Thank you for this! I bought an OB-4 on sale for the cool features without realizing how to sample the loops recorded on it! Now I can sample back to my SP 404 MK2 and OP-1 for infinite options with a mike like I do with guitar amp cabinets.
Hey Shimmery, can the SM57 be plugged directly into a Teenage Engineering product using an XLR to 3.5mm cable, or does it require a preamp for sufficient gain during audio recording?
Yeah this would require a preamp of some sort to get a solid result. You might get some sound recorded without a preamp but it will probably be a very weak signal which would result in a lot of static noise as well.
Awesome video! I would have loved to hear what the raw signal sounds like so I can A/B with your microphone recordings. It sounds good, but I can't tell what it's actually "adding" to the raw signal. Is it possible you could do a video where you compare the raw signal to the microphone recordings?
It has really nice playback features. Half speed, reverse, loop etc. And a ambient mode. The only thing is it doesn’t have a audio out. That’s why i made this video 😀
Can someone tell me how good it sounds compared to say a Sonos 5 or something. I might buy one but I’m in it for the sound, portability and looks, not any of the “special functions”. Thank you very much!
This is great, thank you. I use the Shure BETA 52A for recording Bass from my Amp. I never considered placing a microphone at the OB4 however as I just like it as a radio and for line in speakers. This is interesting to see and hear, nice results too. 👏
Glad you like it! 😃🍻 the Beta 52A is great for bass so that’s perfect! In retrospect maybe I didn’t show good enough why you’d use mics on a OB-4…if you use the playback speed tricks and ambient mode etc. It might be a need to record it :) Thank you for watching ☺️
Yea a design flaw for the price charged they should have line out option to allow sample recording to a DAW. At least it’s not $1200 like their bad joke mixer TX-6. I still like the pocket operators a lot that’s their best invention for value. OP-1 is my favorite product they make though.
yeah for the price TE are asking... they should have just made a line out
As there is no line out does it have a SD card to record your sampling/looping?

My pleasure! Sounds like a very cool setup! Keep making music! :)
Thank you for the well produced and informative video. This has helped my understanding immensely. Keep up the great work!
That makes me so happy to hear! Thank you for watching! Have a great one! :)
The straight position sounds cleaner!

What’s the point of this in the studio/anywhere

It's a bit of an oversight but you can work around it :)
