    Unimpressed. Looks good, I like that they allow for compatibility with their old gear but that's where the positives end. For the money, there's far better products out there. I hope they get it together for any future products.

      Yeah it’s at a stage where just having DD doesn’t impress us as much anymore. It’s a good product and the price is decent. But I don’t know where it would sit on my recommendations list unless someone was an f1 game fan and a Ferrari nut

    Sucks to hear you had problems with setup. I came from Thrustmaster myself and still own a TX Leather. Was hoping for them to release a great grab and go DD wheel. Looks like they are trying to make a wheel that works like their older models, but DD wheels just require so much more. Hopefully they can get the software up to par and get back to greatness.

      If I was an existing TM owner, This wheelbase would make perfect sense though. No need to buy new wheels, just a few quick releases. The wheelbase is good and very good value in my view

    Hey, Laurence! In the review would you consider making a head to head comparison with the Logitech Pro Wheel? Reasons:
    1) There's always the looming hope of Thrustmaster supporting consoles in the future
    2) First foray of the two companies in the DD market
    3) the world is wide and the simracing scene is niche. You'd be surprised on how much of a "deal" the Logitech Pro Wheel can be relatively to importing a similar (in specs) Fanatec kit in some markets. This is a follow-up to the two previous points
    4) being marketed as a proper entry point for the DD market, coverage for this wheel base, Logitech's, and the Famatec DD Pro all fall into the same pitfall of "you feel every bump and detail". So there's nothing setting those experiences apart, FFB wise? 🤔
    Thanks and loved the raw impressions! Felt refreshing.

      Purely force feedback, the Logitech has a lot more power than the Thrustmaster. But it’s early days still. Thrustmaster has lots of compatible wheel rims which Logitech doesn’t

    Hey Lawrence, would you say that the Thrustmaster’s quick release is a tad but worse in terms of overall rigidity? I saw your Asetek dd review as well and that QR looked a lot more stable than this.
    I personally prefer an NRG style QR. What do you think about it?

      While driving it didn't impact me. But the flex will be interesting to monitor over time. I'm also going to have to put that screw in and try again. The Asetek QR, I haven't used the latest one so cannot comment. The Asetek QR that I had definitely had less flex than this.

    I bought that SF1000 together with a T300 and I had no issue installing it. I followed the instructions which get delivered with the steering wheel and all worked well.

    I have 5 Thrustmaster rims. I really don't want to dump them at a loss to buy into the Fanatec ecosystem to get DD particularly as some of the rims I've spent time and money customising but I can't get excited for the T818. With Fanatec now doing a DD (only 5nm but you can go to 8nm), pedals and rim for €443 shipped to Ireland I don't know where the T818 base alone at €650 shipped fits in to the market.
    I do love that its made in France and I want to support European companies and production but they need to up their rim quality in the low-mid range to compete with Fanatec & Moza with better bracing on the rims at the QR to rim junction to handle a DD's torgue. Also TM if you are going to have an RGB strip on a wheelbase for the love of god let us use it as a rev indicator and don't hide it behind the rim. Its a racing wheelbase lads. Their software for racing is also straight from 2005. Laurence just be glad you aren't using their HOTAS's (which I have and love) as their Target software looks like its from 1984. TM just ask the community to make you a new UI and watch them makes things much better in a month.

    • @LaurenceDusoswa
      @LaurenceDusoswa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At €650 I think the wheelbase alone is great value. It’s more powerful than a CSL DD and also has more detail. If you have the rims already, it’s a no brainier for me

      @@LaurenceDusoswa Simagic mini costs less and the thrustmaster steering wheels are adaptable to usb for pc.
      Simagic mini will have no flex problem, it is more powerful (13 nm in peak) than the 818, it also has real settings for vehicles and is less complicated to install.... why go back to age Stone ??
      That's the question!!
      And I think that's what you thought and shocked you into trying, because over the last few years you've been trying out up-to-date hardware....which doesn't seem to be the case for you. thrustmaster!!

      @nossy232323 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have very little flex, way less than what is shown in the video. For me the little flex I got is not coming from the quick release, but from the shaft inside the DD unit, so a new "native wheel" won't do much. And yeah, they made this stuff way too complicated.

    If a user is not already in the thrustmaster "ecosystem" - is this one even on their radar?
    I went from G923 wheel/pedals/shifter to VRS base, SRC wheel, SHH shifter and Fanatec pedals.

      Totally agree .
      In wanting to lock their customers into this ecosystem, thrustmaster has digged its own grave ... especially by remaining in the mid-range, because if you look closely at this construction, it is everything, but certainly not high-end.

    Usb controller search on your pc is what solves half the issues if the manual bootloader option doesn't work, not even going to get into manually uninstalling old firmware to install new ones...
    Took me a good long while to update my stuff the last time... It really should just be.
    1. Plug in wheel/base
    2. It auto opens the app
    3. It detects if it needs and update.
    4. It sources the update, you click update and it's done.
    It really shouldn't be any more difficult.

    Wish more reviews were way more harsh on these companies when they make expensive products and give you trash software and learned nothing from other company's. I still feel that moza simagic simicube and asitek are the top for quality and 2 of these companies actually give you straight forward software and better Qual hardware at an affordable price. I thin the quick release is a big part of a good wheel base because for the money you should beable to add and mod things for a more unlimited ecosystem such as all these companies I mentioned do wether it is thr D1 Qr the simagic and moza use and absolutely love and think it's what all sim wheel bases should use due to simplicity and how solid and abundant they are and proven over years or the proprietary way simicube and asitek work. Man I had my eye on this for a while but I can feel your disappointment in this one big time!!
    FWIW I have the same TX and "old" Ferrari open wheel you speak about. It's great that the middle dials do something now but the screen firmware is bonkers. Also, TM software on the PC is impossible to find. I know those issues you are having too. If I want to open the TM control panel I need to search "panel" which is not what you would expect.
    At over a grand, this would have been a huge leap of faith but I think for DD it might be wiser for me to not get the wheelbase and adapter for old rims. The old TX + F1 wheel I have also flexes in the same way when static but I don't think it affects me in the race tbh - that of course is non-DD so things might be different with the DD

      They wouldn’t. These are long term problems for me. Also,TM even replaced my wheelbase and acknowledged a hardware fault with the steering shaft.
      If you read the manual, it can come across as if the video is just telling people facts about the product when in reality very few people read the manual. It’s just the format of my videos. It thanks for watching.

    Hi I have just got this wheel and base. I am having problems with getting the paddles, buttons and screen to work. I guess I am missing something. I have taken off the paddles and directly connected the wheel to my PC and have updated the firmware. At the moment the direct drive base works perfectly and with my old wheel fitted all it's buttons and paddles work on the new base. I will try again to get the screen, paddles and buttons working on the new wheel. But it's frustrating. Best wishes Brian.

    • @theslybaconirl
      @theslybaconirl ปีที่แล้ว

      As a Mini owner but had not had my hands on the T818, 10Nm for me is plenty, the mini also tests IRL at around 13Nm. I run mine at 40-60% in most games, never going above 80%. However I’m not 6’4 and 200lbs, so take it how you will!

But just after watching the entire review with the SF1000 and the new wheel bases I think I’ll stick to upgrading to the Fanatec
