I was on the station earlier in the morning taking photos. Your video helped me fill in some of the gaps in recording HST power cars that I missed noting, so many thanks.
Another classic 😎 great location there as the GWML is practically level between Paddington and Sonning Cutting (Just before Reading) - Brunel designed it that way for speed (no adverse gradients) so it's ideal to see the HST's effortlessly flying by at top speed 😊⭐️ well captured in your video 😊👍🏽
Oh aye...max speed in Wales is 90 Mph 😕 With the introduction of HST's in October 1976 on Swansea - London services...it shaved off a whole 1 hour of travelling between Swansea and London... 4 hours down to 3 😊 as class 47's max speed was 95mph..but the HST could do 125mph between Bristol Parkway and Paddington 😊⭐️ The HST was the saviour of British Rail. Not only is it an icon..but it saved our railways in the late 1970's and early 1980's because it was competitive with motorway speeds...it was marketed as the Journey Shrinker..and it was 😊 If it wasn't for the HST the Inter-City network was facing further reductions...and in Wales that was no lines west of Cardiff 😔 the HST is a true saviour of modern day train journeys and it will be a sad day to see them go to replaced by Hitatchi "Dildo trains on Wheels" class 800 and 802's 😥 my 43 year interest in railways will decrease even further with the introduction of these awful Japanese contraptions 😕
Dr Richard Beaching butchered our railways in the 1960's based on dubious statistics (check the history in this period) - but luckily for us all that the HST in the 1970's was so popular and so fast (compared to previous scheduled trains before its time) that it really did save many Inter-City lines..London to Swansea ( Threat to close it west of Cardiff) St Pancras to Sheffield, ECML King's Cross to Edinburgh was reduced by 90 mins, Cross Country introduced HST's (18 of them then) to significantly reduce XC. Journeys..the HST was a real saviour of all we enjoy today. Next time a HST flies past you, remember its achievements and significance on what you see today 😊⭐️
Nice vid as always, I would recommend you going to Tamworth as the CrossCountry mainline crosses over the WCML with Virgin, CrossCountry, London Midland and huge amounts of freight passing through the station.
I went trainspotting at swindon yesterday and I saw 43185 43002 43146 and a 59 and a 60 and a green hsts were 43198 43005 and 43187 wellsh dragon I loved it
Another wonderful film Kieran, I actually thought that the beeping at the start was Punjabi MC, LOL how stupid am I, keep up the good work and a like from me
