  • The complete video, from pre-show to closing the park - the Illuminations experience, from the anticipation and World music of the pre-show, the gathering crowds, to the amazing fireworks show - from the chaos of the Earth's birth to now, as we pass the torch to a new generation. The Illuminations show is present in 1080p and uses split screen to show both the Earth Globe display AND the fireworks over the lagoon. Finally, the crowds depart to the music used for the Tapestry Of Nations parade in Y2k and "closing" the park. The Illuminations show is present in 1080p, with an ocassional clip from the original documentary in upconverted SD, and uses split screen to show both the Earth Globe display AND the fireworks over the lagoon. Originally recorded over 17 visits from 2000 to 2006, this new version was shot over 5 nights in May & June 2012 in Hi-Def 1080p.

    I've come back to this video a few times over the years, and it is easily the best IllumiNations video on TH-cam. Thank you so much for doing this; what an amazing investment of time, energy and, obviously, love.

    Only just found this video, but Wow ! A brilliant job. We first saw Illum. ROE back in 2000 when the whole new millenium vib. was strong. In the last 18 years I have lost count of the number of times my good lady wife and myself have staked out our favourite spot ( outside the Italian pavilion looking towards where the Earth globe emerges ) and waited for the show to start including several thunderstorm deluges !. Your video captures the the atmosphere of the whole experience wonderfully. I thought I was the only sad old man who walked back to the exit at the end of the show with tears running down my face. Nice to know I'm in good company :-) I've had a clip from the show music ( the bit when the Earth globe first emerges) as my ring tone for over 10 years.
    Thank you so much for posting.

    Splendid video. Tops and tails the show perfectly. My visits were many from 1988 up to the Millennium and I videoed Illuminations (and the previous show) on several occasions, but never to as good as a solution as you achieved. (720p recording on a Sony and no low-light performance!). Liked your split screen to show the high-altitude fireworks. I recorded it one night from a high room in the WDW Swan Hotel and spliced in the wide shots over the previous day's soundtrack and close-ups. EPCOT forever!

      I think, from 2000 to 2008, I shot the show 22 times. After 2008, I was using HD camera and trying to get detail from the Fastpass area and from a location right in front of the Canada pavilion... a secluded corner by the fake boulders at the edge of the lagoon. That particular location had no overhead obstructions (trees, torch), was close to a speaker column, and had launch tubes just to the right above the water. From 2012 to the week of the last performance, I shot from those two locations, usually once a month, with a Canon DSLR, using a Illuminations specific LUT that I developed for the brightness of the globes video, the colors of the fireworks, and a specific shutter & aperture setting in 2K RAW.
      I was working on integrating that footage into the existing project after the show closed & Covid lockdown hit.
      But, a few weeks later someone sent me a photo of the globe, torn all apart, on the ground of the backstage area (near the Pyro dock by the China pavilion). That kinda blew my motivation away. It was, frankly, heartbreaking to see the technology that been so meaningful over the years torn to shreds.
      So, I never stayed late to see "Epcot Forever" while it was running, and I've only seen "Harmonious" via a WDW stream. I was really disappointed by "Harmonious, " feeling it lacks the thrills of "Illuminations." And, the projections just dont seem as vivid as "Illuminations" LED video.
      Ah well, I will get it it finished soon, and up.
      Thank you for watching and appreciating.

    I'm delighted that a video like this exists. I went in the summer of 2012 after not having been since childhood, so I took the time to soak in the entire Illuminations experience, including the entire preshow, from a table in France. I loved everything about it and was due to return to Epcot a few weeks ago, looking forward to recreating that experience again. Much to my dismay they changed the preshow loop back to its original version! While I still loved the experience that was missing. Your video preserves the whole experience as I had it for the first time, and for that I thank you.

      I assume you're referring to the music and announcements. Where the music is concerned, it all depends on what night you go. They have several different timed music sequences, and some nights you get the original sequence...some nights, there's new music. When Siemens became a separate entity from Sylvania, the announcements were changed from a female voice to the male narrator. And, at that time, they also re-recorded the introduction. The announcements that I use in the video are from 2002 and 2005 (the lady) and 2012 (the male). I retained the original introduction voice because I thought it seemed more magical. I am SO glad you enjoyed it. Your comment is why I made it. Thank you!

    Epcot is my favorite park. It's something in the air that makes me feel a peace and unity with the world that I normally never feel. I feel after watching that show in the park, and on your video, unified because that was the purpose of the Epcot Mil. Celebration. When IllumiNations ends next year, I will be so disappointed not to hear Tapestry of Nations/Dreams and Promise. Such a great show and an amazing video on your part!

      Dear Brad, I was at Epcot last night for the Christmas Processional, and as I "watched" Illuminations.... with my eyes and not through a camera lens.... I thought of you and your comments. It helped me see with show with fresh eyes and a renewed sense of wonder. It is for people like you that I made this video, and I am so very happy that it brought you joy. Thank you for your kind comments.

    I love the pre-illuminations loop and hearing with the visuals of the park is great. I still remember the first time I went to WDW and we went straight to Epcot on the first night, got into the park and we were sat on the concrete eating fries and waiting for Illuminations to start.

    There will never ever be Disney Magic like those torches lit around the lagoon and the atmosphere it creates obviously Illuminations and both preshow’s A & B are superior but I’m so thankful the current admin kept those torches around. They are now imo intertwined with Epcot itself. ❤

    • @cindyscott54
      @cindyscott54  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When "Harmonious" came in, I thought for sure the torches were done for. Like "Illuminations," the 19 torches eat a ton of propane - which is why they were shut off so soon after the show ended in later years. In fact, I suspected the massive quantities of propane used every night, by the Inferno barge & the torches, was a reason "Illuminations" was canceled. Propane was really expensive 4 years ago.
      BUT, the torches say "We go on, through the sadness and the tears...." And, you are right. The Lagoon at night wouldn't be 'right' without that beautiful fire light that we still gather around... to share a story; an amazing story. 😊 ❤

      When I made this, I had no idea that Illuminations would be ending. I had a "fear" that someday they'd change it, but... And now I'm so happy I invested the time it took to record the show so many times. Actually, I saw the show more often through my camera lens than actually watching it with my eyes. And now that it's gone, we have memories, the music, and video from those with the presence of mind to record it.
      I'm glad you picked mine to watch, and that you enjoyed it like I hoped when I finished it.
      However.... a new version is coming. I captured new versions of the shots that bothered me, in higher resolution with better cameras. It'll be up soon. I just have to take a deep breath & dive in. I haven't seen the show since the weekend it ended. I know it's gonna get me ;-) Thanks for your lovely comment & for watching.

I lived in FL for about 20 years and would go at least once a year, I know all the words to that ending song and every pop of the fireworks. I hope you were able to see the last Illuminations this year, to have that feeling you can only get from Epcot. I'm glad I can at least come back to this video and see it again. 💖

    The soundtrack album IS available online. Occasionally, you can find it in Mousegear at the park,or at the Disney stpre in Downtown Disney. Most of the pre-show music is available in MP3 format from Amazon. A few cuts can only be found on CD format. And yes, the exit music is long. The music they play that follows "Promise" is the original "Tapestry Of Nations" show music from the Millennium Celebration, and it runs about 24 minutes. It stands on it's own as an magnificent symphony composition.

    The first two tracks the park uses are both from the same artist, and the same album. The artist is Hevia. He is a Spanish bagpipe player. The album is entitled "No Man's Land" and that particular track is called "Busindre Reel." The 2nd track used is "Gaviotes." The album is available from Amazon on CD, and is also available as MP3 downloads. ENJOY!!

    Cindy,
    Incredible job!!! You really captured the heart and soul of what, in my opinion, is the BEST outdoor show ever. During the third act (Meaning), I was tearing up (this is the only video that has made me cry. I normally only tear up whenever I see it in person). Fantastic job. Hope to see more from you.

      +Chas Bronstein Thank you VERY much. The emotional response you felt there was my goal in salving over this project. See, I ALWAYS tear up at that part; the music combined with the images on the globe and the tempo of the fireworks.... it just gets to me. I don't even have to see it anymore...just thinking about it triggers the response. And, when it came down to putting it together, it seemed the only way to convey the entire emotional experience was to go with the split screen. So, thank you again... and yes, I'm working on an edit of the Osborne Christmas lights and am planning on updating Illuminations.

    So many emotions while watching this. It's EXACTLY what I was looking for though. Not just the show itself, but leading up to & after. The footage that you added from the parade was a very sweet surprise. I talked my parents, who have passed, into using my newly acquired DVC membership in 2000. So whenever I see footage from then, I know it's crazy, but I always look for them in the crowd. Just after 9/11 I saw it with my sister, who has also passed, and it was a very emotional experience to say the least. Luckily we enjoyed a few more Disney trips before I lost her as well, and we would always stay for the parade & Illuminations, such great times :)
    Your filming & editing was just amazing...makes you feel like you're there! Thanks so much for sharing this Cindy

    • @cindyscott54
      @cindyscott54  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your reaction was EXACTLY what I wanted to achieve when I set out to make this. As the video notes detail, I'd been working on this since 2000, and as my camera equipment, technique, and knowledge of the show improved... the older footage always became unacceptable and I was constantly reshooting. And, there was always the worry that Disney would change or discontinue the show. So, with two excellent Hi-Def camera, and multiple nights to work, I was able to put together the "experience." So, people who don't get back there often, or who have never been there.... or those who just have the same deep emotional reaction to it that I do...would always be able to enjoy it online, anytime they wanted. Thank you for watching it, enjoying it, for sharing your memories, and appreciating the love it was made with.

      The graininess of the parade footage, (I really hope they bring it back one day), I think added to the experience of the whole film. Like a glimpse into the past :)

    Thank you. I'm sure, then, you can appreciate what an obsession getting this "right" was for me. I had purchased the soundtrack long ago, and played it in the car while driving, played it at home and imagined the fireworks in my mind's eye, felt disappointed every time a show on Travel Channel would run a clip with the wrong music substituted. I call myself an "Illumin-anic."

    Actually, the studio (CD/MP3) original records are laid in under the source sound that was recorded at the time. Epcot's sound system is quite remarkable... but it is mono, and I didn't think I'd be satisfied watching this in my surround sound home theater in mono... so.... ;-)

      The music around the 35:00 mark till the ending, is called "Tapestry Of Nations" and it was the "soundtrack" music for the Millennium Celebration parade in 99-00 at Epcot. In present day, this is heard as "exit" music as the crowds move away from the World Showcase lagoon. The composer is Gavin Greenaway and it is available on the Epcot Millennium Celebration CD.
