the hero was just trying to cover up that he was dumb. dumb people are ones who would get hung up by their opponent being naked.
if it exposes traitors as well, the only people I would allow close to me see me in clothing and act kind of normal, yea they may look at boobs, but if they are staring lower, they are either an idiot or a traitor, or a traitorous idiot. I would say fairly good for a defense and finding who is worth keeping around you as someone in power.
Why not just wear clothes that change colour if your wearing it to gauge the dumbness

The Concept is a bit "weird" if you think about it. Magicians are often highly intelligent Creatures. If a Magician would create Clothes that the "dumb" cannot see, they need a reference for "smart".... and would automatically see themself as the smart reference.
For a "smart" one, everyone else is dumb, so nobody except a few would be able to see the Clothing at all^^ The invading Magician insisted that he can see the dress, so it is probably legit xD
Lets say the MAgician is IQ200 and sees everyone below IQ150 as dumb... but the human average is 100..... you see the "problem"?^^
