A reading and Book discussion with Dr. John Bryant, Professor Emeritus of English, Hofstra University. The reading will be from Bryant’s new biography, Herman Melville: A Half Known Life (Vol. 2, Wiley-Blackwell, 2020).
The reading features an episode in the growth of his "black consciousness," this is, his evolving empathy for Black peoples and the dispossessed.
