- We often come across people who haven't been taught how their Kia vehicle works in bad weather. From the AWD system to the Climate system, and even the lighting. Do you understand the differences that your modern Kia may have compared to other vehicles that you may have driven? In this Kia Class, we go over some of the basics.
I’ve never seen videos like this before from a dealership. Really setting yourself above, wish we were closer to have a look at a Sedona from you!
Thanks for taking the time to leave a quick note! I appreciate it!
You are so knowledgeable about all of Kia’s vehicles it’s quite impressive and I hope that you are compensated and appreciated accordingly. You definitely deserve to keep moving up in their company if that’s what you choose! I’m now onto my second Kia lease, got my 2022 Seltos SX last week! The highway driving assist is incredible I’m so thankful to have all the safety features! I learn so much from this channel so thank you!
Thanks for your kind words! Enjoy your new Seltos!
Will this be good for a new driver or Subaru Crosstrek?@@BrantfordKia
Thank you for explaining the features clearly and in a straightforward manner. The best!!
@Brantford Kia Peter thanks for taking time out of your day to answer questions on TH-cam and to do the amazing Kia Classes And The Amazing Lives Thanks So Much Peter .
I didn't know all that about the AWD system in my Seltos SX. I usually press the locking transaxle button for snow driving, but now I know I don't need to. Thanks, Peter!
Yeah! That's a common misconception! I've seen salespeople not understand how that works, so how would the buyer know? What that does is it LOCKS all 4 wheels to spin at the exact same speed. That isn't good on dry pavement and isn't what you want when you turn, as some wheels will take longer paths than other wheels. The car will actually deactivate the system on its own if you turn the wheel to full lock, or near that limit. Letting the car think for itself is almost always better, but the lock button will be an option if you are stuck in the snow, or need to make sure that ALL wheels spin at the EXACT same speed and rotation. Hopefully that helps! I think I'll do a Kia class on just the AWD system soon.
@@BrantfordKia Do you know any reason why with a kia sorento 2020 sports ex AWD, in the snow when you hit the brakes driving around 18-20mph, the brakes want allow you to push all they way down, and car continues to slide forward while it feels the brake is vibrating on your foot? car pretty new with only 4000 miles on it, new tires.
Couldn't understand this if the car was just sliding in the snow or if this was another issues.
It happens on my Civic and it’s because the wheels are sliding on the ice as brakes are applied on the wheels. Not an issue.
@@dond8590 Yeah but first time it also did this in summer time no ice or water around. So seemed odd than it happen twice on the snow. Someone told me to ask about my tires as i have the sport edition and the tires may be the cause.
@@BrantfordKia This is incorrect, the vehicle uses a clutch based awd system to allow power to the rear wheels. The clutch system is a single clutch style system on the Seltos and is located just ahead of the rear differential. When its engaged it put power to the rear but its still an open differential so this system cant truly lock all 4 wheels together, rather as you say in the video it uses the brakes to transfer power around by applying the brakes to the wheel that isn't getting any traction. All that the lock button does is tell the system you want 50/50 power split rather then waiting for the system to react to the front wheels slipping.
To have all 4 wheels locked you'd need to have an off-road vehicle like a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon or Chevy Colorado ZR2 which comes with front and rear locking differentials that you have to select to lock and can only be done when in 4Lo.
I love these kia tutorials.. I've had my KIA sportage for a year and I learn something new everyday that I never knew before. I want know how to put it in snow mode now.... I Love My KIA
Thanks for watching!
From across the pond, great videos, gained a great deal of knowledge. Wife just bought a Rio (UK) so trying to learn all the tech and enjoying doing so. Oscar must be on it's way. Keep up the great work.
Awesome, thank you for watching
You are correct. On a cold day, a warm posterior, does make for a happier driver.
Rump Roasters for the win!!
Great job Peter. Always get good information from the tutorial.
Thanks for watching! We'll continue doing some version of this as long as we can!
I pulled 3 of these to a safe place on the side of the road so far in the snow with my 98 ram 1500 while in 2 wheel drive ( to prove a point) with an old factory installed limited slip. Kia and many of the other manufacturers should stop relying on these computer controlled systems only. A mild mechanical rear limited slip ( clutch style) with the computer controlled system as well would make these things alot safer and reliable. They get stuck on relatively flat ground often and they really fail on hills, when you need awd most. I have literally seen fwd vans go around these things on hills
More excellent information, thanks Peter
Amazing job Peter. Missed seeing Teddy bear next to you 😉😄😄
Thanks from Puerto Rico 👍🇵🇷
Thank you...This video helped me with deciding.
I have the 2022 EX. When I remote start in the winter, the car is never warm when I get if set to auto. In the summer I learned that when I leave the car set to low and high fans and remote start; its nice and frosty when I get it in. This winter, if I set the temp to hi and high fans, would it not work the same as the my AC in the summer when remote starting? Id expect to get into a warm car if its idling for 30min. Thanks....love your videos BTW, I chose a seltos because of your reviews!
What about remote start? Recommended? If yes, should something like AC should be left On before hand?
I have a 2020 Kia Forte, this winter will be the first with this car and I have no idea how it’s going to handle the winter, my past vehicles have had awd and didn’t have much issues in the snow. Guess if you have good winter tires, should be ok in most conditions.
thank you for awsome video pete !
lol i didnt know these features at all
totally makes sense and smart.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad that you found this helpful!
Wow thanks for much the info I was very worried about my seltos' mirror fogging up
No need to worry at all, they'll be heated!
Great video! In my 22 Seltos, when I drive through snow in the parking lot and give a bit more gas, I noticed a smell and my trans temp went up. Why do you think that is?
Note how they didn’t respond to this known issue with the dual clutch automatic transmission.
Is it okay to put the winter tires on my stock 2022 seltos sx turbo alloys or should I change it?
thank you
How do you keep you windscreen from fogging up in a Kia Sportage if you live in a high humidity area with torrential rain and is there a drive mode for driving in the wet tropics.
Great info..should the vehicle be in park when engaging the AWD or is on the fly at a low speed ok..
The AWD system is on demand, so you don't have to do anything. You can lock in the ratio's by pressing the Lock button, and that can be done at any speed, and while in drive!
DOES 2024-2025KIA CARNIVAL TRACTION OR DRIVE MODES HAVE SNOW OR SLIPPERY MODE?
Rear defrost can clear the side mirrors??
Very informative. Thank you Pet
I don't have a pet, but that's something I'm going to ask my boss for!
How do I turn on my blind spot outside mirror indicators
If it's a true diff lock it should also disable the traction control giving you more power and torque to all wheels. My guess is it just changes how the computer operates. We just got a 23 Sportage and it does okay in the snow but it's nothing close to our 06 Grand Cherokee.
I've had several Grand Cherokee's and they are very capable. The fuel mileage was aweful though - every vehicle has +'s and -'s.
My father drives a Honda CRV. It doesn't have all these features. And, it has an auxiliary outlet for plugging in an audio cassette deck.
So, suppose I want to host a trip downtown, or a parade, inspired by Chinese tradition, and my mother takes winter hazards into consideration. How would we do it?

Im sorry but I don’t understand your question here
Well done 👍 thanks
Thanks for watching!
How does it feel to drive the FWD in snow? I ordered a Seltos 2023 FWD and i am afraid that i should have gone with AWD. I live in Toronto, and always use winter tires. I have been using a ford escape se fwd before and i did not have any issues.
If you have a FWD with winter tires, you're way better then these AWD with all season tires on them. However, if equipment with AWD and winter tires then these things will out do you on snows if you ever get stuck the the AWD lock will surely get you out of the snows.
Peter, I"ve got a 2021 Stinger GT Limited AWD. Is there a way I can use the UVO to remote start and activate the seat warmers? It turns the steering wheel on but not the seats. Can I activate the heated seats and turn on the heated steering wheel with one button or action. I saw that you can do it on some Kia vehicles.
The current Stinger does not allow that. Those are great questions, but I have no secrets to share. Sorry.
@@BrantfordKia Peter, I wish I had found your dealership prior to my purchase of the 2021 Stinger. Your dedication to your customers is apparent. Thanks for the answers.
Hi do you know where is the block heater of Kia seltos 2021?
I think that's an accessory. I don't believe that it comes from the factory with that feature.
Why snow tires? Aren't the all-season with AWD good enough???
All-Season tires are very good, but Winter tires will give you MUCH better snow traction. Keep in mind AWD only helps you get moving, it doesn't do much for helping you keep traction while steering, and it does nothing for braking performance in poor conditions. If you want the best traction, and want to get the most out of all the electronics that can keep you safe in the winter weather, than winter tires will give you the best performance.
@@BrantfordKia same reason as with 2 wheel drive cars I guess. Thanks.
Okay then, new question: Have you ever been invited to a Santa Claus parade that traveled snowy roads?
Ian Laidlaw
I remember being confused at first because there's a defrost button but I guess we don't use that. Just turn on auto and don't touch anything else, I guess. They designed it in such a confusing way.
You can always override the AUTO setting, but often the auto setting does what you need it to do.
@@BrantfordKia oh wow, I cranked it up to 78 and it wasnt warming up, thought it was faulty! so Just auto or at 23? seems it will be extremely cold though
@@ronkeodunewu7178 This channel is based in Canada so they use the metric system. 23 Celsius is equal to about 73 Fahrenheit.
@@mushroomhead3 I thought I lost my marbles for a sec
Thanks
That's boring. How do you set the Sportage for drifting in the snow?!
They come with a moon roof?
Some trims do. The EX and above in Canada.
Kia Sportage
Are thosse stock wheels ?
We added winter tires on steel rims. A lot of people use steel rims here because they're less expensive than buying a second set of aluminum rims, and they pay for themselves by not having to mount and balance the tires each time you swap.
Wow, someone needs to clean the inside of that crate!!
That's what you took from this video? :)
@@BrantfordKia when you show a vehicle in a video, especially to give & demonstrate it in some way, don't you think it should be clean & presentable on the inside?
When the first thing you see is garbage on the floor and dirty floors & it immediately is the first thing someone notices when the door is opened, then there's a problem.
nice kia hat
Haha! If I say that it was given to me for free, does that have tax implications? If so, it's just something that I have to wear at work as part of my uniform! 😉
@@BrantfordKia yes part of uniform ok
You left out putting it in Snow mode
Over 45 years of winter driving for me without an accident and I never had snow tires on any of my 20+ cars and trucks, and I will never have them unless mandated. I live in northeastern Ontario where most of the roads and streets are terrible at the best of times, I drive to the road conditions, always.
That makes sense, but 45 years ago you didn't have ANY electronics that could help you. In a modern car, you're paying for those electronics, and the way to make them work the best is to give them as much traction as possible. I'm not trying to change your mind, but I think it's worth pointing out to others who may read the comments. My wife has never driven a vehicle in the winter without winter tires, and even she noticed the huge difference in modern cars vs. older cars with all of these electronic safety features.
You are dead wrong about the auto system. In cold climates, you will get MUCH faster heat by starting in manual mode, heat set to high. Climate control in these cars is awful.
That car is a mess.
