    Harry you have a heart of gold, we’re lucky to have you. Thank you for caring so much 💖 I’m still gutted they slimmed down the Artists Coloured pencil range by far my favourite pencil they do. My wooden box set is now my prize possession and I can’t ever buy the open stock to refill it, I feel they are changing but not for the better. I’ve been using there products since I was like 12 🤭 many many years what a shame.

      Hullo, I have had some pretty good luck filling holes in my collections of pencils by going on to e-Bay and search out the colors I use most often! I hope you have a chance to give this a try if your not able to find pencils to fill in the gaps in your sets! Good luck!🍀

    Hi Harry , firstly, I hope you feel better soon.
    I contacted Derwent re email about a week ago to say how disappointed I was that not all of the colours were available open stock. I said that I had bought the 72 set some time ago but I wouldn’t be buying the 150 set because of the lack of open stock. She said she would pass my comments on.
    I really can’t understand Derwents reasoning on this. At first I thought it was because they wanted to ensure that they had enough stock on hand to fulfill the 150 sets. I then wondered if they in fact, wanted to discourage people from buying the extra Pencils rather than the 150 set. Either way it’s very shortsighted of them. This lack of customer awareness will, I feel, not only blight their sales of the chromaflow 150 but also make people less inclined to buy Derwent products in future.. Teresa

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I fear you might be right Teresa and I say fear because the last thing in the world I want is for any company to suffer financially in this climate and possibly close up. However, no matter which way I look at this, nothing at all makes sense.
      They obviously knew from the very beginning of deciding a 150 set was going to be created, that they couldn’t supply all colours open stock, for whatever reason. So rather than do what they have done with so many of their recent sets, which is release the 100 set, build up sales and customer feedback and then 6 months later release the 150, they just release the 150 set anyway knowing that they cannot cover supply and demand.
      Don’t get me wrong, I understand that releasing different set sizes in 6 monthly increments is also frustrating for customers, but a lot less frustrating than this method.
      I know, as far as business matters pertain, I know absolutely nothing about such things. But I know a little bit about what Colored pencil artists want, and what Derwent have delivered on this occasion is not it. I personally just feel that given the fact Colored pencils artists are the very people keeping companies like Derwent, FC and Caran d’Ache alive, at the very least they owe us a little bit of honesty and transparency regarding their products.

    They should’ve done exactly what they did with the inktense pencils. They expanded the set to 100 pencils, all available open stock and available in a new 100 tin. I feel 150 pencils is just overkill. Everyone was really excited for the new inktense, it could’ve been the same for the chromaflow but they got greedy.

    Don't worry. I understood what happened. Derwent made a controversial decision about not offering all the colors open stock, for whatever reason, and were not clear or open about it. That is on them. They should have been open and honest. From the sounds of it, they were purposefully vague, probably because they knew there would be some backlash. And who knows(?) if they get enough complaints, requests, and negative feedback from their customers, they may reverse them selves. Time will tell. I don't think everyone rushed out to buy these. Some probably did, but not everyone. Thank you for keeping us informed.

Companies that perpetuate shady/underhanded practices like this will find huge public spotlights shone on them ( deservedly so). In short Derwent USED you and does NOT deserve your loyalty. It definitely gives “lying by omission” vibes. High end, artist grade products are always available open stock. It’s madness to expect customers to repurchase 150 pencils, just to replace a handful, especially in the current economic climate. I do think they’ve done it as a cost cutting exercise, but it’s going to end up shooting them in the foot.

    The way to combat these 'cheap' colored pencil sets in not by releasing yet another overpriced set of colored pencils. That's the issue i have with Derwent products. Yes, they're great, but they're just priced too much. I've got the Chromaflow 72 set and I really like it. I bought it for €48 on sale at Amazon. In all honesty, I'm not even sure they're worth €48 for the 72, definitely not worth more. After having done some drawings with them, I like them, but they're not better quality or more pigmented than the Faber-Castell Black Edition, Castle Art Colored Pencils or Arteza Expert/Pro series. That right away raises the big question... why do I have to pay Derwent €170 for the 150 set, which is over €1 per pencil, when the competition charges me half of that for the same quality?
    I like Derwent stuff, but I only buy on sale or second hand. the full price for any of their products is just too much, everything is overpriced. When I see a good deal, I snatch it, if I would have paid full price, I would have felt cheated, the product not living up to the expectation the price suggests. Even just reading the information on the box gives me a certain impression about the Chromaflow colored pencils. Derwent claims they're profecssional quality, which isn't the case at all. they're not even studio quality, student and hobby quality is the proper rating for them. Derwent raises an expectation through the price and description and then doesn't deliver.
    Hope you will feel a bit better soon and everything will be manageable again.

    Harry thank you for your unbiased video, I'd like to tell you a story - I bought the Derwent 72 Color Soft pencils from Derwent - I received 2 tins of 36 with identical pencils - I wrote to Derwent about the problem twice in about 6 weeks - to this day, I have yet to receive a reply from them. I called Amazon hoping they might help me with getting a response from Derwent, instead, Amazon sent me the correct set, told me to keep the double set and apologised for the non-response from Deerwent! I think Derwent is getting way too big for their britches!!! PS - hope you feel better soon!

    • @cowbutt6
      @cowbutt6 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you purchase from Amazon? If so, your contract is with Amazon, not the brand (i.e. Derwent, in this case). As this was a fulfillment issue caused by Amazon, getting in contact with Amazon first would have resolved the matter within days.
      If you didn't order from Amazon, why would you think they have any responsibility to resolve the matter? Count yourself lucky that they did, in spite of having no involvement in the purchase.
      That said, I bought a Derwent travel paint set from WH Smith, and found after swatching that one of the pans was a duplicate and so I was missing another. I emailed Derwent customer services and I had a replacement for the missing pan within days. It is frustrating that Derwent QA allows these mistakes to slip through, given their premium positioning within the market. Their packaging when ordering directly from Derwent also lacks care, considering the fragility and value of the products they're selling.

    I am still interested in the new set but like you, it is expensive to buy full sets. That's why I buy budget colored pencils sets to preserve these types of expensive sets for longer And while I love my 75 set of chromaflow, I do think it is helpful to know if I can't buy favorite colors open stock later. There is no way I will spend that kind of money for 150 pencils and NOT be able to replace open stock 1/3 of them. I will NOT buy that product. That is crazy money and not being able to get those 50 pencils when they are out is just crazy. I will stay with Prisma and Poly Chromos.

    ❤ thanks Harry. It's no shade to you as your review was wonderful. I bought the extra 28 from cult pens & received them in that silly 2 layered Derwent tin to have flecks of paint through the entire tin with the capped ends totally broken, I sure know which are the new colours I can assure you. For the $20 I paid for postage & the cost being as high, all up, as when I bought the 72. What was awful was trying to organise to organise those 28 into the 72 was a headache.
    Derwent have stuffed up the release of the chromoflow from the start when they released them ONLY in India & the USA in the 12 set & ppl bought them but the tried & true Derwent lovers couldn't get them. They then released the 24 which duplicated the original 12, still only in India and the USA (Possibly marketing them to the prisma fans). I took your advice & left them on my wishlist after the 72 set was released & waited 2 years for the price to fall below $233 Australian dollars. When I got them there were so many gaps in the colours I literally put them on the shelf. I began using them quite some time later & in days heard about the 150 set but the only availability to buy was the extra 28 which cost me, if you include shipping to Australia in a terrible condition but I had by then fallen in love with them as long as you use good paper as I felt the gap in shades may have been fixed through having the extra 28, which to a degree was true. Sending them in that tin was absolute lunacy however, especially on their 2 & a half week journey to Australia.
    You did nothing wrong Harry. I have said it before but you have literally saved me heaps & in this horrible economic climate I thank you as always. Much love & *Virtual hugs* from Perth Western Australia ❤❤❤

    Harry first of all praying relief from pain for you in Jesus name! Next, I want to say if anyone were to blame you ever, not just this situation but any other products I have two words for them: personal responsibility. We are all responsible for our own purchases and we are all responsible for seeking information about items we want to purchase. Me personally when I am considering a product I watch multiple reviews from various channels and I read comments from people who have purchased the product and I read descriptions of the product on Amazon or wherever I am wanting to purchase from. It is up to each of us to seek out information. Anyway you are so professional and conscientious and thorough in your reviews and we all appreciate you! Thanks for all you do and again praying relief!

    Hullo Harry, I have been down on myself when giving advice about products that were changed by manufacturers and I was not in the “loop” and I was feeling bad about my recommendations! I have only been caught out a couple of times, it still stings! I don’t believe that anyone blames YOU! I have enjoyed watching your videos and seeing your comprehensive reviews, you are truly a stand up person. Thank you for sharing your opinions and thoughts with us. I have stopped buying ALL Dan Smith paints and painting products, I had several very bad experiences with their customer service representatives. Now everyone can have a bad day, but I was treated so poorly by 4 different people! I finally learned that the reason I was given the “run around” is they were being sued! I have not heard if they have settled or even fixed the problems with their Primatek paints! Some of the gemstone paints do not even have ANY of the gems in the paints! They are ripping the customers off! Elevating the prices because they were supposed to be true gems used in the paint, but it was a serious coverup! I have not found any information about a settlement or anything about the lawsuits. I hope Derwent is not doing anything similar, just trying to keep the company in the black as they say! Thank you Harry, your a good egg and we appreciate you and all of your hard work too!

    I think they have done a disservice to themselves if they were planning to compete with Prisma with this Chromaflow 150. Knowing I wont get the extra 50 open stock stops me on my tracks to buy this set. I am in Canada , so when the extra ones to complete 100 come out here, I will buy those open stock. So truly what were they thinking!!! And really not being open with you about this issue, not good of the Derwent people.

    A couple of years ago I contacted Derwent after I bought the 24 set of Chromaflow. They explicitly told me they weren’t expanding the colours in that line. But when they came out with the 72 set I thought well that has to be the full extent of them. It irks me that they expand the sets like this. At least with the Lightfast sets they made it easy to expand without having to duplicate pencils. At this point it feels like Derwent is a bit dysfunctional. Make people fully aware of what’s happening - I almost went ahead and bought the 150 set but thought better of it. Thanks for your thoughtful reviews and all the information you bring Harry. Harry, Thank you for providing the information that you have with clarity and honesty. Sometimes companies make choices that seem counterintuitive to the public. It certainly seems so with Derwent at the moment. I am happy that I have not yet purchased the 150 chromoflow set (expensive and not available to me on Amazon here in Canada). I look forward to learning what Derwent intends longterm as it will influence my buying decision with this product. But don't feel badly about the any of the reviews and info that you provide. Thank you for your attention to the details re your recommendations. Idea-spinning, if 50 are expected to be low volume from performance of other lines, they could offer a "plus 50" set sold periodically. Trading at gatherings could become a thing. Really, most pencil colors have the potential to get used up on a substantial project. Do art supply stores have the same brand allotment issues as grocers, with paid/partnered square footage?

    Transparency, I don't expect it with the budget brands at all and I am totally a budget girl but with brand name products I expect it. I don't care that at this point they made the decision to not offer open stock but if I fell in love with a few colours I couldn't live without, well, I would go to Faber Castell or Caran D'ache to find a replacement and hey I might prefer that brand because they do offer open stock. Love Derwent and have all their pencils in the smallest packs just to try them but Transparency is the key to a truly successful company's relationship with their customers. Thank you Harry for bringing this to our attention. ❤

    Why didn't Derwent use the selling point of having an exclusive collectors set as the 150 to say thankyou to their customer base. That way people are still going to purchase it aware of the exclusive pencils in the set. It's another bad public relations move on Derwents part let's not forget about how these pencils were originally released. Derwent your starting to smell.

    Admittedly I’m late to this discussion. However what Derwent have done reminds me of dodgy sales tactics I have seen elsewhere. By not telling people about the lack of open stock they increase the sales of the 150 set. People will buy the big set on the assumption of open stock. Short sighted sales tactics that do not account for long term customers loyalty.
