As a married man that has a past first love, I think this song is beautiful. I got the boy in 7th grade, October 6th 2013. We were in love for as long as I can remember. Living close enough to walk, family friends, same church, mutual friends in school. We were high school sweethearts. He went into the military and we pulled through still. Sending letters, so sweet and old fashioned. We were on and off during these times because he kept choosing alcohol, clubs, friends, video games, and so much more over me and more importantly over God. It was very heart breaking to watch. I went to college and sometimes saw him when he came back home on vacation leave. He reached out to me while I was on a missions trip in Australia. Ready to get back together, get married and move in together. I prepared to be a military wife because I knew we could get through anything. But old habits came back in and I knew I deserved better. Now I watch him with a wonderful woman who is also in the military. She's the girl that took his virginity at a party in high school. (something he lied to me about that I am finding out now) But they have a lot in common and he's happy. That's all that matters I guess. He treats her so good. Just makes me feel like the practice girlfriend. Like he had the trial run with me so that he would know what to do in "real relationship". I know I deserve better, just wish Those 7 years weren't wasted.

I had the "boy" for 20 years, marriage, raised 7 kids. Alcohol, drug and cheating problems.......eventually it all ended very badly. So much struggle and hurt. Now, at the age of 47, he's cleaning himself up and moving on to a 26yo girl......I got and was stuck with the boy and she'll get the (developing) man that I always wished he would become for me. I am so thankful he and I were able to grow up together and have so much fun! My entire childhood was with him till I turned 20! Now I've been married for 15 years with 4 kids, to an awesome man that I love dearly. He has given me more then just our marriage and our children. Hes given me trust, love and a best friend. My ex and I have run into each other a few times since. And just like before it's like we never stopped loving each other. It's always hi and bye. (Nothing more) we're better off as friends or just memories. We are totally different people now. I wish he and his beautiful wife the best and many years of happy marriage! I think you dropped the ball. I think people are supposed to marry their first love, or it wouldn't talk about first loves in the Bible. When one person drops the ball, or tries to leave prematurely, unless for adultery or formication, then they really let the other person down. Becoming one in flesh is hard to shake. I remember I saw something go into my eye and it was the spirit of flesh of my first love and it positioned itself somewhere in me. It hurts when she left or leaves and it's about twenty years later and it still hurts. I'm happy I didn't commit suicide.

It's a departure from the C-RAP (country + rap) so prevalent on "Country" radio today... Loved the song, the production and the singer. I was 11 and he was 13 when we first fell in love, i really got the boy, he truly madly loved me but when we became 19 and 21 things Turned around and a girl who have been tempting him for years and years won his heart, i was immature and insecure and didn't know how to handle things, i fell into depression for almost three years while he has beem enjoying falling in love with that girl. I was a mess until i met my now husband and my love and the father of my kids🖤, he is so mature so i started to see life differently, (also the ex married that girl). The older I get the more a song like touches my heart. Been all over the world, seen the absolute best and the worst side of people. When I was young, I couldn't hear the wisdom of a song like this, had I listened perhaps ... who knows how things would have turned out. A solid friend of mine who I had served with over many years said "Bro, if it was meant to be she would be here, at your side, right now." The Truth hurts.

We all have that past happy memories to look back and smile..
This song hits different now, thinking about it from 8 years ago when I had my first real love which also happened to be my first heartbreak. We met in summer at the lawn tennis court where we met unexpectedly, as he lived in the city. At first we were fine although were in a long distance relationship. He gave me poems and there are times that he goes back to the province to see me. One day, things got rough and it was my fault to begin with- I chose the other person instead of him. We were happy but I tried to find myself. When I realized I still love him, it was the end, he already met someone else. Through the years we broke up, we still contacted each other out of the blue, plainly because of nostalgia upon missing each other. At that time, he is still overcoming the darkness in his life with her.
Fast forward, I was happy upon seeing him the same girl was with him throughout the “dark phase” in his life. Maybe we were too young at that time to learn about love and sacrifice. I am happy the girl was with him when times I wasn’t there. Seeing their pictures make me remember what was “ours” in the past just like this song. Right now, I am happy that in the middle of reminiscing the past, I no longer feel the same pain as before. 😊
