I've never used a 530, but have to take a checkride next week in an airplane with one. This has been a great prep for my first simulator session tomorrow. Funny how valuable an 11 year old video can still be! Thanks :)
I've never had to delete the destination airport in my flight plan when I loaded an approach. Activating the approach sequences it correctly. Unnecessary steps
You prolly dont care but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream all the latest movies on instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend these days :)
Very helpful Thanks, I've always had trouble with the active legs flying a course reversal for an RNAV approach, using the OBS to suspend fixes this issue.
the suspend mode seems a little complicated and I couldn't follow when you pushed the button and when it did it automatically. Also, in a missed app., when it was time to got to the missed approach fix, like after climbing to a certain altitude I have removed the "suspend" function by pushing the OBS and if I remember correctly the 530 then plots a course directly to it.
If you were flying a long distance consisting of many waypoints/fixes can you select the entry point on the airway followed by the exit point or new airway? I know you can do this on the G1000 but is it on the 530?
Not sure if you are still active with these videos but I enjoy them. When approaching this course reversal or hold however it is published on the AP Dotted line vs. Solid line. At some point doesn't the Garmin would tell you reccomended entry type? perhaps you edited it out or maybe it doesn't on course reversal? Why did your course reverse in such a way to end up on the non protected side?
Good video - curious why you fly the hold at OXJEF manually (since the 530 will do that quite nicely by itself), unless that was just for a training exercise?
@ 11:40 "The missed approach is not displayed on the GPS" Wrong! You must be using an old version of the GPS (and/or the trainer), the missed approach procedure AND the following hold is plainly displayed on my version of the trainer (3.00). And the only caveat in the manual is that the pilot is required to hand-fly the first part of the MAP since that might not be coded into the GPS database. Once established on a segment to the MAP the GPS will fly it just fine, and also enter the hold correctly. Suggest that you update your video to reflect that (updated?) information.
Ditto @ 13:00 - no need to suspend the GPS, it flies the holding pattern at OXJEF quite nicely, and also exits and resumes the approach after one turn around the pattern.
"It doesn't matter that the 430/530 doesn't display airways"..."Cessna XXX... fly heading 240 and intercept Victor 123". Then it matters. Where is that paper chart again?

One of the best, comprehensive and easy to follow videos for GPS navigation tools I have seen.
The is EXACTLY the 530 video I was looking for. Thanks for making this!!
I have such a hard time learning ifr, ils, vor, dme, more like sol navigation! Maybe this channel will work!

th-cam.com/users/msaviationvideos They have 3 G1000 videos....
Great! Thank you for taking the time to make this video. A very nice resource.

Which procedure should I follow if I want to ILS land?
VLOC tunes into the VHF radio frequency of the ILS carrier wave for the approach (or something like that...).
Absolutely brilliant! My head is throbbing now though! Any chance of a 1st flight 'Dummies' tutorial? Maybe a short direct flight with one VOR? :-)
Manteca ECA VOR is not active anymore, better update this Vid !!!!
