    And I thought the Fiat 500 twinair engine bay was cramped. This goes to another level!

    one of the the first things I did to save my back axle was to remove it before it got beyond restoring as its a 595( 2013) and I took the axle out to sand blast it and get it powder coated and oiled where any rust catching corners are and greased....Also blast oil into chassis front ....At jacking points into inner side sills where i drilled holes and injected more oil spray and removed grommets everywhere I could find them . Important good thing to do is to remove caked mud from inner strut area as there is a silly trench that traps dirt and water which required machine wire buffing painting and new sealer to completely fill both dirt collecting trenches up at both front struts on inner guard pannels so that water or dirt will never collect there again and hench no rust problems will ever occur there again or in the future ....When the rain and muck hit that area the muck and rain won't gather as there is no collection long troff as it has a 45 degree run off after the modification . Worth doing to save headaches in future. Renew rear axle bushing mounts and tank straps as they rot...springs and shockers . The front struts and springs ...calipers front and rear ...rear shocks and brake pipes as you are on a roll.....get the German Superchips install and giggle your way to 146 +mph and a bit more....but pack spare underwear ! Fun wee scarey gasoline rocket ship! Parts for them are pricey I found but THE FUN!..... OH AND CHEEKY NICE NOTE ....

    Don't know whether you have came across this but my fuel line was touching the underside of the air filter housing...almost cut through😯. Also some of the brake servo pipes were touching giving a horrible vibration through the clutch pedal🙄. Anyhows I zip tied them in a safer way and feels much better 😉👍

    Fair play to you Neil. Having one of these cars I have tried 2 different main dealer franchises. I can say 100% they do not change the oil filter in these cars. They simply drain the oil then refill it. They also put any oil they use at the dealer not the recommended 10-50 oil. I would say that if you want to know it’s been done right, either do it yourself or visit Neil 👍 I would also think twice about buying one with “full dealer history” 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Surprising how much corrosion is already under the car. Looks a real pain to work on ( in the driveway) but as it's so new they will obviously be serviced in garages. I usually swap those clips for jubilee clips but I suppose you have lot's of them and the tool for clamping them up.

    For all their faults, I simply love the little Abarths. Would you consider them reliable and easy to own?

    • @julianbrown1331
      @julianbrown1331 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I've owned one for 12 years - its had its faults (broken pedal, brake master cylinder, three sets of top mounts, two sets of dampers, three inner cv joints, auto-disconnecting abs sensors and a noisy radiator fan. Still more reliable than my sons Audi A4 and still chucking out about 15% more power than listed (unmapped, unmodified). Once you work out how to jack them up without destroying the skirts the rest is actually pretty easy

    • @ItaliaAutos
      @ItaliaAutos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah I love them. When it comes to big jobs like a clutch it's a pain but mostly it's understanding how they come apart

    I used to own a Fiat Strada Abarth back in the day. I absolutely loved it and it certainly left me with a soft spot for Abarth. I’d really like a 500 Abarth but too many children at present - maybe when I’m an ‘empty nester’, ha! The access to the oil filter is dire, would there be any easier way through the headlight aperture?

    • @bloccoaspirale1867
      @bloccoaspirale1867 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oil filter access is actually not bad at all, it looks worse in this video than it really is.

    • @jonathanrpu
      @jonathanrpu ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you will need the 27 mil socket but if you attack a quater drive extention and a reducer to take a quter drive you can get the the long quater drive long extention through a hole in the top pannel and put the big socket with a "universal drive or wobbly bit"onto the big socket and slide the narrow 1/4 drive through the small hole in the landing pannel to connect to the large socket where filter is located. I suck out the dirty oil in filter casing with a small vacuum hose and leave it totally clean...add some oil to filter to prime it...does no harm..good practice...good luck.

  • @fatwalletboy2
    @fatwalletboy2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the oil cooler drain thru too. I dont trust mine so disconnect it. I also add a bit of new cheaper oil to the engine to push out as mush of the old stuff especially at the drain hole.

    • @ItaliaAutos

    Given the cambelt/waterpump stage is supposed to be front-off, why do all the messing around at the start? If this is how garages are doing the servicing it is no wonder the pipes get broken so often... Somehow managed to avoid any on mine over 12 years of servicing but see so many people complaining on forums
