  • Hangar 9 Carbon Cub maiden flight and fatal crash. Fpv flying and different camera angles, real cockpit view. Engine stop working in the worst moment and I try to land in the paddock but the plane hit the fence.
I already order a new one but I think it will be electric. I make some changes in the cockpit and in the instrument panel.

I flew with John, many times. We were bush pilots back in the 70's...he was always challenging himself. Once we crashed into a hanger trying to fly thru it, but he forgot to open the hangar door in the rear. He flew best while drunk,I'm guessing he was sober when he crashed. Great memories John.

I flew Aeronca Champs with Capt. John Stole in Vietnam, 1969. At 10 years old Cappy was the youngest Wing Commander in Air Force history. I was his wing man. One night during a low altitude harassment sortie over Hanoi, Cappy exited his cockpit, climbed atop the wings, and fapped one off directly at Ho Chi Minh. A braver pilot never flew. RIP Cappy.

I put that squarely on the pilot. He had his seat so far back he couldn't reach the rudder pedals, so when the engine quit he didn't have full control of his aircraft. Glue his head back on and try again.

@John Smith I just took delivery on mine TODAY! I'm going electric, too. Been flying the identical but smaller foamer version and loving it. On the sim, the 15cc gasser seems a little anemic yet the electric versions seem to pull pretty good for some decent basic aerobatics. What are your thought on gas vs electric on this bird?

I believe the late Capt. Stole relied a bit too heavily on his avionics and should have been watching out for the fence. After a thorough investigation, which will soon be an episode of "Air Disasters," the LRSB is calling this one pilot error. He shouldn't have been sitting there like a dummy.

The fence was very bad luck, if the plane would have landed in the pasture the damage would probably have been not that bad. But there was not much he could do to avoid it. It's always easy to say in hindsight that it was avoidable, but in that moment with only a few seconds to react, it's not that easy to do the right thing.

Look, the guy crashed his plane into the fence because he didn't want to have to climb it to get to the other side. You know, the guy could have seen he wasn't going to make it over. A little 20 degree bank to the right would have saved the plane. I guess he must have learned something, though apparently not at the time of the making of this video where everything is a friggin act of God. OH! Another possibility: this Clickbaiter used his remote to kill the engine and then he aimed for the fence. Great flying then you little weasel.

In 1963, as a 17 year old, I was taking flying lessons along wth a 16 year old using a 1946 Piper Cub & a 1946 Aeronca Champion at the Blairstown, N.J. airport! The 16 year old,
Steven Crawford, was able to complete the required minimum 8 hrs. training before me & was given his 'solo pilot's ' license & continued to rent the plane to accrue more hours that summer. Unfortunately, he attempted to make an unscheduled landing at a unfinished construction site & crashed, wrecking the plane & being killed! Partly because of this, the Flying
School was disbanded & I was not able to solo! I never did find out which of the two planes was wrecked! It's a dangerous but fun pastime!
