Terrific review, Dark DJ. It may be just your opinion, but your opinion is highly regarded here. Had I pre-ordered, and spotted all the niggles myself, I'd be disappointed to be sure. I mean, why the apparent shortcuts, oversights and miscues? Even the SSS 9f expansion pack has 3-D nameplates, though there is no builders plate on the older 9f's. What really did it for me is the wonky piston rod. The original 9f has its' gear positioned in full forward, so there's a bit more motion as the radius rod has to rock fore and aft, as well. Though the old 9f's rods and gear are mis-aligned with the cylinders. All my nit-picking stems from VW's poor animation of the Manor's valve gear. It seems way off. Hop into a Manor and see. If I'm wrong, great! Anyway, it all adds up to a "wait and see" for me. Many thanks for your test run.
It’s a shame that the 9F’s were banned from the mainlines in the UK. I don’t know the exact reason why they were banned from the mainline, but I know that the only way you can see a 9F in steam is it operating on a heritage railway. Could someone correct me if I’m wrong about this? And if I’m right, could someone explain why they were banned from the mainlines?
They are not allowed like WD 2-10-0s because their middle wheels don't have flanges so they can negotiate tighter curves. Apparently modern points mean that makes them prone to ride roughly due to the check rails may cause a derailment
He is one 9f then we are mising, is number 92021 crosti - franco boiler.
I would imagine that hinge is because the western 9fs had a firebox door hinged to the right rather than the left, and that is a texturing bug

@@georgepom328it's not the ride it's the fact that modern signaling pretty much requires the flanged wheels
It isn’t due to the flanged wheels at all, it’s because of the long wheelbase
@@threepea1151 if it was because of the wheelbase then it wouldn't have been built at all
Something about the loco being prone to derailing on modern points. Simply put, the modern railway was not designed with preserved 9fs in mind.
