    Hang in there. Your problems did not come to stay - they came to pass. And they will. It'll be better and you have a great 2022. Farmers are resilient - we have to be with all that tends to come against us. But we persevere.

    I had a neighbor ask me to brush hog a field. I told him to walk the entire 5 acres and clear all he found , then call me to do the job.If I hit or damaged anything that is extra cost to him. Well 10 minuets into the job tire puncture from a piece of survey steak into the rear tractor tire, one day loss and repair cost, the second day into the job the brush mower wrapped a 200’ downed chainlink fence around the blades. 2 hours of cutting out in the field Warhol hand cutters to get it working again then hooking the rest of the fence 10:04 to another tractor and pulling it out. This was to cost the owner 10$ per acre. Instead it cost him . 150$ for damage and extra time and trouble which he did not like. He got off cheap.

    Did you ever consider going to a New Holland Hay bine? We've ran thousands of acers thru our old 489. Slower then disk mowers but much cheaper to maintain...

    • @wannabefarmer6056
      @wannabefarmer6056  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have considered it. Working a full time job I need all the time I can get. That's why I like disk mowers. I really want a discbine. Those cost more though.

      I don't want to maintain a sickle although I will admit... When we cut hay with sickle bar I always thought the hay came out nicer. We only square baled back then.

    Why would you bale that? Goldenrod, also called jimmyweed, is a native, perennial, multi-stemmed plant that is toxic to cattle, sheep, horses, and goats. Poisoning is most common in late fall and winter.

    • @wannabefarmer6056
      @wannabefarmer6056  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not saying your wrong by any means but I am willing to bet there would have to be a certain concentration consumed in order to be harmful enough to see an effect. My sheep aren't dead, my neighbors horses aren't dead, and my cattle guys cows aren't dead. I wouldn't bale it if the weeds are that thick. Most times a field can look terrible and after you mow you can't see the weeds. If I'm raking and I can still visually see a bunch of weeds I won't bale it. When that happens I just take the loss and focus on the fact that they needed mowed anyway. Thanks for the comment.
