The three point line was started in the NBA in Larry’s rookie year , 1979. But coaches did NOT like or encourage it, except as maybe a last-second Hail Mary shot (the “dagger 3” - which Larry was the master of.)
LARRY (and the other sharpshooters) had to *learn* the 3-pt after growing up under coaches that actually PUNISHED such shenanigans in the “Pre-3” years.
By the first year of the 3-pt contest’s inclusion in the All-Star game ( 1986) , Larry had mastered the 3-pter and was THE founding member of the 50-40-90 Club. He won the FIRST THREE contest titles, the only times he entered it at all.
Larry took a 29 win team to a 61 win team his rookie year79-80. without Mchale without ainge without Dennis Johnson without Bill Walton without perish.You should watch more Bird. I absolutely loved the NBA in that era.
Today’s “product” is Unwatchable in comparison to the Age of Giants (as 80s NBA is known).
(And I like the shorter shorts better than the silly, floppy clown shorts. My NBA guys of the 80s looked GOOD and had great legs)
