- Xzibit dropped by the neighborhood to speak with Big Boy about working with Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Snoop Dogg. In celebration of 50 years of hip-hop, he explains the stories behind some of his most iconic songs, remembers performing for 250,000 people, and explains how he started working with Dre. Xzibit recalls hosting “Pimp My Ride”, discusses the “Up In Smoke” tour, and shares his previous stage names. Plus, he reveals that his next album (King Maker) might be his last solo project.

That restless album is one of my favorites of all time. Jammed it in high school and I’m 40 now … “I can drink a whole henny 5th some call it a problem but I call it a gift “.
I'm 29, I was too young to be listening to it then, but I was listening to it just a few minutes ago. That album's a classic.
I can relate as far as that Restless album. For me, it's Tha streets is a mutha by Kurupt,No Limit Top Dogg by Snoop,Tha Last Meal,Tha Eastsidaz both albums &The Marshall Mathers LP & D12 Devil's Night. Something about that Up in smoke tour time frame was just magic that will never be able to be duplicated. It was all around the time that the Monday Night wars we're going on in the professional wrestling world with DX & NWO & so on. Definitely golden memories.
That's one really good album. Used to listen to it all day.

Around 97-98, I met Xzibit at my moms old club, Fox Theatre in 6:06 Pomona and X n my bff freestyled off the cuff. X was an absolute gentleman. Amazing memories! ❤

I first heard Xzibit through Need For Speed Underground and Pimp My Ride, and while I was never super into hip-hop, I recently went back and started listening to the greatest artists from the era. I played every album I could find from X and he is absolutely irreplaceable; I’m glad I know him for more than just the show!

Xzibit - Paparazzi was the song that got me into hiphop
Xzibit came to my home town (Perth, Australia) in 2005 or so, and did a massive show at the nightclub I was working at then. He had brought these enormous sub-woofer stacks - they must have been 10 metres or more higher - and the bass was so, so intense, my whole body turned into a tuning fork.
I was wearing ear-plugs AND sound-cancelling headphones, but the bass went into every orifice and all the way through my body anyway.
It was so loud that I think I ended up with a concussion!
Anyway, he put on a great show, and was really good to all the fans who turned up to see the show - a great showman and a good person, too.

When rappers yell at the top of their lungs out of breath live, it sounds wack, it sounds out of tune to the music and off beat. I can't stand that shit. I love rappers who take their live sets SERIOUSLY. A lot of rappers don't take that shit serious like singers do. Singers might prepare for live shows by jogging and singing so their vocals don't sound shakey on stage, exercising for breath control etc. good shit. Xzibit is one of the best IMO.
