OK, so we saw Luffy and Lucci‘s awaken forms and they both have a ring of fire going around their shoulders. Thing is, Kaido’s dragon form also had that same ring of fire. We know that awaken zones are just a stronger version of what they were before. My theory is the Kaido’s devil fruit was awakened. His fruit started off just turning him into a fish, and he had to awaken his fruit to become a dragon, climbing the metaphorical waterfall. The flaw in the theory is that Momonosuke started off as a dragon, but maybe Vegapunk’s recreation of the fruit was of the current awakened version.

OK, so we saw Luffy and Lucci‘s awaken forms and they both have a ring of fire going around their shoulders. Thing is, Kaido’s dragon form also had that same ring of fire. We know that awaken zones are just a stronger version of what they were before. My theory is the Kaido’s devil fruit was awakened. His fruit started off just turning him into a fish, and he had to awaken his fruit to become a dragon, climbing the metaphorical waterfall. The flaw in the theory is that Momonosuke started off as a dragon, but maybe Vegapunk’s recreation of the fruit was of the current awakened version.
