Thanks Kieron, completely agree about the history of these places - absolutely fascinating to me, and I know to you as well. Glad you enjoyed the video - I've got to say it was a real privilege to visit that fortress and learn a bit more about what happened there. I can't quite get over the fact that it was a war zone just over three decades ago!

oh my god, Matt, those steps up the top through the houses were a real labyrinth. It is good that the cable car didn't work. We got to experience the climb through your eyes (and legs). I even felt thirsty myself when you were talking about needing water. You can still see after more than 30 years how these former Yugoslavian countries were tragically affected by the war. I think I am coming around to this idea of war photography, It's fascinating, like you are staring at the paused life during the war in the past. But in real life, we wouldn't have had time to think and really look deeply but with the war photography we are able to do it now when it's left behind in the past.

I think I'll always remember how hot it was out there on the exposed mountainside - and it wasn't even summertime! I agree with your assessment of War Photography, hitting the pause button is a good way of putting it. Everyone has heard of the conflict but without war journalists nobody would ever hear the story of the people trapped inside or the smaller details. All the suffering and despair would remain untold. It's almost impossible for someone like me to imagine the devastation in the old town without seeing the photos. A picture paints a thousand words.

What a trek! But worth it for the incredible view. And don't you love a good climb over an easy cable care ride? Another impressive fort tour. Get off the road at night! Mad lad. lol.

Your comment about how the huge splash of the wave would have been great around now had me! 🤣 Interesting to see the walk up there as we totally cheated in the height of summer and took the cable car! We didn't visit the fort at the top (not sure if it was even open when we visited) but it was fascinating to see how they didn't attempt to rebuild the damaged parts, but instead just made it safe so you could see what damage was made. The photo of the main street in the old town was haunting - it's crazy to think how lively and beautiful that area is now! You mentioned the Bosnian border, if you get the chance to visit, you must. Such a stunning country and the people and the history are fascinating. Not sure how it's done over the las 10 years, but certainly a decade ago it was considerably cheaper than Croatia. Loved the time lapse at the end, was that you own or did you use stock footage?

I remember well how hot is was hiking up that mountainside, I think I underestimated the amount of water I needed! That wave would have cooled me down a treat! 🥵. Bosnia has long been on my list and I have lots of ideas for a road trip out there one day - for whatever reason though it's just not worked out so far. Looks incredible though. In terms of that clip at the end - yes that was my footage. Perched the GoPro on a statue and set it to time-lapse mode. I've never actually used any stock footage, I kinda have a rule that if I didn't film it I can't use it. I guess there's an exception to every rule but that's the aim.
