    I'm going to say it in a non-math way, just to make sure I followed correctly.
    Effect X has a 30% chance to proc, whenever a lucky hit happens. The skill I am using, has a 20% chance to become a luckyy hit.
    As such, on AVG I will proc X 6% of the time... this is because only 20% of the time, will my skill produce a lucky hit and only 30% of those times will effect X ACTUALLY PROC.
    right?

      yup, you're rolling two dice, and both need to end up above a certain value to proc.

    I thought the 30% passive meant 30% of your lucky hits would create that effect. Whatever it going on with it I’ve had some abilities constantly lucky hit and others never did.

    I understand how the Skill * Effect part works. But I'm trying to find clarification on how the Lucky Hit bonuses from gear / passives work. When I have a passive skill like Precision Magic that gives +15%, and passives in my Paragon Board that give another 7%, I'm not sure which way to add those in.
    Do I go
    (.20 + .15 + .07) * (.30) = 12.6% chance
    OR
    (.20) * (.30) * (1 + .15 + .07) = 7.3% chance

    But does it mean that this is the chance for a whole cast, or is it for every time the spell does damage? And are the 15% from Precision Magic aditive or multiplying?

    There is a confusing druid boon which not only lucky hit, and have its own chance to proc, but only works on crits.

    Creating these "Academy" videos is a brilliant concept, and I intend to share your link with anyone willing to follow it. Well done on a great job!
    Question: I aimed to obtain the Ravenous Aspect by successfully navigating the Shifting City Dungeon, and luckily, I managed to complete it. However, when I access the resource tab in the Codex of Power (Y), I can see the desired Aspect. My question is, why is it not visible in my inventory or listed among the offerings of the Occultist?

    So to make sure I'm following.
    Say I'm trying to proc Avalanche(up to 10%) with blizzard(33%)
    Have elemental precision (+15%)
    And stacked up frigid fate (+15%)
    The current belief is it would be:
    0.1 * (33%+15%+15%)= 6.3% per hit?
    Which would actually be pretty good given the nature of blizzard.
    Some of them seem so abysmally low for such random stuff that it kind of makes me second guess like "that can't be right, can it?"

      Correct, although who knows if there is some crazy sacred/ ancestral modifiers that we haven't seen yet. Ofc if we get some sort of correction or new info I'll update the video.

    Fascinating! I was under the impression the bonuses from gear and such applied multiplicatively to the formula instead of adding in. Were you or someone in your community able to confirm the math one way or the other?
    I’ve been doing my math with:
    (1+ gear and passive modifiers) * skill lucky hit * effect lucky hit
    Whereas, as I understand in the video, the vid claims:
    (Gear and passive modifiers + skill lucky hit) * effect lucky hit
    For the record, I’m certainly hoping for the formula in the video

      Just because someone says they are going to double check doesn't mean they're wrong. In this case he's curious about the effect of gear/other mods on the base equation, which is more difficult to test and does not have a corresponding loading screen tooltip to confirm the math in the datamine.

      Just as a reply to my comment.
      I used invigorating strike and some lucky hit on my gear.
      Gear added to a lucky hit stat within the details pane. That stat was calculated multiplicatively to the lucky hit chances on the skill tree. Say you had a lucky hit coefficient of 20. And your gear gave you an extra 10%. The skill tree would read 22% lucky hit chance.
      The same went for lucky hit bonuses from the passive tree (all the ones I saw had a (+) next to them meaning a plus to the stat on your character details). Applying invigorating strike made the stat in your character details go up additively in your character sheet by 8%. And, again, that’s applied multiplicatively back to the whole formula.
      So putting it all together:
      If you had gear adding up to say, 12% lucky hit bonus. Then you used invigorating strike to get the 8% buff. Your character sheet reads 20% for the duration of the buff.
      A skill that has a lucky hit coefficient of 30% would now read as having 36% lucky hit in the skill tree.
      The formula is:
      (1 + gear modifiers + passive modifiers) * skill lucky hit * effect lucky hit

    Does this effect firewall enchantment ? For extra firewall, I ran with the fire build and built really well for it but I felt that wall of fire was weak and the enchantment didn’t proc often enough, full fire build with burn everything and even though it made cake of t1 I never tried t2 stuff the skill doesn’t need a buff I didn’t max it out only got it to 3 but think the enchantment could get a boost or if there are ways to boost the proc chance it would make the build way more fun I can see this being the trash tank build end game with the heals from burning and walls everywhere

      Firewall enchantment is not a lucky hit proc so no.

    question if a skill have 50 % lucky hit but its a over time skill lets say like blizzard skill that have 8 sec
    is it gonna have 50 for each second , for each hit , or for the whole 8 sec

    This is great on how to calculate Lucky hit, but you didnt go into what Lucky hit actually is? what does it mean when you get a lucky hit?

      there are a large assortment of lucky hit effects that can be proc'd by lucky hit, almost too many to list for example:
      Lucky Hit: Damaging an enemy with a Core Skill has up to a [22 - 40]% chance to extend the duration of Berserking by 1 second. Double this duration if it was a Critical Strike.

      Lucky hit by itself does actually nothing at all if you don't have a lucky hit effect granted by a passive, a legendary power or anything else. A fire bolt cast by a naked Level 2 character has 35% lucky hit chance but those lucky hits will actually do nothing.

    How does this work with multiple-shot skills like hydra or charged bolt? For instance, charged bolt's lucky hit chance is 20%...is that for each of the five shots meaning that if you hit all 5 to the same target its a guaranted lucky hit?

      Each hit should have their own chance of procing.
      If you roll five d-10 dice at once you will not always roll a 9 or a 10. Your odds will be greater but it is not an additive chance.

      @@luciot Hydra has 53% lucky hit chance... this can't be per individual fireball spit by the hydras because that would seem completely OP. If it was per individual attack effect, it should probably be like 4% in this case, considering how often and how long a Hydra attacks. So my assumption is that 53% is for the TOTAL duration of one hydra.

      I generally consult Lothrik's datamine for this by hovering over the skill in question, bone storm for example is per use, so that entire storm's damaging window i think has slices of that lucky hit chance and to get the whole # you have to hit the whole time

      you take the % from the proc and multiply it against the skill's lucky hit % so even if you had a skill that was 100% like Barb's Kick the proc itself might say something like "up to 40% chance to shoot a fireball" then only 40% of the time will the fireball go off when you kick

      @DonTheCrown so there's a chance in a chance it procs so it's a 100% chance to roll the dice for the effect essentially, but that dice you roll won't always roll the number to make the effect happen

    30% * 20%=600%, not 6%. Please elaborate. I can see why you came up with 6% but not how, at all. Should one always remove two(2) decimals running percentages in diablo4? I'm absolutely terrible at math. Thanks! Like your video.

      You're looking at it like 30 x 20 which would equal 600; however, here we are multiplying percentages which behave differently. 30% is the same as 0.3 and 20% is the same as 0.2 and 0.3 * 0.2 = 0.06. This is because we're looking for 20% percent of 30% or 1/5th of 30%. So if you divide 30% by 5 you get 6%, which is the same as doing 30% * 20%.

      Dude I guess you skipped your math classes in 5th grade. When doing maths with percentages, you will always use decimal numbers (30% = 0.3, 20% = 0.2).

    You can't get more than 100% Lucky Hit chance. I've tested it when kick was still at 100% with items that gave Lucky Hit Chance, other skills % were getting higher but not Kick. (Testing was done in the last open beta, not the slam one)

    I love this series and others like it, but I really think that if people are going to be educating others, there should be a quick little explanation of all the acronyms or gamer related words like "proc" before continuing to use them. It would keep the information flowing without stopping the video and looking up what those words mean. Other than that, awesome videos.

      Lucky hit builds are fun and great for burst thou. When the power creep inevitably happens and we start seeing new Legendaries and Sets that have a chance to summon or do crazy damage on Lucky hit, you will find it more desirable.

    lucky hit being such a poorly described nad determine thing is why almost all of the sorc builds are just useless on launch imo cause theres too many unknowins when burning enemies isnt even a CC that bosses can be immune to so that build just gets alllllllllllllllllllllllll the damage that nothing else can deal with and it doesnt care as much that it has a lot of lucky chance only some~ cheeeeeeeers

      @@MindlessTube if you look at 1:03 you'll see I circle the lucky hit chance of Upheaval, you can find each skill's Lucky Hit chance on the skill's tooltip. This system basically helps make these 'chance on hit' effects not be terrible for slow attacks.
