Chris Scott is so so so right about this. The suspension is the punishment that disadvantages the player for the offence. If you can still win enough votes despite missing games, you should win the award. You can also be an “unfair” player without getting suspended so the “fairest” part of these awards has always been a joke.
Perhaps even introduce a demerit system. Once you hit a certain threshold of points / marks you are then disqualified. This way a careless act doesn't rub you out automatically.
I think Harley is stiff but Darcy’s hit felt to me like a bit of a snipe which probably still would’ve been suspendable 5-10 years ago before all this head protection crap.

So if the mark of the year occurs by a player kneeing a player in the head knocking him out that okay? AFL doesn’t care about concussion they just care about people’s opinions on it, otherwise they will ban any head knocks as in no jumping or using your hands on people’s heads

Perth is the meth capital of oz after all 😂
slobbo always has the worst takes and knows nothing about footy
The irony of talking about a player that comes 3rd or 4th actually being handed a faux award. Hey Sammy?!
If you drop the fairest aspect you will ruin the award, why play fair anymore then?
So dropping fair from the name of an individual award is going to open the floodgates to unfair play? Players don't play fair because they're thinking about an award.
Ya stil get bloody suspended bro
Because you’ll keep getting suspended and you won’t get game time
Genius move to get rising star
@@davecollins1753 but they won’t lose any awards so why bother playing fair? The point is to show you have the discipline
@@davidagiel8130 having an award doesn't make players have discipline. The award isn't some kind of carrott that's encouraging players to keep in line.
Freo supporter, darcy was intention to cause harm, harleys is a tackle gone wrong. Maybe a bit of malice but he probably sidnt want to hurt him. Scrap the fairest in brownlow and rising star and this gets rid of the debate. Otherwise people will be second or third best all season and be labeled best.
Haha generous, can guarantee you Reid knew he was throwing him into the ground, he’s not brain dead
