a video early again school got out early!
Oh my god Molly, I'm sending all my hugs to you. Thanks for being real.
"It was actually the onion that was making me cry"
SAME GIRL SAME
14:20 So relatable. You are not alone Molly. I am not blind, however I face this same feeling with my disabilities. It can feel so discouraging like you fail and you are alone in this, but nothing is less true. We all face struggles but we are in this together and we can face our challenges!
The look on your dad’s face is priceless 😆 he is adorable 🥰
When you explained how you feel - I feel just the same with my learning disability for a specific subject. I feel that people that don’t have disabilities will never fully understand. I can comprehend what you are going through Molly. 💜
I love how Lavender walks into the camera shot just as you're starting to talk about breakfast. She's all like, have you got any breakfast for me?
As always I appreciate so much that you share some of the very raw and real emotions you experience
Me: *struggling my whole life to cut an onion and dislike cleaning my food processor for my onions*
Molly and Niamh: *grating onions*
Me: 🤯
Also... frozen chopped onions are my go to.
That's hilarious 😂
Awww cute Molly, you're not alone. A huge chunk of the mental health community is soooooo with you. We can't even keep our houses clean....Everyone is doing what they can, that is absolutely fine.
HAHAHA here I am like “well come on Molly, aren’t you going to introduce your Aunt?” HAHHAHA
i was so confused at first but I got it an hour later XD
Leftover dinner for breakfast is honestly the most underrated meal imo
As a woman, the thing I can relate to is feeling like I can't do something that others can. You are fantastic at makeup and styling and that is something I honestly have no clue where to even start. I wear T-shirts and shorts EVERY single day, not because it is my style, but because I don't know how to put an outfit together. We all have our own personal struggles and it is comforting to know that none of us have every aspect of life figured out.
