Great video! I loved the part where the guy was riding the bike through the water. Love the resiliency of the people of Puerto Rico. Such a wonderful, beautiful place, the people were so welcoming and kind. My husband and i enjoyed a trip to Luqillo PR from Oct to Dec of 2018. We made frequent trips to Fajardo. El Conquistador was still closed for repairs. Many of the traffic lights still did not work, but bonus, neither did the toll booths!
We are looking forward to returning this year from Oct to March of 2020.

Luquillo Beach is such a beautiful place. I have a picture of it in my mind - the mountains of El Yunque behind the palm trees and those clear turquoise waters beyond the golden sands. I think that Puerto Rico has every shade of blue and green that God ever made!

We took a catamaran ferry once from Fajardo to St. Thomas. Another must see if you ever go to P.R.

@@ghoulster7987 We did not. Actually we spent part of our time helping the Hands and Hearts organization help repair some roofs that had been damaged by Hurricane Maria.
Honestly speaking it was horrifying living through Hurricane Maria, the wind and it’s sounds were the worst in my life, the scariest thing was hearing my roof come apart, the next day looking at my home realizing my hard work and things were gone, thankfully I was able to rebuild though till this day I’m at 80% hopefully by this summer I’ll have the money to have it completely fixed
I went through Hurricane Marilyn on St. Thomas back in '95. The howling, screaming sound of that event was unforgettable and brings me back hearing it on this video. Took home PTSD as a souvenir. I am sorry you shared a similar experience. Good to hear you determined to rebuild and stand.

@spanish rampage He visited the island for about 4 hours and made a photo op of himself tossing paper towels to desperate American citizens, it was pitiful. I was so angry with the dismissive chauvinist attitude he bore the mayor of San Juan. Private aid from wealthy Americans helped the people get back on their feet. Trump did the bare minimum. It was the people who deserve credit for rallying and carrying on.
@spanish rampage I never blamed trump for the hurricane that hit the Island. He did not cause it obviously. I know hurricanes, they are an act of nature, and I don't know if you realize the storms up north are deadly too, I was caught in one and it broke a dam in my community. The water was freezing and I had to carry my mother on my back with our pets in carriers. From there we got into a large pickup truck. As we drove up hill to a safe zone, from there houses began to catch fire, storm surge was finally too high for firetrucks. Across the area for miles there were pockets of flooding and within the evening dry areas cut off by floods were burning, houses and entire blocks became one big conflagration. I understand hurricanes but what I don't understand is your anger toward me regarding the current us president. Please, I am not a Trump contrarian for the sake of disagreement. I just disagree with his politics. If you are Latino, I would be petrified.Case in point, the question posed by Trump as to how we an keep the Latinos out, one rally member referring to latinos at the border shouted out "shoot them" where upon Trump laughs. /watch?v=C9AXGPo1vvM
The creepy sound of the wind😖, it seems like it’s will never ends!
It's the flute effect. It's super high pressure being blown at hurricane force. It creates tiny columns of wind literally pushes that super high pitched creepy modulating sound. Psychology that would wreck people. I'm bothered by that sound and I only seen a video like this once before. But never this loud. It's dark and horror sounding :/
And i had to a sleep with it, as wicked as it sounds it becomes soothing after hours of hearing things get ripped off of houses. But thank God where I live its all good, took over 6 months for the light to come back.

The hardest part you didnt experience it. The hurricane is the easy part! The aftermath is much much worst.
It is like a bad blizzard, Whiteouts and high winds 60 mph gusts and then the snow begins to blow and fall it's an inch or more an hour and the temp goes from 30 F to 25 then 15 and lower, it gets too old to snow! All night its wind and it freezes the snow on huge trees , all night it's dark just hearing trees snapping all around. Its crazy, the towns just shut down . If you died before spring, they would wait till they could get into the cemetery, and wait a few weeks and melt the graves with big Blowtorches laid over inside a furnace.

Las personas dentro del hotel estaban dentro de una fortaleza; su vida estaban muy a salvo. También la clase media de Puerto Rico vivían en casan que parecen fortalezas. El 95% de la población no tenían esa seguridad; tuvieron que pasar horror de sobrevivencia día tras día. Miles no lo lograron.

As I write this comment I’m sleeping in one of the rooms. Staying for the whole week. It’s a crying shame how this majestic hotel hasn’t been able to fully recover ever since Maria.. it’s... “partially open”. It’s just really eerie walking around and exploring at night there’s no food court the fancy stores don’t exist anymore. Many surroundings still taped and inaccesible. It just feels deeply empty, lifeless. But the partially open facilities are well kept. Nicely maintained.

And yes the hurricane was horrible we didn't had light for a long time we past of hunger thirst couldn't hardly sleep. This wasn't a legitimate hurricane experience, this was a rich person's hurricane experience. Safe and cozy. Much different than your older content. If I were a native, I think I might be insulted. The rich people flew in for the show! How nice...
Watching this made me feel emotional. I remember being so scared when hurricane Mariah hit PR, I was so desperate for it to end. The level of destruction was like if an atomic bomb landed here. I remember thinking that things will never be the same after this and it was. We recuperated but not 100% as 1/4 of the population left the island. This hurricane went into history as the most destructive here in PR.
Do you not feel insulted at all by this? The rich guys flying in to see the show from their safe and cozy vantage point? Like it's a concert or another special activity... He turned your traumatic experience into a novelty... I don't like it. It seems super tone deaf to me.

It hit us in Vieques Sept 19 2017 an we knew when we were walking around that morning as the wind was still blowing crazy that you guys on the main island were getting beat down like us. That wind was like demons flying by. I will never forget as long as I live. It changed my life forever. God bless Puerto Rico an may we make it through this hurricane season. God my heart is heavy an i love Puerto Rico.

Hurricane María is an event that all puertoricans like me, will never forget. The most horrifying thing was the sound of the wind. Like roars, sometimes like screams or even demons! Thanks for making this video. Now I could see things that we never saw due to the comms colapse.
Hurricane Maria was the worst natural disaster in Dominica and Puerto Rico. The 2017 Atlantic Hurricane season was truly catastrophic. Harvey Irma and Maria all made Category 4 Hurricane U.S landfalls in recorded history!

@Yuki BabaYaga I live in the Houston Galveston area of Texas, so you can trust that I understand the effects of storms like this. The "Great Galveston Hurricane" of 1900 is the most deadly natural disaster on record in the continental United States.
Nicholas Barretto uhm, not only PR was affected. So was the United States Virgin Islands. I went through that hurricane on my birthday: September 20th, 2017. I feel offended whenever people just think PR was the only place affected :((
@Yuki BabaYaga I understand. We had a problem in Galveston, Texas in 1900. It is the most deadly natural disaster in the history of the United States of America. Naturally, I would prefer to see more assistance for Puerto Rico and any other place affected by natural disasters. At this time Venezuela and Mozambique also worry me. In general, I am unable to assist. Sin embargo I hope that any attention for these places helps.

This unseen footage surprises me. I remember that horrible night; the sound of the wind scared me. Thankfully, me and my family were safe. After that, the process was hard. The nights were pitch black, we made 5 to 7 hour lines to get gas for the cars and generators, and ice for the little freezers in order to maintain the food. I even took college classes when they renewed in October; some I had to use a flashlight, that was funny, but I survived. 😂🙏 Even though we had this catastrophic experience, after it, I tried to take it easy, work hard, and even reunite with people. PR keeps growing. It's joy never failed.
My college dorm at Río Piedras got shut down due to the damage. Those were exhausting days and eternal nights. I still look back at it and it makes me sob.

Hurricane Irma balsted the northern coastline and then 2 weeks later Hurricane Maria. Horrific experience, but I will never leave my Island.
Poor Palm Trees. Go figure most of them ended up looking blown one sided. So glad the island's made some progress since. There still a lot of reconstruction to be completed to date. A lot of blue tarps exist on many roofs throughout the island.
Hey buddy! Thanks for the great photos!! Brings back very fond memories of when I was 12 years old and my parents took me and my brother out of school for a week to go to PR and stay at the El Conquistador. I remember not being able to sleep for a week before we went, I was sooo out of my mind excited. And we weren't disappointed a bit! But they called those "trolleys" that ran up and down the hillside there, "Trams."' Or I guess short for tramway. I will now, I have decided, go back there and maybe this winter. (Thanks a lot, you just cost me 5k!!)Looks like they have added quite a bit more since 1972! Again, nice job!

I was living with my parents in Quebrada Vueltas Fajardo Puerto Rico and I was there at the moment hurricane Maria starting to pound the southeast of my beloved country land. Thank's for sharing
My wife & I live in Sur Caguas, the eye moved right over our heads, (house), our house faces
dead north & the front of Maria blasted us for four hours, then the back of Maria blasted the
back of the house from the south. Sheet metal roofs were everywhere the next day, my
neighbors swimming pool was full of them. Minimal damage to our exterior sheds, our block
all held together. Palm trees down everywhere, sheet metal all over streets & roads.
My dear wifes name is "MARIA", I said "how could you do this to us". WHAT A BLAST !
We were lucky, but so many others lost their homes, and personal property. God Bless P.R.

Fue el huracan más potente que he presenciado. Vivo en Puerto Rico. Viví una experiencia de aprendizaje .no solo es venir y ver un huracan pasar son los efectos que deja después. Vi hambruna ,desesperación en nuestra gente. Envejecientes muriendo . Había asistencia médica pero bien limitada. Algunos pacientes mio se tuvieron que trasladar a estados unidos. No se encontraba es un momento dado alimentos en los supermercados. Muchos colegas míos por estar trabajando no pudieron prepararse con alimentos .estaban pasando necesidades. Era un caos en las carreteras. Salir a dar servicio era una pesadilla .pero aquí estamos. Todavía recuerdo esos días y rompo a llorar. No fue fácil pasar por esa experiencia a pesar que yo había pasado por la experiencia de otros huracanes pero nunca por uno como huracan maria. Tuvimos 4 meses sin energía eléctrica. Hay personas que tuvieron más de un año sin energia elecrica . Aprendí que si luego de un evento como este , escuchas helicópteros todo el tiempo quiere decir que fue un desastre mayor.
En lo personal siempre me preparo para estos eventos. Ya que aprendi con el huracán Hugo. Gracias a Dios no pase necesidad. Pues tenía planta electrica ,agua y comida. Pero realmente no fue situación fácil. Para mi isla dejo huellas en nuestros corazones. Como el huracán que destruyó a muestra isla.

Living here on the island for the past 44 years this by far was the worst hurricane ever, the eye of Maria came up through the South East side of the island (Humacao-Yabucoa) on or about 02:00 highest winds were tracked at 147 miles per hour. Maria exited through the North West Hatillo- Arecibo side. Three thousand (3,000) deaths were associated with this phenomenon. But according to NOAA these cat4-5 storms will be observed more often in the Atlantic due to climate change and the warming of the Atlantic ocean. Thanks for the visit and the vid.
This is giving me anxiety. I was in the middle of the island when this monster hit. There was a few minutes of tranquility when the eye was passing by, but I think that was scarier because with no communication we didn't know if it was over.

I understand, I went through hurricane hugo in 1989 and lived 2 1/2 months without power.
Washed our clothes in the river, and I did non stop water deliveries to my friends in Luquillo, and we all made it through.
Now there are almost constant earthquakes in Guanica , La Parguera,and offshore.

I live in Yabucoa, exactly where the hurricane first hit land, and let me tell you, it was very scary. If you wanted the ultimate hurricane experience you should have stayed there.
Great footage, but I would’ve left out the part at the airport. No Borricua who was left there to suffer the aftermath cares to hear your concerns with a long line at the airport and excitement to get home to Atlanta “USA” (btw PR is the USA).
How I remember everything as if it were yesterday. The worst hours of my life, a few hours not to forget. 😥😔

I only have good memories of that beautiful hotel. Customer service is great. I’m still crying because It was my first hurricane and 3 years later It still hurts

Edit: It passed the 20th of September and my birthday was the 27th it wasn’t pretty.
I lived in Puerto Rico for quite some time I love it there after Maria hit it changed us. Love the island love the people here and love the food and the strength they have to rebuild and keep on going god bless Puerto Rico
Feels like yesterday when that hurricane hit us, everything seen as a apocalyptic chaos environment, cars flip, planes destroy, beaches with the water coming in the shores, and 12 hours line just to get a tank of gasoline

Good job in holding the camera steady and viewing from multiple locations. Surprised that no emergency generator had kicked in after the power was cut at the hotel.

I lived through the hurricane, in Quebradillas the west side of the island. The eye went directly through my town, so much so that our dam that supplies water to many of the western towns was at risk of collapse. In total my family was without power for 35 days and without water for 45 days and still to this day we are facing intermidiate electrical services and my town of Quebradillas right now is rationing water due to the collapse that eventually happend to out dam at the Guajataca lake.
35 days without power? That was fast i was without for 6 months
I was blessed, because the side of Quebradillas that i live on, the power lines weren’t destroyed. My aunt on the other side of the Carr #2 was 7 1/2 months without power. I live in Quebradillas San Antonio, she lives in Los Cocos. It just depended on the sector in where you lived. What town do you live in?

Omar Carrero not really. I saw concrete ceiling being blown out and concrete light poles too. In Caguas most residences were in concrete and they disappeared as if it were made of wood sticks.

Im puertorican and NOPE still not recovered, still people that doesn't have electricity even since Hurracane Irma and many building are still destroyed or in critical conditions, some beaches are still not recovered, people died and others just lost everything they haved...And many things i forgot to say, so right now we still very F*cked up

That was the 1st hotel I worked at when I moved to PR. El Con is still closed partially. They are in negotiations to sell but it's pretty much back at 100%. It's a beautiful place. I'll never forget my years there.
This is not my experience. I was turned away at the gate last weekend.
I was going to chase this storm but I was afraid that I would get stuck after the storm. And. I am glad i didn't go because would have been stuck for weeks there

No water, no electricity, no food, no gas, no internet, no cell phone service, not able to get cash, deforestation, very hot outside. Lines everywhere to get some water, gas and food.. for about 6 months.

I was born in Fajardo and I went through Hurricane Hugo too when I lived in Vieques, I was just a baby though, I was born in 1989, I also went through Hurricane Hortense too.

Guys the thing is that I live on the same area Puerto Rico this island have a very slow building team they took a lot to re build everything that the hurricane Maria broke and it was real bad at that time I lived in my grandmas house bc our house was getting build this was very sad and my grandma too and my neighbors roof broke too u atletas y I was save and my family thank you God you are a life saver and a great person🙏🙏

Yes. Everything was strong, from the wind, the floods, all the destruction. It was a horrible experience.
I was there for my honeymoon years ago. Beautiful place. Sad to see that destruction there and the horrible aftermath through the island.

He wasn't "stuck" cuz there were flights out of the island a few days later. If it took him a month it's because he chose to.stay a while.
Ufff..wish that was the worst part...but it wasn’t. This hurricane changed my life...I even lost my father. What a nightmare. Are you planning to visit the island again? Almost 2 years since the hurricane and it feels like yesterday
I stayed there at that resort, such a beautiful place . That trolly is called a funicular.
Such a beautiful view. I hope to one day see this in person although I'll avoid it during a hurricane. How anyone is either crazy enough or brave enough to sign up to stay in a place to father storm footage is crazy I think one has to be a bit touched in the head lol. I always pray those that either have to stay or choose to stay for scientific reasons, safety and living through it. Breaks my heart seeing those hurt, killed or losing homes and business to these monster storms
